Jueyin (Liver/Gallbladder) governs the upper heaven, with Shaoyang (Sanjiao/Pericardium) as the controlling fire. If the Shaojue (Lesser Wood) phase is involved, the Qingre (Clearing Heat) victory and revenge are identical to Zhengjue (Correct Wood). Ding Si (Year of the Wood Snake) and Ding Hai (Year of the Water Pig) are Tianfu (Heavenly Alignment) years; their movement manifests as Wind and Clearing Heat alternating in victory and revenge.
Sequence: Shaojue (Initial-Primary), Tai Zheng (Great Fire), Shao Gong (Lesser Earth), Tai Shang (Great Metal), Shao Yu (Lesser Water - End).
Jueyin governs the upper heaven, with Shaozheng (Lesser Fire) as the movement. If Shaoyang acts as the cold rain victory or revenge, they are identical. Gui Si (Year of the Wood Snake) and Gui Hai (Year of the Water Pig) are Tong Suihui (Same Year Assembly) years; their movement manifests as Heat and Cold Rain alternating in victory and revenge.
Sequence: Shaozheng, Tai Gong (Great Earth), Shao Shang (Lesser Metal), Tai Yu (Great Water - End), Tai Jue (Great Wood - Initial).
Jueyin governs the upper heaven, with Shaogong (Lesser Earth) as the movement. If Shaoyang acts as the wind and clear victory or revenge, it is identical to Zhengjue. Ji Si (Year of the Earth Snake) and Ji Hai (Year of the Earth Pig); their movement manifests as Rain, Wind, and Clearness alternating.
Sequence: Shaogong, Tai Shang, Shao Yu (End), Shao Jue (Initial), Tai Zheng.
Jueyin governs the upper heaven, with Shaoshang (Lesser Metal) as the movement. If Shaoyang acts as the heat and cold victory or revenge, it is identical to Zhengjue. Yi Si (Year of the Wood Snake) and Yi Hai (Year of the Water Pig); their movement manifests as Coolness, Heat, and Cold alternating.
Sequence: Shaoshang, Tai Yu (End), Tai Jue (Initial), Shaozheng, Tai Gong.
Jueyin governs the upper heaven, with Shaoyu (Lesser Water) as the movement. If Shaoyang acts as the rain and wind victory or revenge, they are identical. Xin Si (Year of the Metal Snake) and Xin Hai (Year of the Metal Pig); their movement manifests as Cold, Rain, and Wind alternating.
Sequence: Shaoyu (End), Shao Jue (Initial), Tai Zheng, Shaogong, Tai Shang.
In all these cases where Jueyin governs the upper heaven, the Qi transformation operates later than the heavenly timing. Those identical to the Correct Year operate with the Heavenly timing. The Heavenly Qi disturbs, while the Earthly Qi remains correct. Wind generates from high and far, and intense heat follows. Clouds tend toward the Rain Mansion, and Humidity transformation proceeds. Wind and Fire share the same virtue, corresponding above to Suixing (Jupiter) and Yingshuo (Mars). Their administration is turbulent, their commands swift. The grains correspond to Cang (Green/Wood) and Dan (Red/Fire). Among the intermediate grains, those associated with "Tai" (Excess) suffer depletion in Wen Jue (Wood) and Pin Yu (Water) categories.
Wind, Dryness, and Fire/Heat alternate in victory and revenge. Hibernating insects appear, flowing water does not freeze. Heat diseases occur in the lower body, Wind diseases in the upper body, and the forms of Wind/Dryness victory/revenge manifest in the middle.
During the First Qi, Cold begins to肃杀 (solemnly kill/restrict), and the Killing Qi arrives. People suffer from Cold on the right lower side.
During the Second Qi, Cold does not depart; flowers, snow, and ice coexist. The Killing Qi implements its transformation, frost descends, and name grass scorches at the top. Cold rain frequently arrives, Yang Qi recovers and transforms. People suffer from Heat in the middle.
During the Third Qi, Heavenly Administration spreads, and Wind rises on time. People suffer from tearing, tinnitus, tremors, and dizziness.
