During pregnancy, fetal restlessness may be caused by improper diet and daily life, wind-cold invading the Chong and Ren meridians (Chong and Ren vessels), falling or striking injuries, anger causing liver fire hyperactivity, or spleen qi deficiency. One should investigate the cause and treat accordingly. If the fetal restlessness is due to the mother's illness, only the mother's illness needs to be treated; if the mother's illness is caused by fetal restlessness, then the fetus must be stabilized. In mild cases, there is uneasy fetal movement; in severe cases, it inevitably leads to miscarriage or fetal death. If the face is red and the tongue is cyanotic, this indicates fetal death; if the face is cyanotic, the tongue is red, and there is foaming at the mouth, this indicates maternal death; if both lips and mouth are cyanotic with foam coming from the corners of the mouth, this indicates the death of both mother and child. Examine carefully and treat. Use the following formula:
Foshou San (Buddha's Hand Powder)
Treats fetal impact during the sixth or seventh month of pregnancy due to collision, or fetal death in utero, with descending lochia and unceasing pain, lockjaw, and near-syncope. Use this to probe: if the fetus is undamaged, pain ceases and both mother and child are safe; if the fetus is damaged, it will be expelled immediately.
Danggui (Radix Angelicae Sinensis, 2 qian) Chuanxiong (Rhizoma Chuanxiong, 4 qian). Adding Yimucao (Herba Leonuri, 5 qian) is even better.
Take one dose, add one zhong of water and one zhong of wine, boil once more, and take warm. After walking for five or six li, take another dose.
Antai San (Stabilize Fetus Powder)
Treats pregnant women who have accidentally suffered injury, abdominal pain and unease, or have fallen from a height, been severely compressed by heavy objects, disturbing the fetal origin, with unbearable pain and vaginal bleeding. Also treats stomach deficiency with rebellious qi causing vomiting, and various pains in the heart and abdomen. Generally, this is an indispensable medicine during pregnancy.
Suasha (Fructus Amomi, amount unspecified), ground into powder. Take 3 qian per dose, mixed with hot wine or mugwort salt decoction. This medicine should not be used in large amounts during the eighth and ninth months of pregnancy.
Antai Yin (Stabilize Fetus Decoction)
Treats after conception, feeling qi unease, slight abdominal pain, lower back pain, poor appetite, fetal restlessness with vaginal bleeding. When taking it regularly for several doses between the fifth and sixth months, the effect is very good.
Baizhu (Radix Atractylodis Macrocephalae, 2 qian, stir-fried with soil) Huangqin (Radix Scutellariae, 1.5 qian) Sharen (Fructus Amomi, stir-fried) Danggui (Radix Angelicae Sinensis) Baishao (Radix Paeoniae Alba, 1 qian each) Chuanxiong (Rhizoma Chuanxiong) Zisu (Folium Perillae, 0.8 fen each) Gancao (Radix Glycyrrhizae, 0.4 fen) Shudihuang (Radix Rehmanniae Praeparata, 1 qian, washed with wine).
Baizhu and Huangqin are the sacred medicines for stabilizing the fetus.
Take one dose, decoct with water and take. If vaginal bleeding does not stop, add Puhuang (Pollen Typhae, stir-fried) and Ejiao (Colla Corii Asini, 1 qian each). If abdominal pain occurs, add Xiangfu (Rhizoma Cyperi, vinegar-stir-fried, 1 qian) and Zhike (Fructus Aurantii, bran-stir-fried, 1 qian).
Qianjin Baotai Wan (Thousand Gold Fetus Preservation Pills - Circulating in the Capital)
Whenever a woman conceives and miscarries at three months, although it is due to insufficient qi and blood, it is actually because the Chong meridian (Penetrating Vessel) is injured. The Chong meridian corresponds to the Yangming Stomach meridian, which supplies the pregnancy. At this time, one must strictly regulate diet, eliminate desires, and avoid anger to prevent spontaneous abortion. Taking this can preserve the fetus.
Guishen (Radix Angelicae Sinensis head, wine-washed) Shudihuang (Radix Rehmanniae Praeparata, ginger-stir-fried) Ejiao (Colla Corii Asini, stir-fried with gecko powder into pearls) Huangqin (Radix Scutellariae, stir-fried) Xuanduan (Radix Dipsaci, wine-washed) Xiangfu (Rhizoma Cyperi, soaked in wine, vinegar, children's urine, and salt water for three days each) Yimucao (Herba Leonuri) Chenpi (Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae, 2 liang each) Aiye (Folium Artemisiae Argyi, vinegar-stir-fried) Nanxiong (Rhizoma Chuanxiong, 1 liang each) Sharen (Fructus Amomi, stir-fried, 5 qian) Baizhu (Radix Atractylodis Macrocephalae, soil-stir-fried) Duzhong (Cortex Eucommiae, ginger-stir-fried, 4 liang each) Hongzao (Fructus Jujubae, boiled, skin removed, pits removed).
Grind all ingredients into powder, form pills using jujube paste, sized like wu-tong seeds. Take 100 pills per dose, swallowed with rice soup on an empty stomach.
