Treats facial paralysis with deviation of the mouth and eyes, and also treats patients who have suffered from wind-stroke for three years without recovery.
Take one jin (approx. 500g) of fresh pine needles, finely chop them to the size of beans, pound them in a wooden or stone mortar until juice is extracted, store in a raw silk bag, soak in one dou (approx. 10 liters) of clear wine for two nights, then simmer near fire for one night. Initially take half sheng (approx. 200ml), gradually increase to one sheng. Stop when sweat appears on the head and face. If wine is unavailable, soaking in water is also acceptable.
Treats facial paralysis with deviation of the mouth and eyes.
Take one large spider, rub it on the Jiache (St6, Jawbone) acupoint and the area in front of the ear on the flaccid side of the face. Stop when the face returns to normal alignment. Alternatively, rub while facing a fire, or use a ball of webbing from a large spider, sized like a marble, for rubbing. This is also effective.
Treats facial paralysis with deviation of the mouth and eyes.
Take seven silverfish (Lepisma saccharina), rub the flaccid side. Stop as soon as alignment is restored to prevent over-correction. In acute cases, pathology exists on both the affected (spastic) and unaffected (flaccid) sides. First rub the flaccid side, then the spastic side, using less force on the spastic side.
Treats facial paralysis with deviation of the mouth and eyes, where speech causes traction and stiffness in the four limbs, with no other discomfort. This is caused by inconvenient living conditions, allowing wind-pathogen to enter the meridians through the ears during sleep. External application is suitable.
Take five liang (approx. 187.5g) of large Gleditsia sinensis fruit pods, remove skin and seeds, grind into powder. Mix with three-year-old rice vinegar. Apply to the right side if the face deviates to the left, and to the left side if it deviates to the right. Reapply when dry.
Treats various types of wind-induced facial paralysis with deviation of the mouth and eyes.
Centipede (three pieces: one honey-fried, one wine-soaked, one wrapped in paper and roasted; total three pieces) Arisaema cum Bile (Sanqi, three pieces, each cut into four parts).
Grind the above into fine powder, add a small amount of real Moschus (She Xiang), mix with hot wine, take one qian (approx. 3-5g) after meals.
Treats excess wind-heat congestion attacking the head and face, causing facial paralysis with deviation of the mouth and eyes, abnormal speech, muscle twitching, sensation of insects crawling on the face, as well as manic speech, coma, rigid tetany, and all types of wind-heat. All are treated.
Borneolum Syntheticum (Pian Nao, half liang, separately ground) Calculus Bovis (Niu Huang, three liang, separately ground) Scorpio (Wei Jiao, remove toxicity, stir-fry) Gypsum Fibrosum (Shi Gao, one and a half liang each for the above two ingredients) Astragali Radix (Huang Qi, [text missing here], each of the above seven ingredients...).
Grind the above into fine powder, mix evenly, bind with refined honey into pills. Each liang makes ten pills. Take one pill per dose, dissolved in Mentha haplocalyx decoction (Bo He Tang), taken after meals and before bed.