During the Fourth Qi, Muggy Summer Heat and Damp-Heat clash and contend in the left upper region. People suffer from Jaundice and swelling.
During the Fifth Qi, Dryness and Dampness alternate in superiority. Deep Yin spreads, Cold Qi reaches the body, and Wind and Rain proceed.
During the Final Qi, Wei Huo (Fearful Fire/Sanjiao Ministerial Fire) commands. Yang Qi greatly transforms. Hibernating insects appear, flowing water does not freeze. Earth Qi erupts, grass grows, people feel comfortable, but they suffer from Warm Epidemics.
One must definitely break the stagnant Qi, nourish its source of transformation, assist its luck, and prevent evil from prevailing.
For the year, it is suitable to use Pungent (Xin) to regulate the upper, and Salty (Xian) to regulate the lower. Regarding the Qi of Fearful Fire, do not rashly offend it. When using Warm, stay far from Warm times; when using Hot, stay far from Hot times; when using Cool, stay far from Cool times; when using Cold, stay far from Cold times. Diet should follow the same method. If there are anomalies contrary to nature, this is the principle; violating this leads to disease.
The Emperor said: Excellent. Your words are indeed comprehensive, but how can we clarify their correspondence?
Qibo said: How clear your question is! The Six Qi have a sequence and a position. Therefore, usually on the first day of the first month at dawn, we observe them. Seeing their position allows us to know where they reside. If Movement is surplus, it arrives early; if Movement is deficient, it arrives late. This is the Way of Heaven, the constant of Qi. If Movement is neither surplus nor deficient, it is called the Correct Year, and its arrival coincides with its proper time.
The Emperor said: Victory and Revenge Qi exist constantly. When disasters strike, what are the omens?
Qibo said: What is not Qi transformation is called Disaster.
The Emperor said: What is the beginning and end of the numbers of Heaven and Earth?
Qibo said: How detailed your question is! This clarifies the Dao. The number starts from above and ends below. Before the midpoint of the year, Heavenly Qi governs; after the midpoint, Earthly Qi governs. Up and down interact, and Qi Intersection governs. The yearly cycle is complete.
Thus it is said: If positions are clear, the Qi of months can be known. This is what is meant by Qi.
The Emperor said: I manage affairs and act according to them, yet they do not match the numbers. Why?
Qibo said: The application of Qi has more or less; transformation and treatment have prosperity and decline. Prosperity, decline, more, and less all align with their transformation.
The Emperor said: I wish to hear about Same Transformation.
Qibo said: Wind and Warmth are the same as Spring transformation; Heat, Mist, Darkness, and Fire are the same as Summer transformation; Victory and Revenge are the same; Dryness, Clarity, Smoke, and Dew are the same as Autumn transformation; Clouds, Rain, Darkness, and Dust are the same as Late Summer transformation; Cold, Frost, Snow, and Ice are the same as Winter transformation. These are the transformations of Heaven and Earth's Five Movements and Six Qi, the constant of alternating prosperity and decline.
The Emperor said: When Five Movements are the same as Heavenly Transformation, it is called Tianfu (Heavenly Alignment). I know this. I wish to hear about Same Earthly Transformation.
Qibo said: There are three years where Excess is the same as Heavenly Transformation, and three years where Deficiency is the same as Heavenly Transformation. There are three years where Excess is the same as Earthly Transformation, and three years where Deficiency is the same as Earthly Transformation. These are twenty-four years in total.
The Emperor said: I wish to hear what you mean.
Qibo said: In Jia Chen and Jia Xu years, Tai Gong (Great Earth) Movement adds Taiyin (Great Yin) below. In Ren Yin and Ren Shen years, Tai Jue (Great Wood) Movement adds Jueyin (Jueyin) below. In Geng Zi and Geng Wu years, Tai Shang (Great Metal) Movement adds Yangming (Yang Brightness) below. Such cases are three.
