After two and a half months of treatment, the condition was cured, and he went out to do business.
In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), diseases of the brain are rarely mentioned specifically; this does not mean that brain medicine is neglected. In fact, diseases of the brain can be cured by enhancing the functional activities of the internal organs. Whether it is a brain tumor or blood stasis, diagnosis and treatment using TCM meridian pathology can achieve satisfactory results without the need for brain surgery.
The *Suwen: Chapter on the Generation of the Five Zang Organs* (Chapter 10) states: "Therefore, headache and diseases of the vertex belong to deficiency below and excess above. The fault lies in the Foot Shaoyin (Kidney Meridian) and Foot Taiyang (Bladder Meridian); if severe, the pathogen enters the Kidney. 'Goumeng' (dizziness and blurred vision) with 'Zhaoyou' (head shaking and dizziness), dizziness, vertigo, visual impairment, and deafness belong to excess below and deficiency above. The fault lies in the Foot Shaoyang (Gallbladder Meridian) and Foot Jueyin (Liver Meridian); if severe, the pathogen enters the Liver."
Deficiency below and excess above: Deficiency below refers to Kidney deficiency; excess above refers to excess patterns such as Wind pathogen or Blood stasis in the head.
Excess below and deficiency above: Wind pathogen and Dampness-Water are excessive in the Lower Jiao, preventing the flow of Jing Qi upwards. Righteous Qi is deficient in the upper part, leading to dizziness, confusion, and tremors.
The *Suwen: Chapter on the Distinctions of the Five Zang Organs* (Chapter 11) states: "The Brain, Marrow, Bones, Vessels, Gallbladder, and Uterus (Female Womb) are these six organs. They are generated by Earth Qi, all stored in Yin, and correspond to the Earth. Therefore, they store essence but do not drain turbidity, and are named the Extraordinary Fu Organs."
"The Stomach, Large Intestine, Small Intestine, Sanjiao (Triple Burner), and Bladder are these five organs. They are generated by Heaven Qi, their nature corresponds to Heaven, so they receive and discharge. These organs accept the turbid Qi from the Five Zang Organs and are named the Transmitting and Transforming Fu Organs. They cannot retain contents for long but must transport and discharge them. The Po Men (Anus) also serves the Five Zang Organs, and food and water cannot be stored for long."
Note: Generated by Earth Qi: Earth is Yin, storage is Yin, referring to the manifestation of substances generated by Zang Qi.
Corresponds to Earth: Refers to the forms manifested by Earth Qi.
Extraordinary Fu Organs: 'Qi' means wonderful function; 'Heng' means eternal constancy. It means that from birth to death, the wonderful functions of the Five Zang Organs remain constant and are not changed by external factors.
Generated by Heaven Qi: Heaven is Yang, Fu Organs are Yang, referring to the functions generated by Fu Qi.
Transmitting and Transforming Fu Organs: Opposite to the Extraordinary Fu Organs, these are organs that absorb energy, perform functions, produce waste, and excrete it.
Seven, Lung Cancer – Fundamentally Unrelated to Cigarettes
The *Suwen: Chapter on Cough* (Chapter 38) states: The Yellow Emperor asked, "Why does the Lung cause coughing?" Qibo replied, "All Five Zang and Six Fu Organs can cause coughing, not just the Lung."
(I) Differentiation of Cough
Qibo said: The Skin and Hair are the exterior correspondence of the Lung. The skin and Lung cooperate to govern respiration. The Skin and Hair are first affected by pathogenic factors, and the pathogen enters through its correspondence. If cold food or drink enters the Stomach, the cold Qi travels up the Lung Meridian to the Lung, causing Lung Cold. Lung Cold causes internal and external pathogens to combine, thus lodging in the Lung, resulting in Lung Cough.
Each Zang Organ is affected by disease in its corresponding season (Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter). If not in the corresponding season, transmission occurs according to the Six Meridian transmission rules.
Humans correspond to Heaven and Earth; therefore, each Zang Organ is affected when it is its ruling season. Exposure to Cold causes disease; mild cases result in cough, while severe cases result in diarrhea or pain.
In Autumn, the Lung is affected first.
In Spring, the Liver is affected first.
In Summer, the Heart is affected first.
In Late Summer (Extreme Yin), the Spleen is affected first.
In Winter, the Kidney is affected first.
