The Foot-Yangming Stomach Meridian originates at the sides of the nose, crosses at the root of the nose (Yingxiang, LI20), and is constrained alongside the meridians of the Taiyang (Bladder). It descends along the lateral side of the nose, enters into the upper gum, then emerges to encircle the lips. It crosses below at Chengjiang (CV24), retreats along the posterior mandible, emerges at Daying (ST5), follows Jiache (ST6), ascends in front of the ear, passes through Guest Master (Shangguan, GB3), follows the hairline, and reaches the forehead. Its branch descends from before Daying (ST5) to Renying (ST9), follows the throat, enters the Supraclavicular Fossa (Quepen, ST12), descends through the diaphragm, belongs to the Stomach, and connects with the Spleen. The straight branch descends from the Supraclavicular Fossa along the medial aspect of the breast, descends alongside the umbilicus, and enters the Qi Street (Qichong, ST30). Another branch arises from below the stomach opening, runs within the abdomen, descends to the Qi Street where it joins the straight branch. From there, it descends through Biguan (ST31), reaches Futu (ST32), descends to the middle of the patella, follows the lateral aspect of the tibia, descends to the dorsum of the foot, and enters the space between the second toe. A branch separates three cun below the knee, descending into the lateral space of the second toe. Another branch separates from the dorsum of the foot, enters the space between the great toe, and emerges at its tip.
When this meridian undergoes pathological changes, the disease manifests as shivering chills, frequent groaning and yawning, darkened complexion. Upon onset, the patient dislikes people and fire, startles at the sound of wood, feels palpitations, and prefers to stay alone behind closed doors and windows. In severe cases, they may desire to climb high and sing, strip off clothes and run, experience abdominal rumbling and distension; this is termed Jue syndrome. This meridian primarily governs diseases generated by blood, including mania, malaria, warm pathogenic invasion with sweating, rhinorrhea or epistaxis, sores on the lips, neck swelling, pharyngeal obstruction, massive abdominal edema, pain and swelling of the knee and patella, pain along the chest, breast, Qi Street, thigh, Futu, lateral leg, and dorsum of the foot, and inability to use the second toe. When Qi is excessive, the anterior body feels hot; if excess is in the Stomach, digestion is rapid with easy hunger, and urine is yellow. When Qi is deficient, the anterior body feels cold and shivering; cold in the Stomach causes distension and fullness. In excess conditions, the pulse at Renying (ST9) is three times larger than that at Cunkou (Renzhong, LU9); in deficiency, the pulse at Renying is smaller than that at Cunkou.
The Luo-Connecting vessel of the Foot-Yangming is named Fenglong (ST40), located eight cun above the malleolus, diverging to connect with the Taiyin Spleen meridian. Its branch follows the lateral aspect of the tibia, ascends to connect with the vertex, gathering Qi from all meridians, and descends to connect with the larynx and pharynx. Pathological manifestations include pharyngeal obstruction and sudden aphonia due to rebellious Qi; excess presents as mania and epilepsy; deficiency presents with inability to flex the foot and withered calves. Treatment involves the divergent point.
The Sinews of the Foot-Yangming originate at the second toe, knot at the dorsum of the foot, slant outward and upward to the fibula, ascend to knot at the lateral knee, continue straight up to the hip joint (Bitong), follow the ribs, and attach to the spine. The straight branch ascends along the thigh, knots at the knee. Its branch knots at the lateral fibula, combining with the Shaoyang. The straight branch ascends along Futu (ST32), knots at the thigh, gathers at the genitalia, spreads over the abdomen, reaches the Supraclavicular Fossa to knot, ascends to the neck, clamps the mouth, combines at the nose, and ascends to combine with the Taiyang. The Taiyang serves as the upper eyelid tendon, while the Yangming serves as the lower eyelid tendon. Its branch knots from the cheek to the front of the ear. Pathologies include spasms of the second toe and calf, jumping stiffness of the foot, spasms at Futu, swelling of the anterior thigh, hernia, abdominal tendon tension pulling to the Supraclavicular Fossa and cheek, sudden facial deviation (Bell's palsy). In acute cases, eyes cannot close; in heat cases, tendons relax and eyes remain open. Cold in the cheek tendons causes contraction and pulling of the mouth; heat causes relaxation and deviation. Treatment uses horse fat plaster applied to the tense side, and white wine mixed with cinnamon powder applied to the relaxed side. Use a mulberry hook to pull the affected side, place a pit with burning mulberry charcoal at sitting height, apply the plaster to the tense cheek, drink fine wine, eat roasted meat. If unable to drink wine, exert effort similarly. Perform three patting sessions. Treatment employs burning needle劫刺 (Jie Ci), taking effectiveness as the number, and pain as the location. This is named Jichun Bi (Spring Bi Syndrome).
Evil invading the collateral of the Foot-Yangming causes rhinorrhea/epistaxis and cold in the upper teeth. Needle one point each at the junction of the claw and flesh of the second and third toes, left needle right, right needle left.
Miu transmission causing upper tooth and lip cold pain: observe blood stasis in the dorsal hand vessels and remove it. Needle one point above the claw of the second toe of the Foot-Yangming, and one point each above the claws of the first and second fingers of the Hand-Yangming. Cure immediately. Left take right, right take left.
The Great Luo vessel of the Stomach is named Xuli, piercing the diaphragm to connect with the Lung, emerging below the left breast. Its pulsation moves the clothing; this is the Pulse of Zong Qi (Gathering Qi). The Foot-Yangming Stomach Meridian runs from head to foot, eight chi long, totaling one zhang six chi for both sides, comprising ninety acupoints.
