Treatment for severe constipation:
Rhei Radix et Rhizoma (Dahuang), Zingiberis Rhizoma (Ganjiang), Crotonis Fructus (Badou) (equal parts).
Grind the above ingredients into a fine powder, mix with honey to form pills the size of pea seeds. Take one pill per dose, washed down with rice water; for frail individuals, take one pill the size of a mung bean. The dosage should be adjusted until bowel movement is unobstructed.
Treatment for severe fecal impaction:
Cinnabar (Zhusha) (those from Chenzhou are particularly good), Crotonis Fructus (Badou) (seven seeds), Hydrargyrum (Shuiyin) (the size of a soap bar).
Boil the above three ingredients together in water overnight. Remove the Crotonis Fructus and Hydrargyrum. Grind the Cinnabar finely, mix with honey to form an ointment. Apply this ointment to the heart region for immediate effect.
Treatment for constipation:
Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex (Houpo), Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium (Jupi) (each 3 liang), Armeniacae Semen Amarum (Xingren) (5 liang).
Grind the above ingredients into a fine powder, mix with refined honey to form pills the size of Sophora japonica seeds. Take 50-70 pills per dose at any time, washed down with rice water.
Treatment for constipation:
Phaseoli Semen Rubrum (Chixiaodou) (soaked until sprouting, then dried in the sun, 6 liang), Angelicae Sinensis Radix (Danggui) (3 liang).
Grind the above ingredients into a fine powder. Mix with warm fermented grain water (Jiangshui) and take 2 qian per dose at any time.
If only clear blood is discharged, it is often due to the stagnation of Qi from worry and thought invading the blood, or anger injuring the Liver causing rebellious Qi to ascend, leading to blood溢 (overflow) and dispersion, or excessive alcohol consumption causing heat to enter the Yin aspect.
Equiseti Herba (Muzei) (1 liang), Pappi Sparganii (Puhuang) (2 liang).
Grind the above ingredients uniformly. Take 2 qian per dose, mixed with rice water, at any time.
Vulpis Os (Yehu Gu), Artemisiae Argyi Folium (Aiyè) (amount as needed).
Burn the above ingredients to produce smoke and fumigate the anus. Stop when a sensation of pain is felt.
Treatment for constipation due to Qi deficiency with cold:
Jinye Dan (Golden Liquid Pill), Banshu Wan (Half Sulfur Pill) (equal parts).
Process both ingredients meticulously. Take 50-70 pills per dose on an empty stomach, washed down with rice water.
Treatment for various types of constipation, especially suitable for those with Hong Kong Foot (Tropical Swelling/Podagra) and constipation:
Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium (Jupi) (4 liang), Armeniacae Semen Amarum (Xingren) (1 liang 2 qian 5 fen, cooked).
Grind the above ingredients into a fine powder, mix with refined honey to form pills the size of mung beans. Take 50-70 pills per dose with plain boiled water at any time.
Treatment for dryness and obstruction of the Large Intestine:
Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex (Houpo) (peeled, mixed with Ginger Juice to form a paste, baked dry, then ground into fine powder), Porcine Pancreas (Zhu Yi) (equal parts to the powder).
Mix the Porcine Pancreas with the powder to form a paste, then shape into pills the size of Sophora japonica seeds. Take 30 pills per dose, washed down with Ginger Water; drinking the soup is also acceptable.
Discussion states: The Large Intestine is the palace of transmission, responsible for transformation and excretion. It alone receives the turbidity of all Yang aspects. Sometimes it becomes constipated without smooth passage, or completely obstructed. If the patient experiences abdominal distension, pain, stifling sensation, Qi blockage, and chest fullness/stuffiness.
If there is merely slight difficulty in defecation without other discomforts, this is caused by Wind attacking the Lung Meridian and transmitting to the Large Intestine. The intestines receive Wind, causing fluids to become dry and scarce. Palpating the pulse reveals floating and choppy qualities, termed Wind Constipation (Feng Mi). It is appropriate to use Pi Yue Ma Ren Wan (Splein-Restricting Hemp Seed Pill). It is suitable to take.
