The above five ingredients are decocted in water and taken warm in two divided doses. The *Shen Shi Fang* adds Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma). If loose stools occur, remove Zhimu and add Renshen. If night sweats persist after taking this formula, remove Xiong and add Shaoyao. For palpitations (Zhengchong), remove Zhimu and Xiong, and add Renshen, Huangqi (Astragali Radix), Danggui, Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium), and Lianrou (Nelumbinis Semen).
[Dahuang Zhechong Wan] (from *Jingui Yaolue*) Treats extreme debility from the Five Exhaustions, emaciation, abdominal fullness, inability to eat, internal dry blood, rough skin resembling scales, and dark eyes. This formula should be used to attack and expel the evil blood before tonifying.

Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix, fried), Ruxiang (Olibanum), Moyao (Myrrha) (each one qian), Renshen (Ginseng Radix, two qian), Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma, four qian), Zhizi (Gardeniae Fructus, fourteen fruits, peeled and fried), Mengchong (Blattidae/Insect, fourteen pieces), Shuizhi (Hirudo, fourteen pieces, fried until black).
Ground into fine powder, mixed with refined white honey to form pills the size of wu zi (wuju fruit seeds). Take one hundred pills per dose, administered with Bilao Water. Stop when evil matter is expelled. Eat plain white porridge for ten days. Bilao Water is made by stirring water vigorously with a ladle one hundred times, then boiling it (also known as Ganlan Water).
[Qiongyu Gao] Treats dry cough due to Xu Lao, bloody taste in the throat, and dull pain in the intestines.
Xian Dihuang (Fresh Rehmanniae Radix, forty liang), Renshen (Ginseng Radix, separately ground into powder), Baifuling (White Poria, separately ground into powder, each ten liang), Chenxiang (Aquilaria Lignum), Hupo (Fossilia Subcorium, separately ground into powder, each half liang).
First, decoct the fresh Dihuang into a paste until it does not soak into paper. Add the powders of Renshen and Fuling, along with twenty liang of sugar crystals, stir evenly until melted. Remove from fire, then add Hupo and Chenxiang, mix well, and store in a porcelain jar. Take several spoonfuls with warm wine in the early morning before noon; boiling water is also acceptable.

Ground into fine powder, mixed with wine to form pills the size of wu zi. Take forty to fifty pills per dose, swallowed with warm wine on an empty stomach.
[Jisheng Lurong Wan] (When made as a decoction, named Shengliao Lurong Wan) Treats long-term deficiency of true Qi in the Kidneys, weakness and pain in the lower body, wheezing and coughing, and fluid retention transforming into phlegm.
Lurong (Deer Antler Bone, wine-roasted), Niuxi (Achyranthis Bidentatae Radix, salt-wine fried), Wuweizi (Schisandrae Fructus) (each two liang), Shihu (Dendrobii Caulis), Bajitourou (Morinda Officinalis Radix), Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata), Chuanleirou (Toosendan Fructus, wine-steamed), Shanyao (Dioscoreae Rhizoma), Rougui (Cinnamomi Cortex), Duzhong (Eucommiae Cortex, salt-wine fried), Zexie (Alismatis Rhizoma, salt-water fried) (each one liang), Chenxiang (Aquilaria Lignum, separately ground, five qian).
Ground into fine powder, mixed with wine paste to form pills the size of wu zi. Take seventy pills per dose, swallowed with warm wine in the early morning. Common versions also include Baiji (Spina Gleditsiae), Tusizi (Cuscutae Semen), Cishi (Magnetitum), and Yangqishi (Leucogypsum Fibrosum).
[Anshen Wan] Treats Kidney deficiency with wind invasion, causing weakness and pain in the lower body and inability to stand.
Rougui (Cinnamomi Cortex), Chuan Wutou (Aconiti Radix Praeparata, each one liang five qian), Bailili (Tribuli Fructus, fried, thorns removed), Bajitian (Morindae Officinalis Radix, bone removed), Shuyu (Dioscoreae Rhizoma, ginger juice fried), Fuling (Poria), Shihu (Dendrobii Caulis, wine-fried).
Chuanbixie (Smilacis Chinae Rhizoma, fried), Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma), Rongzong (Cynomorii Herba, wine-soaked and cleaned), Buguzhi (Psoraleae Fructus, fried) (each four liang eight qian).
