The above ten herbs are used in equal proportions. If the condition matches the symptoms, double the dosage. Mix with white honey to form pills. Take one pill before meals, sized like a small bean, three times daily. To promote purging of pathogenic factors, take three pills. Total: 750 pills.

White Pill (Bai Wanzi)
Treats Water Qi (Shui Qi) disease.
Ingredients: *Borneolum Syntheticum* (Longnao), *Calomelas* (Fenshuang) (1 fen each); *Hydrargyri Subchloridum* (Qingfen) (0.5 liang or more, ground together evenly, mixed with one spoonful of white flour to form a ball, roasted over slow fire until yellow, then ground into powder); *Calcitrum* (Qishi) (1 fen).
Preparation and Administration: Grind ingredients finely. Mix with well-cooked glutinous rice to form pills the size of pea seeds. Take ten pills per dose with ginger decoction,不限 time, three times daily. After five days, if blood oozes from the gum crevices and foul saliva is expelled, it indicates efficacy.

Jiaomu Decoction (Jiaomu Jian)
Treats massive abdominal edema, blocked Qi respiration, inability to lie flat for sleep, panting, and急促 breathing.
Ingredients: *Zanthoxyli Semen* (Jiaomu), *Phillyreae Semen* (Huangqianni), *Cinnamomi Ramulus* (Gui) (0.5 fen each); *Laminaria Thallus* (Kunbu), *Sargassum Thallus* (Haizao), *Leonuri Herba* (Tiantingli) (3 fen each); *Bovis Calculus* (Niuhuang), *Ginseng Radix* (Renshen) (1 fen each).

Qianjin Yi Zeqi Tang (Thousand Gold Wing Zeqi Decoction)
Indicated for massive whole-body edema, weakness in limbs, or arising from Xiao Ke (Wasting-Thirst), Huang Dan (Jaundice), Zhi Yin (Fluid Retention in Hypochondrium), internal deficiency, unharmonied Ying and Wei, stagnant Blood and Qi, audible wheezing, abdominal distension, swollen eyes unable to see.
Ingredients: *Phytolaccae Radix* (Zeqigen) (10 liang); *Phaseoli Semen Rubrum* (Chixiaodou) (2 sheng); *Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma* (Gancao) (2 liang); *Cyprinus Carpio* (Li Yu) (one head, approx. 5 jin, guts removed); *Ophiopogonis Radix* (Mendong); *Poria* (Fuling); *Ginseng Radix* (Renshen).
Preparation and Administration: Cut the eight ingredients. Add 1.7 dou of water. First decoct the carp and red beans until reduced by 7 sheng, discard residue. Add remaining herbs, decoct to obtain 4.5 sheng. Strain. Take 3 he per dose, three times daily. For weak patients, take 2 he.

Jiedai San (Unbind Belt Powder)
Treats edema with abdominal distension like a drum, upper body panting, stabbing pain in chest and back, and dysuria.
Ingredients: *Laminaria Thallus* (Haidai), *Sargassum Thallus* (Haizao), *Laminaria Thallus* (Kunbu), *Alpiniae Oxyphyllae Fructus* (Yizhi), *Aucklandoniae Radix* (Muxiang), *Polyporus Umbellatus* (Leiwuan), *Brassicae Sativae Semen* (Luobozij), *Gleditsiae Sinensis Spina* (Zaohuang).
Preparation and Administration: Grind into fine powder. Take 2 qian per dose, decoct with one cup of wine. After taking, frequent bowel movements are required,不限 time.

Discussion
*Bing Yuan* states: The Kidney governs Water; Spleen and Stomach govern Earth. Earth controls Water. Spleen and Stomach are exterior-interior pairs; the Stomach is the sea of Grain and Fluids. Now, Stomach Qi is deficient and cannot transform Water Qi, causing it to remain in the skin, leading to swelling. Pulse is deep and slow, indicating Yin syndrome. Skin swelling, malignant Qi lingers for months, accumulating day by day, blocking blood collaterals, causing joint pain. Deep-slow pulse externally shows pus (intestinal abscess type).