Differentiation of Cough from the Five Zang and Six Fu Organs:
Symptoms of Lung Cough: Cough with wheezing and audible sounds; in severe cases, expectoration of blood.
Symptoms of Heart Cough: Cough accompanied by heart pain, a sensation of obstruction in the throat like a foreign body; in severe cases, sore throat and throat bi-syndrome.
Symptoms of Liver Cough: Cough accompanied by pain under both hypochondria; in severe cases, inability to turn the body, and fullness under the flanks upon turning.
Symptoms of Spleen Cough: Cough accompanied by pain under the right hypochondrium, radiating faintly to the shoulder and back; in severe cases, inability to move, and worsening of cough upon movement.
Symptoms of Kidney Cough: Cough accompanied by pulling pain between the shoulder and back; in severe cases, expectoration of saliva. The Kidney Meridian passes through the diaphragm into the Lung, so coughing causes pulling pain at the Lung Shu points. Both Lung and Kidney accumulate Water-Fluid. Thus, in severe cases, there is expectoration of saliva, phlegm-blood, itching in the throat causing cough, night cough, and cough when lying down. Night belongs to Yin, and both Lung and Kidney belong to Yin. This type of cough is a deficiency cough, not caused by common cold or tracheal inflammation.
Long-standing cough from the Five Zang Organs transfers to the Six Fu Organs.
Symptoms of Stomach Cough: Cough accompanied by vomiting; in severe cases, expulsion of roundworms. This occurs because prolonged Spleen Cough transmits to the Stomach.
Symptoms of Gallbladder Cough: Cough accompanied by vomiting of bile. This occurs because prolonged Liver Cough transmits to the Gallbladder.
Symptoms of Large Intestine Cough: Cough accompanied by fecal incontinence. This occurs because prolonged Lung Cough transmits to the Large Intestine.
Symptoms of Small Intestine Cough: Cough accompanied by flatulence, with gas escaping during coughing. This occurs because prolonged Heart Cough transmits to the Small Intestine.
Symptoms of Bladder Cough: Cough accompanied by urinary incontinence. This occurs because prolonged Kidney Cough transmits to the Bladder.
Symptoms of Sanjiao Cough: Prolonged cough leads to involvement of the Sanjiao. Sanjiao Cough presents with abdominal fullness and loss of appetite. These conditions gather in the Stomach and relate to the Lung, causing excessive mucus and drooling, facial edema, and rebellious Qi.
Cough must be differentiated by the Five Zang and Six Fu Organs, and the cause must be examined, distinguishing between Exogenous Cough, Endogenous Cough, and Blood Stasis Cough.
1. Exogenous Cough:
(1) Wind-Cold Cough: Cough with thin, white sputum, often with nasal congestion, runny nose, aversion to cold, headache, or bone and joint soreness. Tongue coating is white, pulse is rapid.
(2) Wind-Heat Cough: Cough with thick or yellow sputum, difficult to expectorate, dry mouth and sore throat, yellow nasal discharge, fever, sweating, aversion to wind, headache. Tongue coating is thin and yellow, pulse is floating and rapid.
(3) Wind-Warmth Dryness Cough: Cough with little sputum, or slightly turbid sputum difficult to expectorate, or blood-streaked sputum, dry mouth and throat, sore throat, dry lips and nose. Severe cough causes chest pain. Early stage may have aversion to cold and fever. Tongue coating is thin and yellow, tip of tongue is red, pulse is fine and rapid.
(4) Wind-Cool Dryness Cough: Cough with little or no sputum, itchy throat, dry mouth and lips, headache, aversion to cold, fever, absence of sweat. Tongue coating is thin and dry, pulse is floating and tight.
(5) Fire-Heat Cough: Dry cough, little sputum or blood-streaked sputum, irritability, thirst, red face, chest and hypochondriac pain, constipation. Tongue coating is yellow or red, pulse is surging and rapid or wiry and rapid.
2. Endogenous Cough:
(1) Spleen Deficiency Phlegm-Dampness Cough: Cough with much sputum, white and sticky, chest and epigastric pain, poor appetite, fatigue in limbs. Tongue coating is white and greasy, pulse is soggy and slippery.
(2) Phlegm-Heat Cough: Cough with yellow sputum, thick and difficult to expectorate, even blood-streaked sputum, chest oppression, dry mouth, bitter taste, sore throat. Tongue coating is yellow and greasy or yellow-white mixed, pulse is slippery and rapid.
