[Ping An]: This chapter, from the beginning to the end, is found in Volume 18, Chapter 63 "Liao Ci Lun" (Treatise on Liao Needling) of *Su Wen* (Basic Questions), and also in Volume 5, Chapter 3 of *Jia Yi Jing* (The Classic of A-B points).
Huang Di asked Qi Bo: I have heard of Liao Ci (Mistaken/Counter Needling), but do not yet understand its meaning. What is Liao Ci? Qi Bo replied: When pathogenic factors invade the body, they first lodge in the skin and hair (mao pi). If they remain and are not expelled, they enter the Sun vessels (smaller branches of collaterals). If they remain and are not expelled, they enter the Luo vessels (collaterals). If they remain and are not expelled, they enter the Jing vessels (main meridians), internally connecting with the Five Zang organs and dispersing into the stomach and intestines. This causes an imbalance and excess of Yin and Yang, leading to injury of the Five Zang organs. This is the sequence by which pathogens enter from the skin and hair and reach their extreme at the Five Zang organs. (This refers to both Yin and Yang pathogens becoming excessive, entering from the skin and hair up to the Five Zang organs, hence taking the Five Zang organs as the final destination. Ping An: The *Jia Yi Jing* lacks the nine characters "liu er bu qu ru she yu sun mai". In *Su Wen* and *Jia Yi Jing*, "Yin Yang geng sheng" is written as "Yin Yang ju gan".) In such cases, one should treat the Jing vessels. Now, if pathogens lodge in the skin and hair, enter the Sun collaterals, remain and are not expelled, causing blockage and obstruction, preventing entry into the Jing vessels, but instead overflowing into the Da Luo vessels (large collaterals), thereby generating strange diseases. (Ping An: The New Correction in *Su Wen* states: Quan Qiyuan said: The Da Luo vessels are the fifteen Luo vessels.) When pathogens lodge in the Da Luo vessels, they flow from left to right and from right to left, interfering with the Jing vessels above and below, and distributing to the four extremities. Their qi has no fixed location and does not enter the Shu points of the Jing vessels; this is called Liao Ci. (As described above, reaching the Jing vessels allows treatment of the meridian's Shu points. If pathogens lodge in the skin and Sun collaterals, overflow into the Da Luo vessels, and generate strange diseases, flowing left and right, interfering with the Jing vessels, and distributing to the four extremities, with their qi residing in no fixed location and not entering the Jing vessels, Liao Ci can be used. Ping An: "Shu" in *Su Wen* and *Jia Yi Jing* is written as "Yu". "Ming yue" in *Jia Yi Jing* is written as "Ming yue". "Zhu sheng qi bing", the character "Sheng" in Yuan edition is written as "Zhu".) Huang Di said: I wish to hear about Liao Ci, why take the left for the right and the right for the left? How should it be done? And how does it differ from Ju Ci (Giant Needling)? (This asks about the difference between Liao Ci and Ju Ci. Ping An: *Jia Yi Jing* lacks the two sentences "Yuan wen Miao ci, wei zhi nai he". *Su Wen* lacks the two characters "wei zhi".) Qi Bo said: When pathogens lodge in the Jing vessels, excess on the left causes disease on the right, and excess on the right causes disease on the left. (This first speaks of Ju Ci. When pathogenic qi strikes the Jing vessels, if there is excess of pathogenic qi on the left, one should needle the excess in the Jing vessel on the right. Because one needles the large Jing vessels on the left and right, it is called Ju Ci. Ju means large.) Diseases may also shift easily; if the disease on the left has not yet ceased but the pulse on the right becomes diseased first, in such cases, one must use Ju Ci, ensuring the needle strikes the Jing vessel itself, not the Luo vessels. (If the disease on the left has occurred, and the disease on the right follows, it is named a subsequent disease. Now, while the disease on the left has not ceased, the disease on the right arises, so it is said to be "first diseased," named "Yi Yi" (easy to shift); in such categories, Ju Ci can be used. Ping An: "Bing yi you yi yi zhe" in *Su Wen* is written as "Yi you yi yi zhe", with a note saying *Jia Yi Jing* writes "Bing yi qie yi". The current version of *Jia Yi Jing* writes "Yi you yi qie yi zhe". "Zuo bing wei yi" in *Su Wen* and *Jia Yi Jing* is written as "Zuo tong wei yi". "Bi zhong qi zhong jing" in *Su Wen* and *Jia Yi Jing* is written as "Bi zhong qi jing".) Therefore, when Luo vessels are diseased, the pain is located differently from the Jing vessels, hence it is called Liao Ci. (Pain lesions are in the large Luo vessels on the left and right, differing from the Jing-Luo, hence named Miu. Miu means different. Ping An: *Jia Yi Jing* note says: Ju Ci needles the Jing, Liao Ci needles the Luo.) Huang Di said: I wish to know how Liao Ci is performed? How are the points selected? (Above, requesting further elaboration on Liao Ci. Ping An: Note "Yi shang" is likely a scribal error for "Yi xia".) Qi Bo said: When pathogens lodge in the Luo vessel of Foot Shaoyin (Kidney Meridian), it causes sudden heart pain, acute distension, and fullness/supporting sensation in the chest and hypochondrium. (The direct channel of Foot Shaoyin goes from the Kidney up into the Lung. A branch emerges from the Liver, connects with the Heart, and pours into the Chest, hence sudden heart pain. Going up from the Kidney, hence acute distension. Pouring into the Chest, hence supporting fullness in the chest and hypochondrium. Because the Da Luo of Foot Shaoyin, Datong, runs alongside the meridian upwards, thus where the Shaoyin meridian runs, the Luo vessel becomes diseased. Ping An: In *Jia Yi Jing*, "Zhi" is written as "Fan".) If there is no accumulation, needle the point anterior to Ran Gu (Rangu) to bleed, and it will resolve after about the time it takes to eat a meal. Take the left for the right, and the right for the left. Newly onset diseases will resolve within five days. (Ju is a Yang disease. Ji is a Yin disease. For the disease that has arisen, before accumulation occurs, needle the anterior aspect of Ran Gu to bleed. Ran Gu is the large bone under the medial malleolus; needle the Luo vessel anterior to this large bone. Ping An: "Chu qi xue" in *Su Wen* and *Jia Yi Jing* lacks the character "Qi". *Su Wen* has "Bu yi" before "Zuo qu you", and "Qu" before "Wu ri". "Bing xin fa" in Yuan edition is written as "Xin bing fa".) When pathogens lodge in the Luo vessel of Hand Shaoyang (Sanjiao Meridian), it causes throat obstruction (Hou Bi), tongue curling, dry mouth, vexatious heat in the heart, pain along the medial aspect of the arm, and inability to raise the hand above the head. Needle the points on the nails of the little finger and the second finger, internal side, distance from the corner like the width of a leek leaf, one point each. Robust individuals will recover immediately; elderly individuals will recover after a short while. Take the left for the right, and the right for the left. This applies to new diseases lasting a few days. (The Luo vessel of Waiguan of Hand Shaoyang winds around the medial aspect of the arm from Waiguan, pours into the chest, and merges with the Pericardium meridian. Qi from the chest steams upward, hence throat obstruction, tongue curling, dry mouth, vexatious heat, arm pain, and inability to raise the hand. Elderly people have declining Qi and Blood, hence recovery after a short while. Ping An: Hand Shaoyang in *Jia Yi Jing* is written as Hand Shaoyin, note says: "One version is Yang." Fan xin in *Su Wen* and *Jia Yi Jing* is written as Xin fan. Xiao zhi in *Su Wen* and *Jia Yi Jing* is written as Shou Zhong zhi. Wang Bing's note in *Su Wen* says: "Refers to Guanchong point, the Jing-Well of Shaoyang." New Correction says: "Guanchong point is at the tip of the little finger's secondary digit; now saying middle finger is an error." Note Waiguan: Yuan edition mistakenly writes Wai kai. *Jia Yi Jing*: Waiguan, Luo of Hand Shaoyang, in the depression two cun posterior to the wrist, diverges to connect with the Heart.) When pathogens lodge in the Luo vessel of Foot Jueyin (Liver Meridian), it causes sudden hernia and acute pain. Needle the points where the nail meets the flesh on the big toe, one point each. Men will recover immediately; women will recover after a short while. Take the left for the right, and the right for the left. (The Luo vessel of Ligou of Foot Jueyin, its branch follows the tibia upwards to the nose and knots at the penis, hence sudden hernia and acute pain. Hernia pain is a Yin disease. Women's Yin Qi cannot overcome Yang Qi, hence recovery