Heavenly Skull Cap (2 qian, roasted until yellow and ground into powder; those aged deeply and soaked in mud are superior) Bone from Tiger Excrement (1 qian, roasted with butter. Obtained from the large intestine of a killed tiger is also acceptable) Brain of Green Snake (size of a mung bean, roasted with butter until color changes; this ingredient may be omitted if unavailable) Turtle Shell (roasted with butter until yellow, 1 liang; those with nine ribs are particularly good) Benzoin (8 liang) Peach Kernel (1 piece, skin and tip removed; all above ingredients should be ground into fine powder) Areca Seed (1 piece, separately ground into fine powder) Musk (1 fen, separately ground) Young Mugwort (6 liang, select the part near the root, 3-4 cun long) Prepared Soybean (300 grains) Scallion Root (2 cun per piece, crushed) Eastward-growing Branches of Peach, Willow, Plum, and Mulberry (7 stems each, thickness like chopsticks, length 7 cun each, finely chopped) Maple Leaf (21 pieces) Urine of a Healthy Boy (0.5 sheng)
For the above ingredients, first decoct the young mugwort, eastward-growing peach, willow, plum, and mulberry branches, maple leaves, scallions, and prepared soybeans in 3 sheng of water, reducing to approximately 0.5 sheng. Strain out the dregs. Add the heavenly skull cap, bone from tiger excrement, brain of green snake, turtle shell, benzoin, peach kernels, and urine of a healthy boy. Decoct together to extract the juice, strain out the dregs, obtaining about 4-5 he. Grind the areca seed and musk together, mix evenly, and prepare as a single dose. Take warm in the morning, cover with blankets to induce sweating. If tiny worms are suspected in the sweat, wipe with silk cloth and burn immediately. Subsequently, diarrhea should occur, and worms must be expelled. If any worm is not dead, burn it with high fire and discard into flowing water. The medicinal ingredients must never be revealed to the patient, and this rule applies thereafter. After ten days or so, when the patient's qi and condition subside, administer another dose using the same method, continuing until no more worms are expelled.
The *Bai Yi Xuan Fang* records: Li Ying, a Wujie Lang residing in Yuanzhou, originally served as a judicial officer in Xiangzhou. He had three children. His eldest son, while discussing the purchase of a house, entered an uninhabited room, suddenly felt his heart palpitate, and experienced severe chills in his back, eventually developing phthisis (consumption/tuberculosis), which led to his death. His second daughter subsequently fell ill, and the disease was transmitted to the third son, presenting identical symptoms. Li Ying was terrified, praying daily to deities and offering meals to support wandering monks and Daoists, hoping to encounter a miraculous person, promising a reward of 300,000 coins. Later, he met a Daoist priest who transmitted this prescription without accepting any money, and instructed him to pray to the City God for spiritual assistance. Following this advice, he expelled seven worms. Their color resembled red meat with white bellies, approximately 1 cun long and 7-8 fen wide. The anterior end was sharp and the posterior end square. Near the anterior belly, there was a mouth. The body had legs around its circumference, resembling fish bones, thin as needle tips and curved, already dead. Attempting to burn them, iron chopsticks could not pierce them. The disease severity decreased abruptly. Another dose was then administered, resulting in the expulsion of four small worms, after which he recovered completely. Kun states that the heavenly skull cap is the corpse of human worms; bone from tiger excrement is the corpse of hairy worms; brain of green snake is the corpse of scaled worms; turtle shell is the corpse of shelled worms. The essence of the Five Elements follows their own kind; thus, these corpses are borrowed to treat the five corpse-related zhu diseases. This corresponds to the concept of "similar energies attract" in the *Great Changes* (*I Ching*) and "reducing through affinity" in the *Inner Canon* (*Neijing*). Eastward-growing peach, willow, plum, and mulberry branches originate from the Zhen trigram (East), acquiring the ascending qi of heaven and earth. Therefore, they can correct abnormalities and dispel misfortune. Maple leaves and young mugwort appear in the Li trigram (South), acquiring the nurturing qi of heaven and earth, thus suppressing yang and driving away pathogenic heat. Scallion roots and prepared soybeans are exterior-releasing herbs that can unblock interstices and open the "ghost gates" (pores). Musk and benzoin are penetrating herbs that can benefit orifices and eliminate zhu-pathogenic evil. Areca seeds can kill three types of parasites, and peach kernels can eliminate bad blood. Urine of a healthy boy, possessing the complete qi of Shaoyang, can both clear pathogenic fire and promote the generation of new qi.
