Whenever there is a cold damage (Shanghan) or epidemic disease, regardless of whether it is Yin syndrome or Yang syndrome; for the elderly, children, or pregnant women who have taken incorrect medications leading to critical condition and impending death, with deep, hidden pulse and unconsciousness, this formula can be administered after seven days. It has a high success rate, rarely failing. This formula is named Du Ming San (Life-Grasping Powder), also known as Fu Mai Tang (Pulse-Recovering Decoction). Use Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix) 1 liang, add two bowls of water, boil vigorously over strong fire until one bowl remains, immerse in well water to cool, and then take orally. After a short while, sweat will appear on the nose bridge, the pulse will recover immediately, and the illness will improve. (From *Bai Yi Xuan Fang*)
For infants suffering from fright-induced convulsions resulting in misaligned pupils, use Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix), E Jiao (Donkey-hide Gelatin), and glutinous rice stir-fried until they form beads, each 1 qian. Add one bowl of water, boil down to 0.7 bowls, and take warm. Administer twice daily until cured, then stop. It is effective. (From *Zhi Zhi Fang*)
When the condition gradually progresses to difficulty in eating, it is called Sui Yi Bing (Marrow Overflow Disease). Boil Bai Zhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) in water, rinse the mouth and swallow the decoction; recovery occurs upon efficacy. (From Zhang Rui's *Ji Feng Bei Ji Liang Fang*)
Due to the retention of raw or hard foods in the intestines and stomach, parasites may develop over time. The patient may crave raw rice; otherwise, they remain unhappy all day, becoming emaciated, sallow, and losing appetite, which endangers life. Use Cang Zhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma), soaked in rice wash water overnight, chopped, dried, and ground into powder. Make pills using steamed dough, sized like wu zi (Chinese quince seeds). Take 50 pills per dose before meals, washed down with rice drink, three times a day. *Hui Min Ju* records that Zhao Yin used this formula to treat a courtesan, curing her in twenty days. This is because retained raw rice dampens the intestines and stomach, preventing grain digestion and causing this disease. Cang Zhu removes dampness, warms the stomach, and aids grain digestion. (From *Yang Shi Jia Cang Jing Yan Fang*)
Coolness in the afternoon (if red bean-sized or black spots appear on the body, it is incurable). It is suitable to cauterize the palms and soles of hands and feet, the back center, Bai Hui (GV20), and Xia Lian (LI8). Internally administer Zi Cao Tang: Zi Cao (Arnebiae Radix seu Cortex) 1 liang, Wu Lan (Isatidis Folium) 1 liang, Mu Xiang (Aucklandiae Radix) 1 liang, Huang Lian (Coptidis Rhizoma) 1 liang. Boil in water and take orally. (From *San Shi Liu Huang Fang*)
If the tongue is retracted and the mind is confused, especially if speech is disordered, death is likely. Use Dang Gui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix) and Bai Zhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) each 2 liang, boil in water, add fresh ginger juice and honey, mix, and take orally. (From *San Shi Liu Huang Fang*)
Someone bitten by a snake fell into immediate coma, with one arm swollen as thick as a thigh. Soon, the entire body skin swelled, turning yellow-black. A Daoist priest mixed 1 jin of Xiang Bai Zhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix) powder with freshly drawn water, washed the wound, and the patient felt rumbling in the intestines. Yellow fluid exuded from the mouth, foul and pungent. After a long while, the swelling subsided to normal. He said: Using Mai Men Dong Tang (Ophiopogonis Decoction) to mix the powder is even better, and continue applying the powder topically. Another monk bitten by a snake had a rotting foot unresponsive to various medicines. A wandering monk washed the wound several times with fresh water, revealing white tendons amidst the decay, and dried it. He applied a mixture of Bai Zhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix) powder, Dan Fan (Alum), and a small amount of She Xiang (Moschus) to the site. Evil fluids gushed out. Daily treatment led to full recovery within a month. (From Hong Mai)