In Gui Si and Gui Hai years, Shao Zheng (Lesser Fire) Movement adds Shaoyang (Lesser Yang) below. In Xin Chou and Xin Wei years, Shao Yu (Lesser Water) Movement adds Taiyang (Greater Yang) below. In Gui Mao and Gui You years, Shao Zheng (Lesser Fire) Movement adds Shaoyin (Lesser Yin) below. Such cases are three.
In Wu Zi and Wu Wu years, Tai Zheng (Great Fire) Movement sits upon Shaoyin (Lesser Yin) above. In Wu Yin and Wu Shen years, Tai Zheng (Great Fire) Movement sits upon Shaoyang (Lesser Yang) above. In Bing Chen and Bing Xu years, Tai Yu (Great Water) Movement sits upon Taiyang (Greater Yang) above. Such cases are three.
In Ding Si and Ding Hai years, Shao Jue (Lesser Wood) Movement sits upon Jueyin (Jueyin) above. In Yi Mao and Yi You years, Shao Shang (Lesser Metal) Movement sits upon Yangming (Yang Brightness) above. In Ji Chou and Ji Wei years, Shao Gong (Lesser Earth) Movement sits upon Taiyin (Great Yin) above. Such cases are three.
Except for these twenty-four years, there is no addition or sitting.
The Emperor said: What is meant by "Addition"?
Qibo said: Excess added is Tong Tianfu (Same Heavenly Alignment); Deficiency added is Tong Suihui (Same Year Assembly).
The Emperor said: What is meant by "Sitting"?
Qibo said: Both Excess and Deficiency are called Tianfu. However, the variation in execution varies in amount, the form of disease varies in severity, and life and death vary in early or late timing.
The Emperor said: You mentioned "Use Cold, stay far from Cold; Use Hot, stay far from Hot." I do not understand why. I wish to hear what "Stay Far" means.
Qibo said: Do not offend Heat with Heat; do not offend Cold with Cold. Following harmony brings balance; opposing brings disease. One must not fail to revere and stay away from them. This refers to the Six Positions of Seasonal Qi.
The Emperor said: What about Warm and Cool?
Qibo said: If the governing Qi is Hot, do not use Hot without caution; if Governing Qi is Cold, do not use Cold without caution; if Governing Qi is Cool, do not use Cool without caution; if Governing Qi is Warm, do not use Warm without caution. If Intermittent Qi is the same as its Host, do not offend; if different from its Host, offend slightly. This is called the Four Feared Ones. One must carefully examine them.
The Emperor said: Excellent. What happens to those who offend?
Qibo said: If Heavenly Qi is contrary to the season, one may follow the season. If one overcomes the Host, one may offend. Take balance as the limit, and do not exceed it. This is called Evil Qi overcoming reversely. Thus it is said: Do not lose Heavenly Trust, do not oppose Qi Suitability, do not assist Victory, do not sponsor Revenge. This is Supreme Governance.
The Emperor said: Excellent. Do the Five Moving Qi that govern the year have constant numbers?
Qibo said: Please allow me to list them.

All these periodic cycles, victory/revenge, and correct transformations have constant numbers and must not be ignored. He who knows the essence concludes in one word; he who does not know the essence scatters infinitely. This is what is meant.
The Emperor said: Excellent. Do the Five Moving Qi also have revenge like the years?
Qibo said: When stagnation reaches its extreme, it erupts, waiting for the time to act.
The Emperor said: Please explain what you mean.
Qibo said: The Qi of the Five Constants, whether excessive or deficient, erupts differently.
The Emperor said: I wish to hear it completely.
Qibo said: Excessive is sudden/violent; deficient is slow/gentle. Sudden eruption causes severe disease; slow eruption causes persistent disease.
The Emperor said: What are the numbers for excessive and deficient?
Qibo said: Excessive uses Completion Numbers (Cheng); Deficient uses Generation Numbers (Sheng). Earth always uses Generation Numbers.
The Emperor said: How does the eruption occur?