(3) Liver Fire Invading Lung: Cough with rebellious Qi, continuous coughing, even expectoration of fresh blood or blood-streaked sputum, wandering pain in chest and hypochondria, irritability, heat sensation, bitter taste, dry throat. Tongue coating is yellow with little fluid, pulse is wiry and rapid.
(4) Yin Deficiency Cough: Dry cough with no sputum, or little sputum difficult to expectorate, dry mouth and tongue, or hemoptysis. Tongue is red with little coating, pulse is fine and rapid.
(5) Qi Deficiency Cough: Low-pitched cough with weak voice, shortness of breath, inability to catch breath, copious clear sputum, mental fatigue, aversion to wind, spontaneous sweating, prone to colds. Tongue coating is thin and white, tongue body is pale, pulse is weak.
(6) Yang Deficiency Cough: Recurrent cough, clear and thin saliva, dizziness, palpitations, aversion to cold, heavy limbs, accompanied by difficult urination. Tongue coating is white and moist, pulse is deep and slippery.
3. Blood Stasis Cough: During Blood Stasis Cough, Qi rebels, coughing is continuous, face appears purple or dark red, expectoration of blood clots or bloody sputum, wandering pain in chest and hypochondria, especially pain in the left chest and hypochondrium and Qimen (LR14) acupoint. Tongue coating is clean or yellow, pulse is surging, large, wiry, rapid, or deficient, fine, and soggy.
Cough is divided into Exogenous, Endogenous, and Blood Stasis types. Common cold is often the main cause. Various coughs may occur alone, mix together, or be complicated by food stagnation, fluid retention, excess complicating deficiency, or deficiency complicating excess. Generally, deficiency is tonified, excess is drained, cold is warmed, and heat is cleared. Excess patterns respond easily; deficiency patterns involve depletion of Essence and Qi and are hard to cure quickly.
Prolonged cough becomes consumption (Lao). Improper treatment of exogenous cough turns it into endogenous damage, presenting with coughing blood-phlegm, chest pain, asthma, and roaring breathing. These are attributed to the Lung and caused by improper treatment.
The rampant use of antibiotics for anti-inflammation, bronchodilators for cough suppression, and long-term side effects of tuberculosis drugs, combined with diagnostic errors and improper treatment, lead to chronic non-healing conditions. This causes elastic fatigue of the trachea and damage to the Lung and Kidney. Just as antihypertensive drugs damage the heart and blood vessels, causing cardiac enlargement, myocardial infarction, and angina pectoris, cerebrovascular and heart diseases rank second among the top ten causes of death. This is not caused by the disease itself, but by the damage inflicted by medicinal treatments on the heart.
We often encounter lung cancer patients diagnosed by teaching hospitals who did not undergo Cobalt-60 radiotherapy, chemotherapy, or surgery. After treatment by the author, when asked to return to the teaching hospital for re-examination, many answers were: "It might be a scar from pulmonary tuberculosis; the previous diagnosis was wrong." This simple statement resolves the lung cancer issue.
In recent years, the number of smokers has decreased fourfold, yet the number of lung cancer patients has increased threefold. The increase in lung cancer patients is inversely proportional to the decrease in smokers. Scientific medical data are often fabricated by experts and authorities to deceive those unfamiliar with medicine. Smoking increases the probability of coughing, but it is not the true culprit behind lung cancer! What is the true culprit? Is lung cancer related to smoking?
(II) Causes of Lung Cancer:
1. Kidney Deficiency Cough Misdiagnosed as Lung Cough:
During sexual intercourse, exposure to air conditioning or electric fans allows Wind Pathogen to enter the Kidney due to deficiency. The Kidney and Heart both belong to the Shaoyin Meridian. The Kidney Meridian passes through the diaphragm into the Lung. Cough caused by Wind invading the Kidney due to deficiency manifests as an itchy throat, worsening in the evening or at night, especially after intercourse, or lower back pain. The lower back is the mansion of the Kidney. This is Kidney Deficiency Cough. Treatment should tonify the Kidney and dispel Wind, resolving the cough.
