In cases of pediatric acute convulsions, symptoms include red face, rapid breathing, phlegm obstruction, twitching of hands and feet, absence of tears and nasal discharge, and a loud cry. Although this stems from blockage of middle qi, the syndrome manifests in the Yang aspect. Qianjin San (Formula seen in previous Section 19), Xingxing San (Formula seen in previous Section 15), and Anshen Wan (Formula seen in previous Section 17) can be used. If there is rapid breathing, pale complexion, cold limbs, frequent convulsions, and staring eyes, this is slow convulsion. Cold-phlegm and wind-toxin have entered the Bao Luo (uterine/connective tissue network); urgently use Huichun San to treat it. There is also Slow Spleen Wind, which may result from cold pathogenic wind-toxin entering the Liver Meridian, damaging the Spleen Earth; or it may result from excessive use of purgative and dispersing methods, causing internal liver wind vertigo and spleen-stomach deficiency. Symptoms include keeping eyes closed all day, appearing asleep but not quite, slight nasal flaring, weak and urgent breathing, alternating cold and hot hands and feet, cold nose tip, and abnormal patterns on the Tiger's Mouth area. No bowel movement for several days, or passing watery stool, clear urine or milky white urine. Quickly administer medication according to the formula. Intermittently advance Liu Jun Zi Tang (Six Gentlemen Decoction, i.e., Jun Tang from Internal Diseases Section 2 minus Huoxiang and Sharen), Lizhong Tang (Regulate the Middle Decoction, Formula seen in Internal Diseases Section 69), and other decoctions.