Qibo said: When Earth Stagnation erupts, rocks and valleys shake with shock. Thunder booms in the Qi intersection. Dust dims yellow-black, transforming into white gas. Drifting storms rise high and deep, striking stones and flying in the void. Floodwaters follow, rivers overflow, and fields/pastures resemble earth horses (metaphor for dry/cracked earth or dust). Transformation Qi spreads, acting as timely rain. Things begin to grow and develop. Thus, people suffer from heart/abdominal distension, borborygmus, and frequent diarrhea. Severely, heart pain, hypochondriac fullness, vomiting, cholera, fluid retention with pouring diarrhea, edema, and heavy body.
Clouds rush to the Rain Mansion, rosy clouds embrace the morning sun, mountains and marshes dim. This is the eruption, occurring in the Fourth Qi. Clouds cross Tianshan, floating beings arise and perish; this is the omen before eruption.
When Metal Stagnation erupts, the sky is clean and earth bright. Wind is clear and air cutting. Great coolness rises. Grass and trees float in smoke. Dryness Qi moves. Fog/mist rises frequently. Killing Qi arrives. Grass and trees become pale and dry. Metal makes sound. Thus, people suffer from cough and reverse Qi, heart/hypochondriac fullness pulling to the lower abdomen, sudden pain, inability to turn sides, dry throat, dusty face, and bad complexion. Mountains and marshes scorch and dry. Soil congeals like salt brine. This is the eruption, occurring in the Fifth Qi. Night dew falls white. Forests sound desolate. This is the omen before eruption.
When Water Stagnation erupts, Yang Qi retreats. Yin Qi erupts violently. Great Cold arrives. Rivers and marshes freeze strictly. Cold condenses into frost and snow. Severely, yellow-black darkness obscures. It flows through the Qi intersection, becoming frost-killing. Water shows auspicious signs. Thus, people suffer from Cold invading the heart causing pain, waist pain, large joint stiffness, difficulty bending/stretching, frequent cold limbs, abdominal fullness/stiffness. Sunlight fails. Empty accumulation of sinking Yin. White dust dims vision. This is the eruption, occurring before and after the Second and Fire periods. The great void is deep and dark. Qi resembles scattered hemp. Seen faintly and hidden. Color black slightly yellow. This is the omen before eruption.
When Wood Stagnation erupts, the great void is dusty and dim. Clouds and objects are disturbed. Great Wind arrives. Roofs fly off, trees break. Wood undergoes change. Thus, people suffer from epigastric pain centering on the heart, radiating to both hypochondria, blockage of diaphragm/throat, inability to eat/drink. Severely, tinnitus, vertigo, blindness/confusion, sudden stiff collapse. The great void is grey-dusty, mountain and sky one color. Or turbid air, yellow-black depression. Horizontal clouds do not produce rain. This is the eruption, its Qi is irregular. Long rivers bend grass. Soft leaves show shade. Pines sing on high mountains. Tigers roar in rock peaks. This is the omen before eruption.
When Fire Stagnation erupts, the great void swells and obscures. The Great Light does not shine. Blazing Fire moves. Great Heat arrives. Mountains and marshes burn. Timber flows with sap. Large mansions emit smoke. Soil floats with salt brine. Still water decreases. Vining grass turns yellow. Wind blows confusing words. Humidity transformation lags. Thus, people suffer from shortness of breath, sores/carbuncles/swelling. Hypochondrium/abdomen/chest/back, face/head/four limbs. Fullness/distension. Ulcers/vomiting/reverse Qi. Convulsions/bone pain. Joints move. Pouring diarrhea/warm malaria. Sudden abdominal pain. Blood overflow/fluid flow. Essence/fluids decrease. Red eyes/heart heat. Severely, mental confusion/regret, sudden death. At the end of the period, great warmth. Sweat moistens the pores (Xu Fu). This is the eruption, occurring in the Fourth Qi. Movement returns to stillness. Yang extreme reverses to Yin. Humidity command transforms and forms. Flowers bloom, water freezes. Mountains/rivers ice/snow. Flame/Yang noon marsh. This is the omen before eruption. There is Fu...