*Qianjin* discusses: Generally, Water diseases are difficult to cure. Post-recovery requires strict dietary caution. Patients often crave improper foods, making recovery difficult. Physicians follow hundred vessels, waiting long to treat Gu (parasitic disease - later).

Contraindications: Mourning, childbirth, music, sexual activity, noisy play. All meat/fish, raw/cold, sour/slippery, salt/garlic, sticky rice/beans, and greasy foods must be avoided. Mental exertion should also be avoided. Other contraindications are noted elsewhere.

Edema above the waist should be treated with sweating to resolve. Discussion: This disease often arises from chronic panting not resolving, or from Xiao Ke, Jaundice, post-illness neglect, postpartum state, Hong Kong Foot (podagra/edema), chronic Pi Jia (masses), prolonged purging, or difficulty drinking water/dysuria transforming into this disease.

Haizao Wan (Seaweed Pill)
For treating various Water diseases, do not take abruptly to purge all water at once, otherwise subsequent relapse will cause exhaustion. Benefit by one-third, immediately stop salt, soy sauce, and sour/bland foods. After ten days, when patient's Qi stabilizes, benefit again. Do this three times, medicating and nourishing until balanced. Originally, Spleen Heat conquers Kidney, called Earth conquering Water. When Spleen Earth is diseased, it attacks Kidney Water below, Water Qi does not gather, thus disease forms. Fan Wang said: Spleen and Stomach are exterior-interior; Stomach is Granary House. Stomach deficiency fails to transform Grain/Fluids, Qi Sea collaterals close, thus patient has no bowel/bladder movement, Cold Qi fans Spleen causing distension. White Pill (Bai Wanzi)

Tianxiong Wan (Tianxiong Pill)
If skin is hard and tight, abdomen large, whole body swollen, skin thick pressing leaves indentation that doesn't rise, abdominal color unchanged, bowel/bladder normal, this is Heat lodging in skin, Cold causes Qi gathering without moving, blocking collaterals in skin, called Fu Zhang (Skin Distension). Treat by draining Qi and dispersing Cold.
Ingredients: *Aconiti Kusnezoffii Radix* (Tianxiong) (0.5 liang); *Kansui Radix* (Gansui) (1 fen); *Phillyreae Semen* (Hei Qianniu) (soaked in wine overnight, roasted hot, remove wine, stir-fry dry, pound with 1 fen flour), *Immature Bitter Orange* (Zhishi) (bran-roasted, remove core).
Preparation and Administration: Grind into fine powder. Boil wheat paste in wine to form paulownia seed-sized pills. Take with ginger soup after meals, 3-5 pills per dose.

Jiyan Congdou Tang (Verified Scallion Bean Decoction)
Treats deficiency Heat and Stone-taking Heat, exposure to wind/rain while sleeping, cold/damp injury hunger, Heat blocked inside transforming into Hot Wind Water disease. Heart/abdominal swelling/fullness, panting unable to descend, difficult defecation, limb swelling like skin bag holding water, shaking like old silkworm color,阴卵 hard swelling like sheng, calf swelling sores smelling like dead rat. These are all deficiency damaging Kidney taking Wind-Cold Warm Bi. Internally follow formulas taking water-draining medicines. Externally wash limbs with this decoction, apply Congdou Paste. Discussion:
Swelling disease: Skin tense, swollen full without wrinkles, fingers sink in. If under-eye slightly swollen like sleeping silkworm, and calves/swollen, dysuria, panting, pulse large and rapid. This is Spleen/Kidney deficiency. Kidney deficiency Water cannot store, Water Qi overflows; Spleen/Stomach deficiency cannot control Water, Water Qi flows into collaterals. Collateral Water disease causes swelling/fullness, called Zheng Shui (Correct Water). Suitable for Zhengyang Dan, Liuzhu Dan (see Abdominal Distension section). Pulse deep thin weak, loose stool, all treat constipation too.

Zhengyang Dan

Fangji Tang
Treats abdominal fullness, pressing sinks finger, rebounds instantly. Rest same as Zheng Shui, but four limbs tremble slightly, pulse floating. This is Lung Qi long-term deficiency, Wind Evil Qi cannot transport, hundred vessels closed, Water Qi rises, called Pi Shui (Skin Water).
