A pulse that is firm and strong indicates survival; a pulse that is small and weak indicates death.
Li's Discussion: In treating the internal return of evil blood (stasis), if it returns to the Liver Meridian, presenting with hypochondriac pain and spontaneous sweating, the treatment should involve breaking blood and promoting meridian flow.
Zhang's Discussion: After falling or trauma, Heart Fire may arise, with phlegm-saliva surging upward. The treatment should utilize San Sheng San (Three Saints Decoction) to vomit out obstructing phlegm.
Shen Ying San: Treats constipation due to blood stasis.
Da Huang (Rhubarb Root and Rhizome, macerated in wine, 1 liang), Tao Ren (Peach Seed), Hong Hua (Safflower), Gua Lou Gen (Trichosanthes Root), Chuan Shan Jia (Pangolin Scale, roasted, 2 qian), Dang Gui (Angelica Sinensis, 3 qian), Chai Hu (Bupleurum Root, as a guiding herb).

The above ingredients are made into pills using vinegar paste, sized like wu-tong seeds, taken ten pills at a time with wine.
Pain from beating or spraining belongs to the syndrome of blood stasis and can be treated with purgation. Enduring pain damages the blood; other treatments follow the same principles as above.
A pulse that is faint and fine indicates death.
Xu Sui Zi (Euphorbia Lathyris Root), Wu Bei Zi (Galla Chinensis), Gan Cao (Licorice Root).
Take one or two bowls of the above mixed with tea infusion to induce vomiting, treating poisoning from ingested herbs.

A pulse that is large, firm, and rapid indicates Dian Disease (Mania/Depression). A pulse that is deep and rapid indicates Phlegm-Heat. A pulse that is deficient and wiry indicates Shock/Fright.
Cases caused by Phlegm result from deficiency of both Qi and Blood, with Phlegm lodging in the Middle Jiao, obstructing the ascending and descending mechanisms. This leads to delusions in vision, hearing, and speech. Treatment should involve emesis.
Cases caused by Fire result from Fire entering the Lung Qi, which governs vigorous movement. The Fire transmits to the Liver, manifesting as picking at clothes and grasping at empty air, with excessive heat in the Stomach. Treatment should involve descending Fire.
Cases caused by Fright result from the disturbance of Heart Blood (the Heart is the root of Shen/Spirit). Accumulated Phlegm and stagnant Heat move along with the fright, confusing the Heart Spirit, resembling possession by evil spirits.
Treatment should first employ emesis, followed by An Shen Wan (Calming the Spirit Pill) as the main formula, assisted by herbs that calm the Liver, because the Gallbladder governs fright. Treatment methods: For Phlegm, use emesis with San Sheng San (Three Saints Decoction); for Fire, use descent with Cheng Qi Tang (Order the Qi Decoction); for Fright, use pacification with An Shen Wan (Calming the Spirit Pill).
General Treatment Formula: Huang Lian (Coptis Rhizome), Chen Sha (Cinnabar, descends fire), Gua Lou (Trichosanthes Fruit), Nan Xing (Arisaema Cum Bile), Ban Xia (Pinelliae Rhizoma, moves phlegm), Chuan Xiong (Ligusticum Rhizome, calms liver), Qing Dai (Indigo Naturalis), Chai Hu (Bupleurum Root).