after a short while. Ping An: Note Ligou: Checking Foot Jueyin, there is no Ji Gou. *Jia Yi Jing* says: "Ligou, Luo of Foot Jueyin, five cun above the medial malleolus, diverges to Shaoyang." Ji Gou is likely a scribal error for Ligou. Also, note "Xun jing shang bi": Wang Bing's note in *Su Wen* writes "Xun jing shang gao"; Bi is likely a scribal error for Gao. Also, note "Gu bing": Yuan edition mistakenly writes "Gu tong".) When pathogens lodge in the Luo vessel of Foot Taiyang (Bladder Meridian), it causes pain in the head and neck, and shoulder pain. Needle the points where the nail meets the flesh on the little toe, one point each. It will resolve immediately. If not, needle three cun below the lateral malleolus. Take the left for the right, and the right for the left. The Luo vessel of Zhizheng of Foot Taiyang, its branch ascends to the elbow and connects with the shoulder, hence head and neck pain. The place where the nail meets the flesh on the little toe is where this Luo vessel originates. Below the lateral malleolus is also where this Luo vessel runs. Ping An: Below "You qu zuo" in *Su Wen* and *Jia Yi Jing* are the four characters "Ru shi qing yi".) When pathogens lodge in the Luo vessel of Hand Yangming (Large Intestine Meridian), it causes Qi fullness in the chest, panting, supporting discomfort in the chest, and heat in the chest. Needle the points on the nails of the index finger and the second finger, distance from the corner like the width of a leek leaf, one point each. Take the left for the right, and the right for the left. It will resolve after about the time it takes to eat a meal. (The Luo vessel of Pianli of Hand Yangming, its branch goes up the arm, hangs down the shoulder, and curves to the cheek. It does not say it reaches the chest, but mentions chest pain because the Zheng (Regular) channel of Hand Yangming diverges from the chest and breast, goes up into the collarbone area, descends to the Large Intestine, and belongs to the Lung, hence chest fullness, panting, supporting discomfort, and chest heat. Inferring from this, both Zheng and Bie channels are considered Luo. Ping An: Note Zhu gu: *Jia Yi Jing* writes Ju gu, in the depression between the two bones at the upper end of the shoulder, meeting of Hand Yangming Qiao Mai.) When pathogens lodge between the arm and palm, causing inability to flex, needle behind the ankle. First press with fingers until pain is felt, then needle. Use the waxing and waning of the moon to determine the number of needles. On the first day of the waxing moon, one needle; on the second day, two needles; on the sixteenth day, fourteen needles. (Anterior to the wrist is the palm, posterior is the arm. Posterior to the lateral malleolus of the hand is where the Hand Yangming meridian runs; visible pulses here are Hand Yangming Luo. Inability to flex arm and palm indicates taking this Luo. Ping An: After "Er ri er zhen" in *Su Wen* and *Jia Yi Jing* are the fifteen characters "Shi wu ri shi wu".) When pathogens lodge in the Yang Qiao vessel, it causes eye pain starting from the inner canthus. Needle two points at Shenmai (below half a cun of the lateral malleolus). Left needle right, right needle left. It will resolve after walking for the time it takes to cover ten li. (Yang Qiao ascends from the foot to the inner canthus of the eye, hence eye pain; needle the Luo generated from the pulse below the lateral malleolus. Ping An: Note "Zhong mai" is likely a scribal error for Shenmai. Wang Bing's note in *Su Wen*: "Refers to Shenmai point, origin of Yang Qiao." *Jia Yi Jing*: Shenmai, origin of Yang Qiao, in the depression below the lateral malleolus. Other versions also write Zhong.) When a person falls or is injured, evil blood remains inside, causing abdominal fullness and distension, and inability to urinate or defecate. First drink purgative medicines. This is injury to the Yinmeridian of the upper part and the Luo vessel of Shaoyin of the lower part. Needle below the medial malleolus, bleed the blood vessels anterior to Ran Gu. Needle the arterial pulse on the dorsum of the foot. If not resolved, needle one point on the pubic hair of the big toe. Seeing blood will resolve it immediately. Left needle right, right needle left. (For fall injuries with evil blood in the abdomen causing inability to pass stool and