Indicated for irregular menstruation in women and all conditions occurring before and after childbirth, it is a superior medicine for regulating the menses and promoting fertility. It has yielded remarkable results upon repeated use.
Xiangfu (Cyperus Rhizoma, 2 jin) and Qiai (Artemisia argyi, de-stemmed and cleaned, 2 jin).
These two ingredients are divided into four portions (1 jin each). Each portion is soaked overnight in aged wine, rice vinegar, tongbian (child's urine), and rice washing water, respectively. They are then boiled over charcoal fire until soft and cooked through. The best method is to pound them into thin cakes using a wooden pestle in a stone mortar, dry them in the sun, and grind them into fine powder for later use.
One large white-feathered black-bone rooster. Kill it, remove feathers, and clean the entrails with hot water, ensuring they do not come into contact with raw water. Then add Danggui (Radix Angelicae Sinensis, washed with wine, 4 liang), Baishao (Radix Paeoniae Alba, stir-fried with wine, 4 liang), Shudihuang (Prepared Radix Rehmanniae, soaked in wine, avoid iron, 4 liang), Renshen (Radix Ginseng, removed rhizome, 3 liang), Huangqi (Radix Astragali, honey-fried, 2 liang), Baizhu (Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae, stir-fried), Chenpi (Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae, pith removed), Baifuling (Poria, peel removed), Sharen (Fructus Amomi, stir-fried, 1.5 qian each), Wuyao (Radix Linderac, stir-fried, 1 liang), Shenqu (Massa Medicata Fermentata, stir-fried), and Gancao (Radix Glycyrrhizae, honey-fried, 0.75 qian each).
The above twelve medicinal materials are processed into coarse powder, placed inside the chicken's stomach, sewn shut with thread, and added to a clay pot with equal parts of aged wine, rice vinegar, tongbian, and rice washing water. Boil over charcoal fire until thoroughly cooked. Remove the bones, pound into cakes in a stone mortar, dry in the sun, and grind into fine powder for later use. Add Muxiang (Radix Aucklandiae) and Chenxiang (Aquilaria Lignum Resinatum, 5 qian each, avoid heat), Guongui (Cortex Cinnamomi), and Ganjiang (Rhizoma Zingiberis, stir-fried until half-black, 3 qian each).
The above four ingredients are separately ground into fine powder for later use. Mix the powders from the previous three steps evenly, sift through a fine sieve, and bind with refined honey to form pills the size of Sophora japonica seeds. Take 70 pills per dose, administered on an empty stomach with boiling water or light salt water. Note by the author: This formula is highly effective for women with blood deficiency and stagnation.
A general remedy for conditions before and after childbirth in women, also known as Yimu Wan (Motherwort Pill). It consists solely of Yimucao (Herba Leonuri). This herb is also known as Chongwei Zi. Its leaves grow opposite each other like hemp, and its square stems have concave surfaces. In the sixth and seventh lunar months, purple or white flowers bloom at each node; if no flowers appear, it is not the correct herb. It grows everywhere in the north and south. Harvest the whole plant, including roots, when the flowers are in full bloom during Dragon Boat Festival, Minor Heat, or the sixth day of the sixth lunar month. Dry in a ventilated place away from copper and iron vessels. Pound in a stone mortar with a wooden pestle, sift into fine powder, and bind with refined honey to form pills the size of a bullet. Take one pill per dose, guided by the following decoctions. Alternatively, adding Danggui, Chishaoyao (Radix Paeoniae Rubra), and Muxiang is particularly beneficial. The dosage in pills is unlimited until the disease is cured. Take 3-5 pills daily; or make pills the size of Sophora japonica seeds, taking 70-80 pills per dose on an empty stomach before meals, guided by the following decoctions (making an extract for mixing is also excellent).