Prolonged cough damages Qi, leading to Lung deficiency. However, current treatment for cough attributes it to acute or chronic inflammation of the trachea and bronchi. Instead of tonifying Lung and Kidney Qi, antibiotics are used to reduce inflammation, damaging the Heart and Kidney, and bronchodilators are used to suppress cough. Forced suppression of cough in the trachea and bronchi eventually leads to rupture of blood vessels in the trachea and bronchi. Patients, frightened by unexplained bleeding, undergo bronchoscopy biopsy. The biopsy creates wounds, exacerbating cough-induced bleeding.
Middle-aged and elderly people have relatively deficient Heart and Kidney. Cough often occurs after consuming cold foods because Kidney Yang is weak and rejects Cold. Many people blindly trust scientific diagnoses based on black spots on X-rays or abnormalities on scans. They fail to realize that lungs used for seventy or eighty years cannot be pristine. Consequently, patients undergo lung surgery and die soon after. Without surgery, they might live to one hundred without knowing they had lung cancer.
Lung cancer caused by Kidney Deficiency Cough typically presents with pain in the right chest, radiating to the Liver and Gallbladder if severe, or pain between the breasts with expectoration of white phlegm.
2. Blood Stasis Accumulating in the Liver:
Traumatic blood stasis or postpartum lochia (see Breast Cancer and Uterine Cancer chapters). Because the Heart lacks strength to push it out completely, it accumulates in the Lung. The Lung attempts to expel the blood stasis, causing cough with blood-tinged sputum. Prolonged cough that fails to heal leads to a lung cancer diagnosis. Such lung cancer typically presents with pain in the left chest, left lung, or heart area, radiating to the left shoulder, back, head, and neck if severe. Over time, pain occurs in the right hypochondrium (Liver/Gallbladder area) because the Liver stores Blood.
3. Lung Abscess (Fei Yong) and Lung Withering (Fei Wei):
Symptoms of Lung Abscess: Dry mouth, panting and fullness, dry and thirsty throat, edema of limbs in severe cases, expectoration of pus and blood, or foul-smelling turbid matter, dull slight pain in the chest. This is Lung Abscess.
Lung Abscess presents with shortness of breath, chest fullness, intermittent expectoration of pus and blood resembling rice porridge over time. This is difficult to treat. If vomiting of pus continues, it is incurable. If vomiting stops spontaneously, it heals itself.
Symptoms of Lung Withering: Prolonged cough, excessive sweating, severe loss of Body Fluids, stool resembling rotten melon, discharge resembling pig fat, frequent urination without thirst (thirst indicates healing/desire for recovery), excessive salivation and frothy sputum without pus. This is Lung Withering. Sweating, aversion to wind, cough, shortness of breath, nasal congestion, stiff neck, chest distension, and hypochondriac fullness persisting without recovery indicate established Lung Withering.
4. Pulmonary Effusion (Water Accumulation in the Lung):
Why does water accumulate in the Lung?
The Heart belongs to Fire, and the Lung belongs to Metal. The relationship between Heart and Lung is like fire and a pot. If Heart Fire is weak, it lacks the power to vaporize the Water of Lung Metal into steam or sweat for excretion via the nose or skin.
Water Qi condenses in the nose as nasal discharge, in the throat as phlegm, in the meridians below the ears as nasopharyngeal carcinoma or lymph node cancer, in the Lung as pulmonary effusion or lung cancer, and below the Heart as uremia (see Uremia is Not Kidney Disease, But Heart Disease chapter).
The cause of weak Heart Fire is the excessive use of anti-inflammatory drugs to reduce fire. The fluid extracted from pulmonary effusion is bloody water because it has not been filtered by alveoli; thus, it still contains blood components. If filtered by alveoli, it becomes phlegm or nasal discharge.
Treatment for pulmonary effusion is not drainage, but strengthening the Heart and tonifying Kidney Yang. When Heart and Kidney Yang are strong, pulmonary effusion can be evaporated into sweat or water vapor for excretion, transformed into phlegm for expectoration, or discharged via urine, leading to recovery.
Draining pulmonary effusion does not restore Heart and Kidney Yang but further weakens the patient's body, akin to kicking someone when they are down.