urine, one can drink blood-breaking decoctions to promote evacuation. If not healed, needle below the medial malleolus, anterior to the large bone, the Luo of Foot Shaoyin, and also take the Luo of Foot Jueyin at the pubic hair. Ping An: "E xue zai nei" in *Su Wen* is written as "E xue liu nei", *Jia Yi Jing* as "E xue liu yu nei". "Xue mai chu xue": New Correction in *Su Wen* suspects "Mai" is a scribal error for "Luo". "Ci zu fu shang": *Jia Yi Jing* lacks "Zu". "Zuo ci you, you ci zuo": *Jia Yi Jing* writes "Qu" instead of "Ci".) Those who are prone to sadness, fright, and unhappiness, needle as described above. (The Jueyin meridian enters the eyes, hence injury to Jueyin leads to deficiency causing sadness and unhappiness. Zhi governs fright and fear, hence injury to Shaoyin meridian causes surprise and fright. Use the previous method, needle three locations. Ping An: "Shan bei shan jing" in *Su Wen* is written as "Shan bei jing", *Jia Yi Jing* as "Shan jing shan bei".) When pathogens lodge in the Luo vessel of Hand Yangming, it causes deafness and intermittent hearing loss. Needle the points on the nails of the index finger and the second finger, distance from the corner like the width of a leek leaf, one point each. Hearing will return immediately. If not, needle the point where the nail meets the flesh on the middle finger. Hearing will return immediately. If hearing loss is not intermittent, do not needle. (The Luo vessel of Pianli of Hand Yangming, its branch enters the ear and meets the Zong Mai, hence pathogens lodging cause deafness. Intermittent hearing loss implies the disease is established and incurable. Ping An: "Shi bu wen" in *Su Wen* and *Jia Yi Jing* has the character "Yin" after "Wen". "Ci zhong zhi zhua jia shang": Wang Bing's note in *Su Wen* suspects it is the nail of the little finger; New Correction considers Wang's view incorrect, detailed in *Su Wen* notes.) For wind generation in the ears, needle in the same manner, left needle right, right needle left. (When one feels wind coming out of the ear, it is pathogens lodging in the Hand Yangming Luo, hence the method is the same. Ping An: "Sheng feng": Yuan edition mistakenly writes "Chu feng". "Zuo ci you, you ci zuo": *Jia Yi Jing* writes "Qu" instead of "Ci".) For Bi syndrome moving back and forth without fixed location, located between the muscle divisions, needle where it hurts. Use the waxing and waning of the moon to determine the number of needles. (There is Bi syndrome moving in the muscle divisions of the Hand Yangming Luo, causing painful Bi. From the first day to the fifteenth day of the moon is waxing. From the sixteenth day to the thirtieth day is waning. Ping An: Before "Bi" in *Su Wen* and *Jia Yi Jing* is the character "Fan". "Wang lai xing": *Jia Yi Jing* writes "Xing wang lai".) Acupuncturists should adjust the number of needles according to the flourishing and declining state of Qi. Needling beyond the lunar number will deplete Qi; needling less than the lunar number will not drain the pathogen. Left needle right, right needle left. Stop when the disease resolves. If not resolved, repeat needling according to the method. (The number of needles follows the Qi state: increase if flourishing, decrease if declining. Exceeding the number will immediately deplete Qi; not increasing the number will not drain pathogens. Increasing or decreasing without cure requires needling as before. Ping An: "Yue shu" in *Su Wen* and *Jia Yi Jing* is written as "Ri shu". "Bing yi zhi bu yi": *Jia Yi Jing* writes "Bing ru gu" three characters.) On the first day of the waxing moon, one needle; on the second day, two needles; on the fifteenth day, fifteen needles; on the sixteenth day, fourteen needles. (The moon generates Qi and Blood gradually increasing, hence the number of needles increases to the fifteenth day. After the sixteenth day, the moon declines, human Qi gradually weakens, hence the number decreases from fourteen to the end of the month, named Moon Death. Ping An: In *Su Wen*, after "Er zhen" are the three characters "Jian duo zhi"; after "Shi si zhen" are the three characters "Jian shao zhi".) When pathogens lodge in the Luo vessel of Foot Yangming (Stomach Meridian), it causes nasal congestion, epistaxis, and coldness in the lower teeth. Needle the point where the nail meets the