Treats conditions caused by deficiency of the intestines and stomach, where Qi stagnates outside the blind membrane (a layer of connective tissue in the abdomen) and flows into the hypochondriac region. This leads to rebellious Qi and difficulty breathing. The condition recurs frequently over years and is often beyond the cure of ordinary physicians. If prolonged, Ying and Wei (Nutritive and Defensive Qi) stagnate and coagulate; once they deteriorate and become turbid, they ulcerate into abscesses and pus, often leading to untreatable death.
Hu Jiao (Pepper, *Piperis Fructus*) (150 grains) Mu Xiang (Aucklandiae Radix) (1 fen) Quan Xie (Scorpio, *Scorpius*) (10 pieces, detoxified)
Grind the above ingredients into powder. Form pills with millet drink, sized like mung beans. Take 15 pills per dose, administered with Tangerine Peel Decoction (*Chen Pi Tang*).
Treats Xi Ji (Accumulation of Qi), where Qi is fixed below the abdomen and hypochondrium, causing unilateral abdominal distension and fullness, without affecting appetite or digestion, and resistant to various medications. It also treats Heart-Spleen pain, vomiting of sour fluid, Xiao Chang Qi (Small Intestine Qi disorder/hernia in men), and Pi Xue Qi (Spleen Blood Qi disorder in women).
Suo Sha Ren (Amomi Fructus Rotundus) Gui Xin (Cinnamomi Cortex) Mu Xiang (Aucklandiae Radix) (each 1 fen) Gan Cao (Licorice Root, roasted) Hui Xiang (Foeniculi Fructus, stir-fried) Ding Xiang (Caryophylli Flos) Qing Pi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium Viride, stir-fried) Chen Pi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium) Sheng Gan Jiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens) Zhu Ru (Bambusae Caulis in Taenia, processed) Hu Jiao (Pepper, *Piperis Fructus*) Chen Xiang (Aquilariae Lignum Resinatum) (each 1 qian 1 zi)
Grind the above ingredients into powder. Take 2 qian per dose, mixed with Ginger, Perilla, and Salt decoction; for women, mix with Vinegar decoction.
Press the base joint of the ring finger with both thumbs while forming a fist. Sit in Bi Fu posture (cross-legged), click teeth 36 times, hold breath for 21 breaths, and swallow Qi three times. Repeat holding breath and swallowing twice more, totaling three cycles. The effect is achieved when Qi circulation is unobstructed. Practice during Zi, Wu, Mao, and You hours. However, there are many massage and Dao Yin (guiding and pulling) methods; one may practice them at will, without being restricted to this specific method.
Wu Lao (Five Exhaustions) result from excessive mental and physical exertion that injures the Five Zang organs, causing the Five Spirits to become unsettled and diseased. Thus, it is called Wu Lao. Excessive planning and deliberation injure the Liver, causing Liver Lao; intricate mental operations injure the Heart, causing Heart Lao; excessive thinking about external matters injures the Spleen, causing Spleen Lao; worrying about future events injures the Lungs, causing Lung Lao; rigid adherence to moral principles injures the Kidneys, causing Kidney Lao. These injuries occur because individuals do not assess their innate constitution and act excessively inappropriately when dealing with affairs. Since Zang Qi inherently has Deficiency and Excess patterns, Cold and Heat are differentiated based on these deficiencies and excesses. Conventional physicians erroneously classify Chuan Shi Gu Zheng (Transmitted Corpse Bone Steaming/Tuberculosis) as Wu Lao. That belongs to Zhai Ji (Lao Disease/Consumption), which has its own categories; this distinction must be known.
Treats Liver Lao with Excess-Heat, characterized by Guan Ge (obstruction of upper and lower pathways) with firm and sluggish pulse, blockage and inability to pass, with withered hair and sallow complexion.
Zhu Gao (Porcine Fat) Sheng Jiang Zhi (Ginger Juice) (each 2 sheng) Qing Hao Zhi (Artemisiae Annuae Herba Juice) Tian Men Dong Zhi (Asparagi Radix Juice) (each 1 sheng)
Simmer gently in a silver or earthenware vessel until it becomes an ointment/paste. Take one spoonful per dose, mixed with Wine Water decoction, at any time.