Today's lung cancer is caused by failing to differentiate coughs by Zang/Fu organs, exogenous/endogenous origins, cold/heat, deficiency/excess, or blood stasis. Instead, anti-inflammatory drugs and bronchodilators forcibly suppress cough, causing elastic fatigue and rupture of the trachea, leading to blood-streaked sputum, hemoptysis, pulmonary effusion, etc. Biopsy further damages the Lung, allegedly causing lung cancer. Lung cancer is fundamentally unrelated to smoking. Some smokers live past one hundred despite decades of smoking; they do not get lung cancer. The fact is that lung cancer is caused by medical errors, not cigarettes.
(III) Prevention and Treatment of Lung Cancer
1. Abstain from Sexual Intercourse During Colds
Avoid direct blowing of electric fans or air conditioning during intercourse to prevent Wind-Cold from entering the Kidney due to deficiency, causing lower body colds. For coughs caused by Wind-Cold entering the Kidney, treat as Xu Lao (Deficiency Consumption) by nourishing the Kidney and tonifying Qi to dispel Wind. Do not treat as inflammation and use anti-inflammatories. Especially during colds, intercourse is strictly contraindicated.
2. Ensure Complete Expulsion of Lochia During Childbirth
Postpartum lochia must be expelled completely and quickly (see Women's Uterine Cancer and Breast Cancer chapters); otherwise, endless complications may arise.
3. Contraindication of Antibiotics for Colds
At age forty, the circulation phase of the Hand Shaoyin (Heart) and Foot Shaoyin (Kidney) meridians begins, marking the stage where the body's meridians and Qi-Blood begin to decline. Avoiding anti-inflammatory drugs (antibiotics) for colds prevents damage to the Heart and Kidney. For middle-aged and elderly people with declining Heart and Kidney function, antibiotic use is strictly contraindicated.
4. Avoid Health Checkups to Prevent Unnecessary Medical Harm
Many middle-aged and elderly people undergo health checkups due to fear of lung cancer when experiencing occasional coughs. X-rays show many black spots. Doctors may suggest suspicious spots require biopsy. Biopsies are dangerous, often causing hemoptysis. People fail to consider that lungs aged sixty or seventy years cannot be pristine. A deficient body undergoing lung biopsy suffers greater harm. Lung Metal fails to generate Kidney Water, leading to premature death. Was death caused by fear, medical error, or the disease itself?
We see backward regions in mainland China and the Caucasus in Russia, where many longevity villages exist. They lack advanced medical technology, improved medical quality, and health checkups, yet live healthier and longer lives than us. Why?
If lung cancer is detected, Western medicine has no effective drugs or methods, relying only on surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy. These merely increase psychological burden and accelerate death. TCM syndrome differentiation and treatment can cure the cough, allowing patients to live to one hundred unaware of their lung cancer. Why not choose this path?
"Early detection, early diagnosis, early treatment" is a slogan often heard from cancer prevention experts and authorities. However, by the time it is detected, it is often too late.
In fact, more than ninety-five percent of cancer patients are scared to death or killed by improper medical treatment—surgery, electrotherapy, chemotherapy, and radiation. Only a very small minority die from the disease itself. Yet, doctors never tell you the truth of "too late"—that not checking would mean not dying.
Eight, Gastric Cancer
China ranks first in the world for gastric cancer deaths. What is the reason? We can infer this from the usage statistics of drugs, specifically antibiotics.
Japan's population is six times that of our country, yet our country's antibiotic usage is twice that of Japan. Everyone knows that Western medicine harms the stomach (see "Western Medicine Harms the Stomach, Actually Damaging All Five Zang and Six Fu Organs"). When harming the stomach, doctors add stomach medicine to alleviate discomfort, but the damage remains unnoticed, merely reducing vigilance. This reveals the true face of many cancers today with unknown causes or specific etiological factors.
The cause of gastric and liver cancer is fundamentally not the Eastern diet of rice or pickled vegetables. Rice does not harm the stomach. The mold in pickled vegetables, after long fermentation, is harmless to the human body and aids in the digestion and decomposition of nutrients; it does not harm the stomach or Liver/Gallbladder. Antibiotics are the true viral culprits harming humans.
Everyone can perceive the obvious and undeniable damage antibiotics inflict on the human stomach, Liver, and Gallbladder. Pediatric wards are always full. Why do children have yellow faces, emaciation, loss of appetite, and vomiting after medication? Is it because the medicine is too bitter, or because the medicine harms the stomach, causing rejection? If it cannot be expelled, how can the stomach and Liver/Gallbladder endure it?