Ground into fine powder, mixed with refined honey to form pills the size of wu zi. Take seventy pills per dose, swallowed with salt water on an empty stomach, and with warm wine before bed. Since the Kidneys are invaded by wind-cold, causing unrest, Wutou and Bailili are used to dispel wind and scatter cold. Once the wind is gone, the Kidneys settle naturally; warming and tonifying are not initially required. The other herbs (Gui, Ling, Zhu, Bixie, Buguzhi, Jixi, Rongzong, Shihu) although said to regulate Spleen and Kidney, actually focus on dispelling dampness and promoting urination. This is because excessive eating/drinking and sexual activity cause sweat to be sealed by wind, leading to heavy limbs. Without unblocking the water passages, the disease cannot be cured. This formula resembles Dihuang Yinzi but differs significantly from Cui Shi's Ba Wei Wan.
[Si Wuie Gu Yi Lu Ru Wan] (from *Suwen*) Treats qi exhaustion and liver injury, blood loss and depletion. Women with blood depletion and amenorrhea, men with impotence and essence injury.
Wuie Gu (Cutula Sepiae, four liang, i.e., Sepiae Endoconcha), Lu Ru (Qian Gen/Sappan Wood root? Text notes Ben Cao calls it Lu Ru, i.e., Qian Cao Gen/Radix Rubiae),
Formed into pills using quail eggs, size of small beans. Take five pills after meals, drink Abalone Juice. This benefits the intestines and heals liver injury. Formulas from *Neijing* are rare; only a few exist, often neglected. Errors in texts like *Jia Yi Jing* and *Tai Su* led to confusion about "Lu Ru," causing Wang Bing to misinterpret its nature. I have verified that both herbs move blood, hence used for qi exhaustion, liver injury, and blood depletion. Quail eggs and abalone juice are used to warm the Kidney and regulate the Liver using "sentient" substances, gradually resolving dry blood into yellow fluid. "After meals" means taking medicine before food to direct the action downward. Contraindicated in Yin deficiency with Yang hyperactivity, wheezing, hemoptysis, priapism, and spermatorrhea, as it is purely warming and dispersing without nourishing True Yin. Question: How can blood-moving herbs treat blood depletion? Answer: Blood depletion and amenorrhea are not purely deficiency; they involve dry blood accumulation due to qi exhaustion and liver injury, preventing Ying blood from storing. Symptoms like chest/flank distension, dizziness indicate blood stasis in the Liver; aversion to fishy smells indicates stasis in the Stomach; clear nasal discharge indicates Stomach Qi failure and turbid Qi rising. All these stem from Yang deficiency failing to transform fluids. Thus, clearing dry blood is paramount. Hence, *Jingui* uses Dahuang Zhechong Wan for similar presentations. Compared to Si Wuie Gu Yi Lu Ru Wan, Dahuang Zhechong Wan is far more potent in breaking stasis. Question: What if quail eggs are unavailable? Answer: Skill lies in adaptability. Quail meat or chicken eggs/liver can substitute. Chicken corresponds to Xun (Wind/Liver), and Liver governs blood. Flexibility is key.
[Huaroushi San] (from *Ju Fang*) Treats qi deficiency with blood coagulation, accumulation and obstruction causing chest/diaphragm pain. Use a heavy dose to exhaust the stasis.
Huaroushi (Flower Heart Stone, five liang, crushed, found in Liushan Mountain, resembles yellow stone with flower-like spots. Fake ones look like intricate flowers; real ones turn blood to water when placed on it), Liuhuang (Sulfur, two liang).
The above two ingredients are fused together in a crucible, sealed with salt mud, and calcined for one fu period (approx. 2 hours). Grind into powder. Take two qian after meals, mixed with child's urine. Also treats postpartum blood reversal, retained placenta, or fetal death in utero. After stasis turns to yellow fluid, administer Dushen Tang (Single Ginseng Decoction).
[Shihui San] Treats hematemesis and hemoptysis due to Xu Lao. Use this first to arrest bleeding.
Daji (Great Thistle Root), Xiaoji (Lesser Thistle Root), Boye (Thuja Leaf), Bohe (Mint Leaf), Qian Gen (Rubia Root), Maogen (Imperatae Rhizoma), Shanzhi (Gardeniae Fructus), Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma), Mudanpi (Moutan Cortex), Zonglupi (Livistona Petiole) (equal parts).
Each ingredient is burned to ash while retaining its nature, wrapped in paper, and buried overnight. Take two to three qian after meals, mixed with child's urine. Huaroushi San is a harsh blood-breaking agent; people fear it. Ge Kejiu stated it is suitable for sudden massive bleeding but not for chronic deficiency or Liver/Kidney blood issues. Combined with Shihui San without distinguishing cold/heat leads to misuse. Shihui San targets fire flaming upward; misusing it for yin-solidification is less harmful than misusing Huaroushi San for heat-induced bleeding, which is dangerous since heat bleeding is common (80-90%) while yin-solidification is rare (10-20%). Fear has led to neglect, leaving patients with yin-blood surges untreatable. Is this fate?
