Dried Ginger (Ganjiang), Cinnamon Twig (Guixin), Rhododendron Flower (Zhi Zhu Hua), Ligusticum Wallichii Root (Xiong), Aster Tataricus Root (Zi Wan), Genkwa Flower Bark (Yuanhua Genpi) (each 2 fen); Centipede (Wugong) (one piece, remove head and feet, roast).
Asarum (Xixin), Licorice Root (Gancao) (roasted), Aristolochia Manshuriensis Stem (Guidu You), Ginseng Root (Renshen), Pinellia Tuber (Banxia) (washed, each 1 fen).
The above twelve ingredients are ground into a fine powder. Honey is refined to make pills the size of soybeans. Take five pills per dose, with rice water, three times a day. If the effect is not obvious, increase to seven or eight pills. There is no case where this medicine fails to cure. Avoid mutton, malt sugar, raw green onion, raw vegetables, kelp, and cabbage.
Treats five types of cough: Qi cough, Bi cough, Zao cough, Xie cough, and Leng cough. This is the formula for treating all of them.

Regarding the disease of panting/wheezing (Chuan), Huangdi asked Qibo in the *Huangdi Neijing*. Qibo replied: Walking at night causes panting originating from the Kidney, with excessive pathogenic qi damaging the Lung. Falling or fear causes panting originating from the Liver, with excessive pathogenic qi harming the Spleen. Sudden fright causes panting originating from the Lung, with excessive pathogenic qi damaging the Heart. Wading through water or falling/injury causes panting originating from the Kidney and bones. At such times, courageous people recover as their Qi flows smoothly, while timid people retain the pathogen and become ill. Tracing the origin of the disease, although it is said that all stem from the Lung and Qi, if external pathogens are contracted presenting with Taiyang syndrome (Taiyang Disease - a pattern of exterior excess cold), characterized by floating pulse, absence of sweating, and panting, Mahuang Tang (Ephedra Decoction) is appropriate. For Yangming disease (Yangming Syndrome - interior heat excess), characterized by sweating, aversion to cold absent, abdominal fullness, panting, and tidal fever, Chengqi Tang (Bowel-Purging Decoction) is appropriate. If the exterior pathogen has not resolved, and purgatives were mistakenly taken causing unceasing diarrhea, with a rapid/intermittent pulse, panting, and sweating, Gegen Huanglian Huangqin Tang (Kudzu, Coptis, and Scutellaria Decoction) is appropriate. For mild panting, Guizhi Houpo Xizi Tang (Cinnamon Twig, Magnolia Bark, and Apricot Seed Decoction) is used. For sweating and panting without significant heat, Mahuang Xingzi Gancao Shigao Tang (Ephedra, Apricot Seed, Licorice, and Gypsum Decoction) is appropriate. If the exterior pathogen has not resolved, fluid retention in the epigastrium exists, accompanied by fever, panting, or vomiting, Xiao Qinglong Tang (Minor Blue Dragon Decoction) with Ephedra removed and Apricot Seed added is the primary treatment. For panting due to Yin syndrome (Cold-Excess pattern), characterized by cold limbs, deep/thin pulse, or large cun/small chi pulse, or rapid/hurried six-pulse positions; or epigastric distension and hardness, spontaneous cold sweat, frequent bowel movements, upper body panting, or throat obstruction, this is due to extreme deficiency of original Qi and internal/external cold-dampness. Restoring Yang and dissipating internal Yin-cold will lead to recovery; Fanyin Dan (Return to Yin Pill) is appropriate (the above formulas are found in *Baiwen*, so they are not repeated here). I will speak generally: For panting caused by mutual overacting of the Zang organs, Xingzi San (Apricot Seed Powder) is used. For panting due to cold constraint and latent heat, Huagai San (Canopy Powder) and Jiubao Tang (Nine Treasures Decoction) are used. For acute cold exposure, excessive warming by fire or heavy clothing covering, leading to heat injuring the Lung causing excess panting, which presents with many heat symptoms, Xixin San (Mind-Washing Powder) mixed with cold water is appropriate. For panting due to disharmony of Qi mechanism and profuse phlegm, Siqi Tang (Four Seven Decoction) combined with Official Bureau Jiegeng Tang (Platycodon Decoction), decocted with ginger, is appropriate. For panting with excessive saliva/phlegm, Qianmin Tang (Thousand String Decoction) and Chuanpi Banxia Tang (Tangerine Peel and Pinellia Decoction) are appropriate. For inability to lie flat, with panting upon lying down, this is due to reverse flow of Water-Qi ascending to the Lung. The Lung floats and rises when receiving water, preventing smooth Qi flow; the pulse is deep and large; Shenmi Tang (Mysterious Secret Decoction) is appropriate. The accumulation in the Lung is named Xiben (Breath-Rising Accumulation), located under the right hypochondrium, the size of a cup, causing shivering aversion to cold, panting and cough, and potentially carbuncles/fistulas; Zaogao Wan (Jujube Paste Pill) is appropriate. For upper body Qi rebellion causing panting, Shenshou Tang (Divine Bestowal Decoction) is used. For upper excess and lower deficiency causing panting, Suzi Jiangqi Tang (Perilla Seed Descending Qi Decoction) taken with swallowing Heixi Dan (Black Tin Pill) is appropriate. For elderly people who naturally have a robust constitution and cannot tolerate hot medicines, do not lightly administer Dan agents or various hot medicines. Instead, discuss using Michuan Jiangqi Tang (Secret Transmission Descending Qi Decoction) and Fenxin Qi Yin (Separate Heart Qi Drink); the general principles do not exceed these. If one has chronic gout (Hongjiao - often referring to severe leg swelling/pain or metabolic disorder in ancient texts) accompanied by panting, it should be treated as gout. Furthermore, bone-steaming consumptive panting (Guzheng Laochuan) has its own specialized discussions, so I dare not indiscriminately cover it.
