Zhi Jun (3 liang, soaked in wine, steamed over water until soft, then pounded into a paste) Ru Xiang (Boswellia Resin), Mo Yao (Myrrh) (both defatted, 1 liang each) Xiong Jing (Realgar Crystal) (5 qian)
She Xiang (Musk) (1.5 qian) Xi Huang (Calculus Bovis / Cattle Gallstone) (3 fen)
Each ingredient is ground into a fine powder, pounded a thousand times to form pills the size of Sophora seeds (Wu Ren), dried in the sun. Each dose is 5 qian, taken consecutively for ten doses for immediate cure.
Ma states: For xuan yong (perineal abscess) and gang yong (anal abscess) in their initial stage, this formula is most suitable. If the patient first suffers from coughing before the abscess develops, it is not suitable.
Treats luo li (scrofula/tuberculous lymphadenitis) in its initial stage, and also treats heng xuan (bubo/groin abscess) and tie gu ju (deep-seated bone abscess). For luo li, take with light ginger decoction.
Gan Sui (Radix Euphorbiae Kansui), Da Ji (Radix Euphorbiae Lathyridis) (both ground into fine powder) Bai Jie Zi (Semen Sinapis Albae) (stir-fried and ground into fine powder, equal parts)
Form into small pills using refined honey. Take three times daily, 3 fen each time. Note that Gan Sui is incompatible with Gan Cao (Licorice Root); they must absolutely not be taken on the same day.
Ma states: Zi Long Wan is identical to the ancient formula Kong Xian Dan (Control Phlegm-Fluid Pill). It should only be administered to robust individuals. After two or three doses, once phlegm-fluid is expelled, administration should cease. Prolonged use will inevitably cause diarrhea, anorexia, damage to vital energy (Qi), and impair the Spleen. Exercise caution.