[Ruijin Dan] Treats Xu Lao with hematemesis and blood stasis.
Chuan Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma, mixed with wine, fried black until yellow smoke appears), Zhen Qiushi (True Autumn Stone) (each one liang).
Grind into fine powder, mix with boiled red date pulp to form pills the size of small beans. Take two qian on an empty stomach with Bohe Tang (Mint Decoction). For stasis in the Pericardium with palpitations, flushed face, and confusion, add Zhen Yujin (Curcumae Radix, three qian). For stasis in the Stomach with massive hematemesis, take with Xijiao Dihuang Tang.
[Tongzhen Wan] Treats Xu Lao with hematemesis and qi deficiency wheezing.
Zhen Qiushi (True Autumn Stone), Chuan Beimu (Fritillariae Cirrhosae Bulbus, heart removed) (equal parts).
Mix with boiled red date pulp to form pills. Take two qian on an empty stomach with Bohe Tang. If pulse is deficient and qi exhausted, add Renshen. If pulse is fine and rapid indicating Yin deficiency, do not use Renshen; add Mudanpi. For Spleen deficiency with loose stools, add Shanyao, Fuling, and Zhi Gancao.
[Gulu Erxian Gao] Treats deficiency of Du and Ren Mai, insufficient essence and blood.
Lujiao Jiao (Deer Antler Glue, one jin), Gui Ban Jiao (Tartar Testudinis Carapax et Plastrum Glue, half jin), Gouqi (Lycii Fructus, six liang), Renshen (Ginseng Radix, four liang, separately ground), Guiyuanrou (Longan Aril, six liang).
Decoct Gouqi and Guiyuan into a paste, collect with refined white honey. Soak the two glues in wine, melt into the Gouqi-Guiyuan paste. When fully dissolved, add Renshen powder. Store in a porcelain jar. Take five to six qian in the morning mixed with pure wine.
[Jujing Wan] Treats Kidney deficiency with insecure sealing and storage.
Biao Jiao (Fish Swim Bladder Glue, white, one jin, chopped, fried with clam powder or oyster powder until pearl-like, then mixed with milk/butter to prevent stickiness), Shayuan Jili (Astragali Complanati Semen, five liang, soaked in milk overnight, steamed over water for one incense time, dried, not fried).
Grind into fine powder. Add aged wine to refined white honey, boil again. When honey cools slightly, form pills. Do not pound hot, or it becomes sticky. Pills the size of mung beans. Take eighty to ninety pills on an empty stomach with warm wine or plain water. Avoid fish and beef. Zhang Jingyue added Wuweizi (two liang).
[Dabu Huangting Wan] Treats Xu Lao with poor appetite and loose stools, unsuitable for Yin-nourishing herbs.
Renshen (Ginseng Radix, one liang), Fuling (Poria, one liang), Shanyao (Dioscoreae Rhizoma, two liang).
Grind into powder. Use one fresh Ziheche (Human Placenta), two sheng of river water, and a little white honey. Decoct over water into a paste, use instead of honey to form pills. Take three qian on an empty stomach with light salt water.
[Xunshun Wan] Treats retrograde menstruation in women (blood flowing upwards), coughing/hemoptysis in men with wiry pulse at Left Guan/Chi positions, chills on the back, and blood stasis.
Wugu Baisimao Ji (Black-boned white-feathered hen, one, male female/female male, tender and long, urinated outwards, plucked, gutted with bamboo knife, viscera removed except gizzard lining, washed, returned to cavity), Wuie Gu (Cutula Sepiae, soaked in child's urine, dried, ground, lightly fried, four liang net), Lu Ru (Qian Cao Gen/Rubia Root, tips removed, wine-washed, sliced, one liang net), Baoyu (Abalone, sliced thin, four liang).
Place the three ingredients inside the chicken. Add aged wine, child's urine (two bowls each), and water. Simmer in a clay pot, adding liquid as needed until thick and dry. Pound and bake dry. Wuie Gu is roasted with butter. Mix all into fine powder, bind with Shanyao paste into wu zi-sized pills. Take fifty to seventy pills on an empty stomach with Bilao Water.
