Twenty-one prescriptions, one treatise.
Prescription for taking Bai Shiyin (Quartz):
Bai Shiyin (Quartz) (Select the finest quality, quantity unspecified).
Take the above single herb, first place it in a silk bag, steam it four or five times over seven sheng of rice in a steamer basket (Zeng), then crush it finely, sift it through a fine silk sieve, grind it with a jade pestle until fine. Allow it to settle, take the clear water from the top for flying (levigation), store it again in a white refined silk bag, sew it tightly, wrap it in rice, and steam it three times. Take one jin of lard, soak it in water for ten days, changing the water twice a day, until all red veins are removed. Peel off the thin membrane, refine it over a gentle fire, mix it with Bai Shiyin powder, stir until incorporated, and take one spoonful mixed with wine, twice daily. Collect the water used for levigating the stone, use it to cook Jingsmi (Japonica Rice) porridge, drink as much wine as desired, ideally feeling a slight warmth from alcohol each time.
Prescription for roasting Bai Shiyin (Quartz):
Bai Shiyin (Quartz) (One da liang).
Place the stone in a clay crucible pot, cover it, and roast it with charcoal fire. First, prepare two sheng of ash-free wine in a porcelain vessel. When the stone is red hot, immediately throw it into the wine. Wait for it to cool, then drink according to the nature of the wine. Good stones can be reused three to five times before discarding; place them in the courtyard. It is said: Taking ten da liang allows a person at seventy years old to retain the strength equivalent to that of a thirty-year-old.
Prescription for boiling Bai Shiyin (Quartz) with Gold, Silver, and Renshen (Ginseng):
Bai Shiyin (Quartz) (Five da liang) Gold (Ten da liang, select refined gold; raw gold is toxic) Silver (Four da liang) Renshen (Ginseng) (Two da liang, use the whole root).
Take the above four herbs, find an iron cauldron, wash it clean, and put the aforementioned herbs into the cauldron. First add three da sheng of water. Place a stick vertically in the cauldron reaching the bottom, mark the water level. Add another two da dou and seven sheng of water, totaling three da dou. Boil until bubbles resemble fish eyes, gradually reducing the heat until the water level reaches the mark on the stick, then stop heating. Quickly place wet earth at the bottom of the cauldron to filter, collect the juice, and store it in a non-porous container. Filter out the gold, silver, and stones, retrieve the Renshen (Ginseng), and consume it slowly with the medicinal juice. Take three da he on an empty stomach every morning, and two da he in the evening. After each dose, drink an appropriate amount of wine to promote the circulation of medicinal qi. It can also be made into food pastes if desired. Avoid storing rice, stagnant, or rancid foods; there are no other dietary restrictions.
Prescription for soaking Shiying (Quartz) and Cishi (Magnetite) in wine:
Shiying (Quartz) (Five da liang, from Zezhou) Cishi (Magnetite) (Five da liang, without hair/spicules; if spicules are abundant, ten da liang is acceptable).
Crush the above two herbs separately. Place each in a double-layered refined silk bag. Hang them in one dou of good wine stored in a non-porous container. Soak for six to seven days. Drink three to four cups daily, maintaining a slight sensation of alcohol in the body. If desired, additional herbs such as Niuxi (Achyranthes Root), Danshen (Salvia Miltiorrhiza), Duzhong (Eucommia Bark), Sheng Dihuang (Rehmannia Root), Wuzhuyu (Evodia Fruit), Huangqin (Scutellaria Root) etc., may be added based on the patient's constitution (hot/cold) and condition, provided they do not conflict with existing contraindications. There are no other restrictions. After middle age, gray hair and beard will turn black, and lower back pain and deafness will be cured. Add one or two sheng of wine every three to five days to keep the bottle full. Replace herbal ingredients when their efficacy is suspected to be exhausted. After three to four months, if the stone's efficacy is suspected to weaken, remove, crush, and repackage. Discard after half a year and prepare anew.
Prescription for boiling Shiying (Quartz):
Shiying (Quartz) (Five da liang, from Zezhou).
Crush the above single herb to the size of small beans or buckwheat, remove fine dust, wash thoroughly in water, and place in a double-layered refined silk bag tied with a rope. Take five da sheng of clear water, boil in a non-porous iron pan. Ensure the stone bag does not touch the bottom to prevent sand/gravel damage. Place a stick across the rim of the pan, hang the stone bag on it, keeping it two or three fen away from the bottom. Boil until one sheng of liquid remains. Pour the liquid into a bowl, let it settle overnight, take the clear supernatant, and consume it all at once on an empty stomach in the morning. Cooking thin porridge with this liquid is also beneficial. After each dose, walk three to five hundred steps and drink three to four cups of clear wine. Stones boiled twenty times lose efficacy. Wrap them in cloth, bury them three chi deep under the south wall for one hundred days, after which they can be reused, though fresh stones are superior.
Prescription for making pills from Dihuang (Rehmannia) and Shiying (Quartz) soaked in wine for tonification (Secret Formula):
Sheng Dihuang (Fresh Rehmannia Root) (Ten da jin, harvested in October, finely cut) Shiying (Quartz) (Five da liang) Ash-free clear wine (Two dou).
Place Shiying (Quartz) in a clay crucible, roast until extremely red. Immerse it in the wine, remove the stone, and soak the Dihuang (Rehmannia) in the wine. Remove after three days, dry in the sun, and return to the wine. Repeat until the wine is consumed, leaving only about one sheng of liquid. Crush the Dihuang (Rehmannia) into powder, mix with the remaining one sheng of wine to form pills. Thoroughly pounding is best. Take twice daily, alongside meals, adjusting as needed. This formula strongly suppresses heat and tonifies the body, has no contraindications, and does not trigger latent pathogens. It is a secret formula kept in the heart. Select large and plump Dihuang (Rehmannia).
Prescription for boiling Shiying (Quartz) with Cow's Milk:
Shiying (Quartz) (Three da liang, from Zezhou) Cow's Milk (One da sheng) Water (Three da dou).
First place the cow's milk in the pan. Make a bag from four layers of raw fine silk, fill it with Shiying (Quartz), tie the top, and submerge it in the milk without letting it touch the bottom. Mark the level with a stick. Then add water. Simmer gently over charcoal fire until the water evaporates and only milk remains. Use the previous stick to check the level. Stop when it reaches the mark. Remove the stone bag. Cooking porridge with the milk is also excellent. Continue this process for twenty days, then stop taking it. It greatly tonifies the body and mind, and the user will know its effects personally.