flesh on the middle finger, one point each. Left needle right, right needle left. (The Luo vessel of Fenglong of Foot Yangming, its branch ascends to connect with the neck, merges with Qi of various meridians, and descends to connect with the throat, hence from nasal congestion entering the lower teeth, thus pathogens lodging cause nasal congestion, epistaxis, and cold lower teeth. Hand Yangming meridian enters the lower teeth; Foot Yangming meridian enters the upper teeth, not the lower teeth. Now mentioning cold teeth is because Foot Yangming Luo enters the lower teeth. Also, seeking the site of Luo disease, if not where the large Luo runs, it is where the branches and small Luo of the large Luo develop disease. Ping An: In *Su Wen*, "Luo" is written as "Jing", "Xia chi" as "Shang chi", "Zhong zhi" as "Zhong zhi ci zhi". Wang Bing's note says Zhong zhi is likely a scribal error for Da zhi. *Jia Yi Jing* note says: "*Su Wen* note says: needle Da zhi ci zhi." New Correction says: "According to *Jia Yi Jing*, needle Zhong zhi zhua jia shang, without 'ci zhi' two characters, implying Da zhi ci zhi is Zhong zhi, consistent with Wang's note." Ping An: Liao Ci needles diseases of the Luo, hence the earlier text says: When Luo vessels are diseased, pain differs from Jing vessels, hence named Liao Ci. Wang treated Foot Yangming Luo as Jing, hence Shang chi as Xia chi, and Zhong zhi as error for Da zhi ci zhi, suggesting needling Li Dui, directly treating Luo disease as Jing disease, which is less accurate than Yang's note.) When pathogens lodge in the Luo vessel of Foot Shaoyang (Gallbladder Meridian), it causes hypochondriac pain, coughing, and sweating. Needle the points where the nail meets the flesh on the little toe and the second toe, one point each. Difficulty breathing will resolve immediately; sweating will stop immediately. For coughing, wear warm clothes and eat warm food; it will resolve in one day. Left needle right, right needle left. Disease will resolve immediately. If not, repeat needling according to the method. (Also, the Luo vessel of Guangming of Foot Shaoyang, five cun from the ankle, diverges to Jueyin, descends to connect with the dorsum of the foot, not reaching the hypochondrium. The Zheng-Bie of Foot Shaoyang enters the interval of the costal margin, follows the interior of the chest, belongs to the Gallbladder, disperses to the Liver, pierces the Heart, ascends to flank the throat, hence hypochondriac pain. Piercing the Heart and Lung, hence coughing. Piercing the Heart, hence sweating. Needling the Luo where pathogens lodge at the junction of nail and flesh for difficulty breathing is also a Lung disease. Lung dislikes cold, hence after bleeding, one must wear warm clothes and eat warm food. Ping An: After "Xie tong" in *Su Wen* and *Jia Yi Jing* are the three characters "Bu de xi". *Jia Yi Jing* lacks "Ci zhi" two characters.) When pathogens lodge in the Luo vessel of Foot Shaoyin, it causes sore throat and inability to swallow food, spontaneous anger, and Qi rushing upward to Ben (Diaphragm). Needle the central pulse of the sole of the foot, three times each, totaling six needles. It will resolve immediately. Left needle right, right needle left. (The Luo vessel of Datong of Foot Shaoyin, its branch runs alongside the meridian upwards to the Pericardium, hence sore throat and inability to eat. The regular Shaoyin meridian, straight branch, ascends through the Liver and Diaphragm. Since the Luo runs alongside the meridian upwards, hence spontaneous anger and Qi rushing to Ben. Ben is the Diaphragm. Yongquan point in the center of the sole is the Shaoyin pulse. Ping An: "Yan" in *Su Wen* is written as "Ai". Ben: Wang Bing's note in *Su Wen* says Qi rushes; New Correction cites *Nan Jing* saying Stomach is Ben Men. Yang Xuancao says: Ben is Diaphragm, consistent with this note, Wang Bing's note is incorrect. Note Zu xia: Yuan edition mistakenly writes Zu shang.) When pathogens lodge in the Luo vessel of Foot Taiyin (Spleen Meridian), it causes lower back pain radiating to the lower abdomen and controlling the testicles. (The Luo vessel of Gong Sun of Foot Taiyin, its branch enters and connects with the stomach and intestines. The Foot Taiyin Bie ascends to the thigh, merges with Yangming, travels together with the Bie, ascends to connect with the