[Wugu Ji Wan] (from *Mizhi*) Treats women with depression, steaming fever, cough, irregular menstruation, amenorrhea, retrograde menstruation, postpartum consumption, metrorrhagia, leukorrhea. Also treats men with premature depletion, chronic cough with hemoptysis, and Xu Lao.
Wugu Baisimao Ji (One hen, prepared as in Xunshun Wan), Bei Wuwei (Schisandrae Fructus, one liang, crushed), Shudihuang (Prepared Rehmanniae Radix, four liang; add raw Dihuang two liang if heat).
Place in chicken belly, cook with aged wine, fermented rice wine, and child's urine in a clay pot as in Xunshun Wan.
Huangqi (Astragali Radix, peeled, honey-wine roasted), Yuzhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma, steamed nine times on rice) (each three liang), Baifuling (White Poria, peeled), Dangguishen (Angelicae Sinensis Radix, wine-washed), Baishaoyao (White Peony Root, wine-fried) (each two liang).
These five ingredients are pre-ground coarse, pounded with chicken meat, baked dry. Wuie Gu roasted with butter, ground fine. Add: Renshen (Ginseng Radix, three liang, up to six liang if very deficient), Mudanpi (Moutan Cortex, two liang, wine-cleaned, not fried), Chuanxiong (Chuanxiong Rhizome, one liang, soaked in child's urine, cut and dried).
These three are ground fine and mixed with previous powder. Bind with six liang Shanyao paste. Roll pills, dry, store in porcelain jar. Take three qian with Renshen soup or boiling water in the morning, two qian with pure wine at night. If stool is hard, use refined honey. For bone-steaming fever/chills, add Biejia (Trionycis Carapax, three liang), Yin Chaihu (Stellariae Radix), Gudupi (Lycii Cortex) (each one liang five qian). For amenorrhea, add Rougui (one liang). For metrorrhagia, double Shudihuang, add Ejiao (two liang). For retrograde menstruation, add Maimendong (two liang). For depression/distension, add Xiangfu (Cyperi Rhizoma, treated with child's urine, two liang), Chenxiang (half liang). For leukorrhea, add Chuanbixie (two liang), Sizhi Xiangfu (two liang), Qiai (Ai Ye, one liang). For Baiyin (white discharge), double Renshen, Huangqi, Fuling, Baizhu. Although ingredients are common, this formula is highly effective for regulating menstruation. Chicken enters Xun (Liver); black bone enters Kidney. It transforms Xun to Kan, harmonizing Jia/Gui (Liver/Kidney) and nourishing Chong/Ren Mai. Sun Simiao noted that sages use living creatures for critical cases. While humans value life over animals, compassion extends to all. These formulas are essential for Xu Lao; use only when necessary. Using them for profit harms benevolence.
[Xiaoyao San] (from *Ju Fang*) Treats Liver Qi depression, alternating chills/fever, cough, irregular menstruation.
Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix, fried 70%), Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma, steamed with honey water, one qian), Fuling (Poria, one qian), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, honey-fried, eight fen), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix, one qian), Baishao (White Peony Root, wine-fried, one qian five fen).
Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium, white pith removed, eight fen; use honey-processed for dry cough), Boheye (Menthae Haplocalycis Folium, five fen), Weijiang (Ginger, roasted, three slices).
Nine ingredients decocted in water. Take when half-hungry.
[Jiawei Xiaoyao San]
Xiaoyao San plus Mudanpi (one qian five fen), Chao Hei Shanzhi (Gardeniae Fructus, charcoal-fried, one qian). For Spleen deficiency with poor appetite/loose stools, remove Shanzhi, replace with Xiangfu. This formula derives from Bazhen Tang, removing Renshen (Qi-tonifying), Chuanxiong (ascending), and Dihuang (cloying), adding Chaihu, Chenpi, Bohe to soothe Liver Qi. Roasted Ginger maintains middle Jiao without dispersing too sharply. Danpi and Shanzhi clear upper and lower fire.
[Xionggui Xuyu San] Treats Transmitted Corpse Consumption (Chuan Shi Lao Zhai) with flushed face and five-palm heat.
Shinv Dingmeng Shengfa (Hair from virgin's crown, one tuft, washed, calcined), Chuanxiong (Chuanxiong Rhizome, soaked in child's urine, cut, five qian), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix, three qian), Muxiang (Aucklandiae Radix), Taoren (Persicae Semen, dehusked, each two qian).

Steam for three incense times until eels are thoroughly soft. Remove Bohe. Pound eels and Shanyao with bones, bake dry, grind to powder. Form pills with refined white honey. Take five qian with boiling water in the morning and evening.
