Mingmen Acupoint (Located on the midline of the spine, opposite the umbilicus; moxibustion for seven moxa cones is sufficient.)
Jizhong Acupoint (Below the twentieth thoracic vertebra); perform moxibustion according to the patient's age in terms of moxa cones.
Zhongwan Acupoint (one point), Qihai Acupoint (one point). The above two points are indicated for moxibustion in cases of blood loss leading to pale complexion, soggy pulse, cold hands and feet, poor appetite, and vomiting when forced to eat; moxibustion is recommended, with miraculous efficacy.
Ba Jian records: A man, aged forty-two, was emaciated. Due to forcibly drinking sour wine, he experienced abdominal pain shortly thereafter, which progressed to severe diarrhea for over ten days. After defecation, blood appeared, either red or black, accompanied by borborygmus and intermittent abdominal pain. Various physicians attributed this to blood heat and used Shaoyao Bapi Wan without effect. The patient still had no desire to drink, vomited acid upon eating, and became increasingly emaciated. His complexion was bluish-yellow and lusterless, with epigastric fullness and aversion to cold substances. He had a dry mouth and occasional restlessness. The pulse was wiry, thin, slightly slow, with cold hands and feet.
The Classics state: In Jieyin syndrome, initial hematochezia amounts to one sheng; if it recurs, two sheng; if it recurs again, three sheng. Furthermore, when pathogenic factors reside in the five zang organs and the yin pulses are disharmonious, blood stagnates. Yin qi becomes internally knotted, unable to circulate outward, lacking nourishment, and seeping into the intestines, thus causing hematochezia. The pulse is deficient and choppy, not indicative of intestinal wind or viscera toxin. External moxibustion was applied to Zhongwan, Zusanli, Qihai, and other acupoints, while internally Pingwei Diyutang was administered, resulting in recovery.
Danxi treated a man who indulged in alcohol. Due to fleeing from disaster, he suffered from lower bleeding and painful hemorrhoids. The pulse was deep, choppy, yet seemingly rapid, indicating yang stagnation in the yin aspect. He was prescribed Yujin, Chuanxiong, Baizhi, Cangzhu, Xiangfu, Baishao, Gegen, fried flour, and Shengjiang Banxia Tang mixed for administration.
Another case of deficiency and damage involved hematochezia, with three to four bowls daily, yellowish and emaciated body. Siwu Tang was used, added with Lotus rhizome juice (Oujie) one cup, Honghua and Puhuang each 1 qian, Baizhi, Shengma, and Huaihua each 0.5 fen, resulting in recovery.
An elderly woman suffered from anger-induced hematochezia for over ten years. She had reduced appetite, physical fatigue, mental agitation, sometimes feeling as if smoked, with slight facial edema in the morning. When bleeding temporarily stopped, her spirit cleared; if provoked, symptoms recurred, resisting all treatments. The left pulse was floating, large, very deficient, choppy and irregular upon prolonged palpation; the right pulse was deep, choppy, thin, weak, with the cun position deep and nearly imperceptible. This was due to qi stagnation generating phlegm-saliva, which accumulated in the chest, preventing clear qi from ascending, obstructing meridians so descending failed, resulting in minimal heart blood unable to self-nourish. Without resolving phlegm-saliva, qi could not move; without qi ascending, blood could not return to its vessels. Spleen-strengthening herbs were used as sovereign drugs, assisted by Erchen Tang plus Jiuhonghua, Shengma, Dangshen, Jiuhuanglian, Qingpi, Beimu, Zexie, Renshen, Baizhu, and Jiubaishao. Each prescription included one slice of Fuzi, decocted and taken for four doses. After bleeding stopped, Fuzi was removed, and Gegen, Mudanpi, and Zhizi were added; the smoky sensation ceased. Subsequently, Shenqu, Sharen, Dihuang, and Muxiang were added, with doubled Renshen, Fuling, and Baizhu; recovery occurred within half a month.