throat, and penetrates the tongue center. Thus, the central pulse of the tongue is the Foot Taiyin Bie pulse. This Luo, having been said to ascend to the thigh, penetrates the waist, enters the lower abdomen, passes the testicles, hence lower back pain radiating to the lower abdomen and controlling the testicles. Ping An: *Su Wen* has twenty-nine characters from "Ai zhong zhong" to "Zuo ci you You ci zuo" above this section. In this book, it is after "Xie ke yu shou zu shao yin tai yin". Wang Bing considered it a misplaced bamboo slip and moved it to this section.) Inability to breathe lying on the back. Needle the gap of the sacrum, above the two Shen muscles. Use the waxing and waning of the moon to determine the number of needles. Release the needle and it will resolve immediately. Left needle right, right needle left. (Above the two Shen muscles at the sacral gap is the lumbar needling point of this Luo. Shen, pronounced Zhen. Ping An: "Yang xi": Yuan edition mistakenly writes "Zuo xi". "Yi yue shang": *Su Wen* and *Jia Yi Jing* have the three characters "Shi Yao Shu". New Correction says: Quan Qiyuan's old version lacked these three characters.) When pathogens lodge in the Luo vessel of Foot Taiyang, it causes spasms and stiffness of the back, pulling the hypochondrium and causing pain, internally pulling the heart and causing pain. (The Luo vessel of Feiyang of Foot Taiyang, seven cun from the ankle, diverges to Shaoyang, not reaching the waist. The Zheng-Bie of Foot Taiyang enters the buttocks, one path descends five cun to the sacrum, diverges into the anus, belongs to the Bladder, disperses to the Kidney, from the Du muscle enters the heart, disperses. The straight branch ascends from the Du muscle to the nape, re-belonging to Taiyang, hence pathogens lodging cause spasms, back stiffness, pulling hypochondrium and heart pain. Ping An: "Nei yin xin er tong" in *Su Wen* lacks these five characters. New Correction says Quan Qiyuan's version and *Jia Yi Jing* both have these five characters; thus this book matches the complete version.) Start needling from the nape. Count the vertebrae, clamp the back, press firmly. Where it hurts upon touch, needle beside it. Three needles will resolve it immediately. (There are twenty-one vertebrae. Clasp the spine with both hands and press on the vertebrae; the painful spot is the Foot Taiyang Luo. Beside its Shu points, needle three needles each. Ping An: "Ying shou er tong ci zhi" in *Su Wen* writes "Ru tong" instead of "Er tong"; *Jia Yi Jing* writes "Ci ru" instead of "Ci zhi".) When pathogens lodge in the Luo vessel of Foot Shaoyang, it causes lingering pain in the pivot (hip joint) and inability to lift the thigh. Needle the pivot with a Hao needle (fine needle). If cold, retain the needle for a long time. Use the waxing and waning of the moon to determine the number of needles. It will resolve immediately. (Also, the Luo vessel of Guangming of Foot Shaoyang, five cun from the ankle, diverges to Shaoyin, not reaching the pivot. The Zheng-Bie of Foot Shaoyang wraps around the thigh, enters the pubic region, merges with Jueyin. Its branch enters the costal margin, hence lingering pain in the hip pivot and inability to lift the thigh. Liu means lingering/staying long. Hao needle is like a hair, like the beak of an insect. Still and slow insertion, slight nourishment, long retention, to treat painful Bi. Ping An: "Bu ju" in *Su Wen* is written as "Bu ke ju", *Jia Yi Jing* as "Bu de qi". "Wei shu": *Su Wen* lacks the character "Shu".") To treat all meridians, if needling the areas they traverse does not relieve pain, use Liao Ci. (Needling the areas traversed by the twelve Jing meridians where there is no pain indicates the disease is in the Luo, hence Liao Ci. Ping An: *Jia Yi Jing* lacks the character "Zhi" before "Zhu jing". "Bu tong" in *Su Wen* and *Jia Yi Jing* is written as "Bu bing".) For deafness, needle Hand Yangming. If not resolved, needle the point where the connecting meridian emerges anterior to the ear. (Ju Ci Hand Yangming and Shang Yang etc. points. If not resolved, Ju Ci Hand Taiyang exiting to Tinghui point near the ear. Ping An: *Jia Yi Jing* writes "Guo mai" instead of "Tong mai".) For toothache, needle Hand Yangming. If not resolved, needle the meridian entering the teeth. It will resolve immediately.
