Thirty-one prescriptions for various diseases of donkeys and horses.
Emergency Care: Among the six domestic animals, the horse is the most precious, bearing the labor of long-distance travel, required by both wise and foolish people. Whether on frontier deserts or in villages, sudden onset of acute yellow disease, black sweat, and other illnesses requires knowledge of proper watering and feeding. This is appended at the end of the gentleman's volume for reference. When riding far, upon arrival, first brush clean with empty-cut grass, then provide water. After drinking, feed millet and beans. Feeding grain/water simultaneously beforehand will inevitably cause illness in the horse. (From [missing text])
*Zhouhou Fang* treats horses suffering from heat disease, chong sang (nasal polyps), black sweat, nasal pus cavities, and refusal to eat or drink.
Gua Lou Gen (Trichosanthes Radix), Bei Mu (Fritillariae Bulbus), Jie Geng (Platycodonis Radix), Da Qing (Isatidis Folium), Zhi Zi Ren (Gardeniae Semen), Wu Lan (Baphicacanthi Causis), Kuan Dong Hua (Farfarae Flos), Da Huang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma), Bai Xian Pi (Dictamni Cortex), Huang Qin (Scutellariae Radix), Yu Jin (Curcumae Radix) (each 2 da liang); Huang Bo (Phellodendri Cortex), Ma Ya Xiao (Natrii Sulfas) (each 4 da liang).
Crush and sieve the above thirteen herbs. Feed appropriately during illness or regularly for prevention. For severe cases, administer 3 da liang of medicine, along with Di Huang (Rehmanniae Radix) half jin, Chi (Fermented Soybean) 2 he, and Man Jing You (Turnip Seed Oil) 4 he. Mix well, feed before fasting until evening, then feed again. Highly effective.

Another prescription:

Another prescription:

Cut the above eight ingredients, add 15 sheng of water, boil to obtain 8 sheng, remove dregs, add Musk (She Xiang) powder size of a bean, stir well. Divide into two doses for instillation. Administer during breakfast time: give 1/3 of water intake allowance. By noon: give 2/3. By night: allow full drinking. Repeat next day.
