Treats individuals with sallow complexion (mian se wei bai), faint voice, weakness in the four limbs, and a weak pulse. If there is internal heat, or if food is difficult to digest leading to acid regurgitation, this belongs to deficiency fire (xu huo).

Decoct in water, add Sheng Jiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens) and Da Zao (Jujubae Fructus).
Add Chen Pi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium), it becomes Wu Wei Yi Gong San (Five-Ingredient Decoction for Extraordinary Efficacy). Add Chen Pi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium) and Ban Xia (Pinelliae Rhizoma), it becomes Liu Jun Zi Tang (Six-Gentlemen Decoction).
Zhang Luyu said: For Qi deficiency, tonify with sweet flavors. Ke Yunbo said: The Classics state: "The strong recover as Qi moves; the frail become ill as Qi stagnates." Generally, humans exist within the interaction of Qi, born from Qi, and the generation of vital Qi fundamentally relies on Stomach Qi. Food enters the Yin, nourishing Yang; day and night they cycle, circulating internally and externally. If respiration/Qi movement ceases even for a breath, accumulations form, leading to distension, anorexia, or the production of Phlegm and retention of fluids. Consequently, muscles emaciate, wheezing, coughing, vomiting, and belching arise, various symptoms swarm forth, and the Spirit mechanism (Shen Ji) of transformation is severed. Liu Jun Zi Tang is the general formula for the Qi aspect.

Must first regulate its Qi. It is also said that Si Wu Tang cannot achieve the merit of Yang generating Yin without Qi-tonifying herbs. Truly, these words are correct! However, I have often stated that this decoction, after the resolution of Fire pathogen in Shang Han (Cold Damage), where residual heat remains in the Blood aspect, causing slight fever at night that does not cease, when combined with Chai Hu (Bupleuri Radix) or added with Gui Zhi (Cinnamomi Ramulus), responds effectively immediately. Its merits should not be overlooked.
