Formula for treating the five labors and seven injuries, emaciation, and dry wasting.
Dried Rehmanniae Radix (ground into powder, one sheng) Sesame Oil (half sheng) Honey (two sheng) Pig Fat (one jin)
Decoct the above four ingredients in a copper vessel until they can be formed into pills the size of Chinese quince seeds. Take three pills with warm water, twice daily, gradually increasing to ten pills. Long-term regular use yields significant benefits; those who were thin and dark will become plump and lustrous.
Formula for treating deficiency-cold, withered emaciation, lack of luster, and various insufficiencies due to deficiency damage.
Ox Marrow Sheep Fat (two sheng each) Butter (Jingxin Lu uses pig fat) Fresh Ginger Juice White Honey (three sheng each)
First decoct the butter until ripe. Then add the ginger juice, followed by the honey, then the sheep fat and ox marrow. Finally, simmer over low heat, heating and cooling three times ("three up, three down"), until the moisture from the ginger juice is completely evaporated, forming a paste. Stir until it solidifies. Take with warm wine according to one's tolerance, without limit on quantity, to make the person plump, strong, and warm. (Jingxin Lu states this formula treats hundred diseases, labor-induced deficiency, wind-dampness, with miraculous tonifying effects. Suitable for both men and women.)
Formula for tonifying deficiency and emaciation; long-term use lightens the body and prevents aging, a divine and effective prescription.
On the tenth day of the ninth lunar month, collect fresh wet Goji berries (Lycii Fructus) one sheng and clear wine six sheng. Boil for five or six boils, remove, grind thoroughly, filter to obtain the juice. Clean the remaining berries extremely well, sun-dry them, grind into powder, mix with the previously obtained juice, and simmer over low heat to form pills. Take two fangcun bi (square-inch scoops) with wine, twice daily, increasing to three scoops. Alternatively, form into pills and take thirty pills per dose.
(Also known as Xingjin Dan in Taishang Zhouhou Wang Jing Fang):
Almond (Xing Ren) three sheng. Soak in water, remove skin, tips, and double-kernel almonds. Cook thoroughly, grind, and wash with water in a basin to extract seven or eight sheng of juice. Place an iron cauldron on fire, add four jin of sheep fat, melt directly in the cauldron, then add the almond juice. Keep warm for four or five days until the color resembles gold. Take pills the size of a bullet, three times daily. After one hundred days, the body becomes plump and white, complexion improves, and aging is delayed.
Another method: Remove skin and tips from almonds, roast until yellow, and grind. Take pills the size of Chinese quince seeds, three times daily. Treats withered emaciation, making the body lustrous without contraindications. For cough with reversed qi, myriad throat ailments, chest distress with inability to swallow, combining with Poria (Fuling), Farfleuris Flos (Kuandonghua), and Asteris Radix (Ziwan) greatly enhances efficacy.
