The disease occurs behind the ear, also known as Er Hou Chuang (Post-auricular Carbuncle). One must distinguish between Yang Excess syndrome and Yin Deficiency syndrome; treatment will then be without error. If the lesion color is white, administer Yang He Wan (Yang Harmony Pill) decocted together with Er Chen Tang (Two-Cured Decoction) for oral intake, or take Xiao Jin Dan (Little Gold Pill) to dissipate the swelling. If the lesion color is red, take Xing Xiao Wan (Awakening Elimination Pill) to dissipate the swelling. Various medical texts do not distinguish between red and white lesions, generally treating them with herbs such as Xuan Shen (Scrophularia Root) and Niu Bang Zi (Arctium Fruit); even if the red lesions fail to resolve with this treatment, white lesions would suffer further harm. A patient surnamed Ye from Nan Hao suffered from E He (Malignant Lymph Node Swelling) under both ears. After being incised by a physician forming a fistula, the wound was as large as a cup.
