This condition presents with edema throughout the body, where pressing leaves an indentation like mud. If not treated urgently, water-dampness flows to the four limbs and cannot exit via the Bladder (Bladder), resulting in a fatal condition.
Prescription:
Black Morning Glory Seed (Qian Niu Zi, *Pharbitidis Semen*), two qian; Kansui Root (Gan Sui, *Kansui Radix*), two qian; Cinnamon Twig (Rou Gui, *Cinnamomi Cortex*), three fen; Plantago Seed (Che Qian Zi, *Plantaginis Semen*), one liang. Decoct in water and take orally.
After one dose, more than one dou of fluid is discharged; after two doses, recovery is complete. Do not administer a third dose under any circumstances, as doing so may be fatal! This is because Qian Niu Zi and Gan Sui are most effective at promoting urination and purging bowels.
Previously, Xianyu Ji (courtesy name Boji) of the Yuan Dynasty recorded that Song Huizhi, a physician from Hangzhou, was skilled in treating Water Distension (Shui Gu). He used one dried loofah, peeled and chopped, stir-fried together with fourteen bitter bean seeds (Ba Dou, *Crotonis Fructus*) into a powder... [text incomplete]
This condition is swelling caused by Qi deficiency, resembling water edema but not being true water retention; it simply lacks the mud-like indentation upon pressure. It must begin with swelling on the dorsum of the feet, gradually spreading upwards to the upper body, thus affecting the head...
Prescription:
Atractylodes Macrocephala Rhizome (Bai Zhu, *Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma*), one liang; Coix Seed (Yi Mi, *Coicis Semen*; Poria (Fu Ling, *Poria*); Bitter Orange Fruit (Zhi Ke, *Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium Viride*), five fen; Radish Seed (Luo Bo Zi, *Raphani Semen*), one qian; Ginseng Root (Ren Shen, *Panacis Ginseng Radix*)... [text incomplete]
Decoct in water and take orally.
If discomfort occurs initially, efficacy will eventually manifest with prolonged use. Recovery typically occurs within thirty doses. Avoid salt for three months; Shi Hu (Niter) should also be avoided.
Lower abdominal pain accompanied by edema in the four limbs, not severe; the complexion is red with white spots, resembling insect damage; there is no slight swelling of the "sleeping silkworm" area under the eyes...
Prescription:
Omphalia Lapponica (Lei Wan, *Omphaliae Spora*), three qian; Angelica Sinensis Root (Dang Gui, *Angelicae Sinensis Radix*), one liang; Turtle Shell (Bie Jia, *Testudinis Carapax et Plastrum*, vinegar-processed), one liang; Water Chestnut Powder (Di Li Fen, *Eleocharis Tuberosa Powder*), one liang (use juice from fresh ones, one zhong); Medicated Leaven (Shen Qu, *Massa Medicata Fermentata*), three qian.
After one dose, countless parasites are expelled; after two doses, all parasites are eliminated and distension subsides. A third dose is unnecessary. However, after recovery, the condition must be regulated using Liu Jun Zi Tang (Six Gentlemen Decoction), removing Licorice Root (Gan Cao, *Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma*).
This condition arises either from blood stasis due to falls or sprains that does not dissipate, or from stagnation of congealed blood due to melancholy, or from retained blood due to wind pathogens that fails to manifest, remaining in the abdomen and leading to Blood Distension (Xue Gu)...
Leech (Shui Zhi, *Hirudo*, stir-fried until black), three qian; Angelica Sinensis Root (Dang Gui, *Angelicae Sinensis Radix*), two liang; Omphalia Lapponica (Lei Wan, *Omphaliae Spora*), three qian; Safflower Flower (Hong Hua, *Carthami Flos), three qian; Immature Bitter Orange Fruit (Zhi Shi, *Citri Reticulatae Fructus Immaturus*), three qian; White Peony Root (Bai Shao, *Paeoniae Radix Alba*), three qian; Achyranthes Root (Niu Xi, *Achyranthis Bidentatae Radix*), three qian; Peach Kernel (Tao Ren, *Persicae Semen*), forty kernels (skin and tips removed, ground). Decoct in water and take orally.
Immediately, after one dose, blood stasis is cleared and recovery ensues. After one dose, do not administer a second dose; instead, switch to Si Wu Tang (Four Substance Decoction) for regulation, adding Atractylodes Macrocephala Rhizome (Bai Zhu, *Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma*) to the blood-nourishing formula...
