The Gallbladder Meridian of Foot-Shaoyang originates at the outer canthus (Tongziliao), ascends to the head corner, descends behind the ear, follows the neck, runs anterior to the Hand-Shaoyang Pericardium Meridian to the shoulder, then retracts and emerges posterior to the Hand-Shaoyang Sanjiao Meridian, entering the supraclavicular fossa. Its branch enters the ear from behind the ear, emerges anterior to the ear, and reaches the posterior aspect of the outer canthus. Another branch diverges from the outer canthus, descends to the Daying point, converges with the Hand-Shaoyang Sanjiao Meridian below the eye, adds to the Jiache point, descends the neck, converges with the supraclavicular fossa, descends into the chest, penetrates the diaphragm, connects with the Liver, and belongs to the Gallbladder; it follows the interior of the hypochondrium, emerges at the Qichong point, surrounds the pubic region, and transversely enters the hip joint (Biyan). The straight branch descends from the supraclavicular fossa to the axilla, follows the chest, passes below the costal margin, and converges with the Biyan point; it descends along the lateral thigh, emerges at the lateral knee, runs anterior to the fibula, directly reaches the end of the Juegu (lower fibula), emerges anterior to the lateral malleolus, follows the dorsum of the foot, and enters between the second toe. Its branch diverges from the dorsum of the foot, enters between the big toe, follows the medial side of the interphalangeal bone of the big toe, emerges at its tip, returns to penetrate the nail bed, and emerges at the tuft of hair on the toe.
When this meridian is disturbed, disorders include bitter taste in the mouth, frequent sighing, pain in the heart and hypochondrium with inability to turn the body, severe cases presenting with a dusty complexion and lack of luster in the body, and heat on the lateral foot, known as Yang Jue (Yang Reversal). This meridian primarily governs diseases of the bones, manifesting as pain at the head corner and mandible, pain at the outer canthus, swelling and pain in the supraclavicular fossa, axillary swelling, scrofula (Madao and Xiaying), sweating with chills, malaria, pain in the chest, hypochondrium, ribs, thigh, lateral knee, lower leg, Juegu, lateral malleolus, and all joints, and dysfunction of the second toe. In excess conditions, the Renying pulse is one times larger than the Qikou pulse; in deficiency conditions, the Renying pulse is smaller than the Qikou pulse.
The collateral vessel of the Foot-Shaoyang Gallbladder Meridian is named Guangming, located five cun above the lateral malleolus, diverging to run to the Foot-Jueyin Liver Meridian and connecting downward with the dorsum of the foot. Excess manifests as reversal cold/heat (Jue), while deficiency manifests as flaccidity syndrome (Wei), with difficulty rising from sitting; treatment involves selecting this collateral.
The Gallbladder Sinew Meridian originates at the second toe, ascends to bind at the lateral malleolus, follows the lateral edge of the lower leg, and binds at the lateral knee. Its branch diverges from the lateral fibula, ascends to the thigh, binding anteriorly above the Futu point and posteriorly at the sacrum. The straight branch ascends alongside the costal margin, moves upward to the anterior axillary fold, clutches the chest and breast, and binds at the supraclavicular fossa. The straight branch emerges from the axilla, penetrates the supraclavicular fossa, emerges anterior to the Taiyang Meridian, follows behind the ear, ascends to the frontal angle, crosses the vertex, descends to the mandible, and ascends to bind at the outer canthus. Its branch binds at the outer canthus, forming the "Outer维系" (Waiwei). Disorders include twitching and convulsion of the second toe,牵引 (traction) to lateral knee convulsion, inability to flex or extend the knee, tendon tension pulling forward to the thigh and backward to the sacrum, upward pain in the costal margin, upward traction to the supraclavicular fossa, chest, breast, and neck. If the neck tendon tension is severe, injury to the left angle causes the right eye to remain closed; the sinews ascend over the right angle and run with the Chong Mai, crossing from left to right. Thus, injury to the left angle renders the right foot useless, termed "Crossed Tendon Connection" (Weijin Xiangjiao). Treatment uses burning needle rapid needling, taking effectiveness as the standard and pain points as acupoints, named Mengchun Bi.
Evil invading the collateral of the Foot-Shaoyang Gallbladder Meridian causes hypochondriac pain with dyspnea, coughing with sweating. Puncture each of the points at the junction of the claw and flesh on the second toe once. Dyspnea resolves immediately, sweating stops immediately. For coughing, keep warm with clothing and diet; recovery occurs within one day. Treat left by needling right, right by needling left; disease resolves immediately. If not resolved, repeat needling according to method.
Evil invading the collateral of the Foot-Shaoyang Gallbladder Meridian causes stagnation pain in the pivot (hip joint) with inability to lift the thigh. Puncture the pivot with a filiform needle. In cold conditions, retain the needle for a long time; determine duration by the waxing and waning of the moon. Disease resolves immediately.
In heat diseases, if chest and hypochondriac pain appear first with restlessness of hands and feet, puncture the Foot-Shaoyang meridian and tonify the Foot-Taiyin meridian. In severe cases, perform the Fifty-Nine-Point Needling. If dizziness and vertigo precede heat with chest and hypochondriac fullness, puncture the Foot-Shaoyin and Foot-Shaoyang meridians.
The Foot-Shaoyang Gallbladder Pulse runs from head to foot, measuring eight chi in length, totaling one zhang six chi for both sides, comprising eighty-six acupoints.
