Discourse states: Swelling of the sclera (white part of the eye) is a manifestation of the Liver and Lung. The eyes are the external manifestation of the Liver, and the sclera is governed by the Lung Qi. If Lung Qi becomes stagnant and obstructed, and the Liver meridian fails to circulate freely, pathogenic heat invades, preventing the dispersion of toxins. Consequently, toxic vapors attack upward to the eyes, causing swelling of the sclera or pain. Treatment should focus on promoting the free flow and unblocking of the Zang-Fu organs, applying external anti-swelling medicaments, and using a lancet to drain bad blood; there will be no case that does not heal.
