(One treatise, thirty prescriptions)
Treatise states: In cases of postpartional opisthotonos and various wind diseases, toxic drugs must not be used. Only single herbs or two herbs should be used. Profuse sweating must be avoided. Special caution is needed against inducing vomiting, diarrhea, or diuresis, as this will certainly lead to death. Da Dou Zi Tang (Black Soybean Purple Decoction) is highly beneficial for postpartional care.
Treatment for various postpartional diseases, wind-stroke with flaccidity and spasms, stiff back with locked jaw, mere restlessness and heat, unbearable thirst, heaviness of head and body, itching of the skin, or severe cases with vomiting, regurgitation, and fixed gaze. These are all caused by deficiency wind, cold, dampness, and overstrain:
Sojae Semen Nigrum (Dadou) 5 sheng; Vinum Clarificatum (Qingjiu) 1 dou.
The above two ingredients are stir-fried in an iron wok over strong fire until extremely hot and emitting charred smoke. Pour the wine over the beans, strain, and take 1 sheng per dose, multiple times day and night. After finishing the dose, if slight sweating occurs, recovery ensues. This method first dispels wind, second dissolves blood stasis. If pregnancy injury or fracture occurs, or if the fetus dies in the womb for three days, taking this wine will cure the condition.
Treatment for wind-stroke spasms and locked jaw occurring within one hundred days after childbirth, and also for treating blood and qi pain, overstrain, and tonifying the kidney:
Angelicae Pubescentis Radix (Duhuo) 1 jin; Sojae Semen Nigrum (Dadou) 5 sheng; Vinum (Jiu) 1 dou 3 sheng.
The above three ingredients are first soaked in wine for two nights. If urgent, simmer gently over low heat until the wine reduces by 3 sheng, then strain. Separately, stir-fry the soybeans until extremely charred and smoking. Pour the Angelica-infused wine over the beans, strain out the beans, and take 1 sheng per dose, three times during the day and twice at night.
