In Wenzhou, a craftsman fell from a house under construction. There were shovel heads standing upright on the ground, and he was injured near a pillar by his foot, causing blood to gush out. As there were no medicines in the village, a monk named Daoguang scraped dust from a door panel and applied it to cover the wound. The bleeding stopped, the pain ceased, and within two days, the wound healed. Someone asked Daoguan how this dust could treat *Jinchuang* (metal-induced wounds). Daoguang replied, "The ancients used door dust; this is what they meant."
A woman developed sores on her thighs after warming herself by a fire during winter. The exudate flowed continuously, and no one recognized the condition. Later, someone said, "This is caused by fire qi entering the body and generating internal heat." One should simply apply powdered *Huangbai Pi* (Cortex Phellodendri) to the affected area, and it will heal immediately. This proved true. When the condition recurred, and *Huangbai* was unavailable, applying a decoction of *Bohe* (Menthae Haplocalycis) also resulted in immediate healing.
In previous years, two dentists in Wuhu had a dispute. One poured a bucket of lacquer over his head, while the other suffered from sores nearly fatal. Someone advised him to apply mud from an iron shop's grinding trough, which cured him instantly; applying crab roe also cured him. (From *Suosui Lu*)
*Oupi* (Lotus Root Skin) disperses blood stasis, a efficacy originating from stories of cooks driving oxen to chase water. Garlic shoots sold at wild old men's noodle shops are drugs for expelling snakes. Roadside *Disanqi* (Speranskia tuberculata) has been kept secret for treating metal wounds. (From *Bencao*)
Sun Zhenren (Sun Simiao) stated: To treat arrowheads stuck in the throat or chest, or needles that cannot be removed, crush *Lougu* (Gallus gallus domesticus var. domestica - note: context implies insect/mole cricket likely, but text says Lougu which usually means mole, however traditional texts often use Mole Cricket *Anemoplia* or similar for such purposes, literal translation 'Mole' used here with caution as per text) into juice and drip it onto the site. After three to five applications, the arrowhead will naturally fall out.
If food is stored in containers at night without tight covering, mice may try to steal it but fail, circling the container and shedding tears into it. Those who consume this food may develop *Huangji* (jaundice), with the whole body turning yellow like wax, difficult to treat with acupuncture or medicine. In this state, one must not eat Hu Yang meat (mutton/beef) or pine nuts.
Excessive salt damages the sinews; excessive vinegar damages the bones. Eating bland rice leads to obesity... [Text fragment unclear/missing character] Speaking too much depletes Qi; remembering too much damages the Heart; anger injures Jing (Essence); laughing too much damages Shen (Spirit).
Food and drink should not be left exposed outdoors, lest flying filaments (such as spider webs) fall into them. Consuming such food causes blisters in the throat. Immediately blow ash made from burning *Baifan* (Alumen) and *Badou* (Crotonis Fructus) into the mouth, or rub it quickly to recover. (From *Suosui Lu*, same source)
If rainwater from a thatched roof drips onto various dried meats, consuming it can cause stones. Also, freshly made dried meat that refuses to dry, sacrificial meat that trembles spontaneously, or meat contaminated by spiders and crawling bees. Any dried meat whose color changes without reason, or which does not move when roasted over fire but moves spontaneously without fire, can be lethal and must not be eaten. When sleeping at night, do not let wind blow through ear holes, or it will cause deafness. Upon returning exhausted from long travel, do not engage in sexual intercourse, or it will result in the Five Exhaustions (*Wulao*). Do not open your eyes to wash your face immediately upon waking, as this causes dry, blind eyes, excessive tearing. A mother's tears must not fall into her son's eyes, or it will cause the eyeball to rupture and form nebulae. (From *Xiuzhen Mijue*)
