Use *Bai Kou* (Cardamomum Rotundum, White Cardamom) peeled and *Sha Ren* (Amomi Fructus, Amomum Fruit), each 14 grains, *Gan Cao* (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, Licorice Root) 4 qian, half raw and half honey-fried. Grind them together into an extremely fine powder and frequently sprinkle it into the infant's mouth.
Place *Bai Fan* (Alumen, Alum) and a chicken egg in vinegar, apply to the soles of the infant's feet, and it will heal spontaneously.
*Chi Shi Zhi* (Kaolinite, Red Halloysite) 3 qian, grind into a fine powder, and apply in three doses. Another prescription: Burn scorpions to ash and use dried alum (*Ku Fan*), each 3 qian, grind together into a powder, and use an appropriate amount each time.
Mix water-pulverized *Zhu Sha* (Cinnabar, Mercury Sulfide) with sow's milk, then apply a small amount of sow's milk to the infant's mouth.
*Zhe Shi* (Haematitum, Hematite) 2 qian, vinegar-processed; *Zhu Sha* (Cinnabar) 5 fen; *Pi Shuang* (Arsenic Trioxide, Arsenic); grind all together into a powder. Wrap in seven layers of paper, moisten, and roast until dry. Add *She Xiang* (Moschus, Musk) 1 fen, grind finely again, and mix with sesame oil. Apply to the tip of the nose, between the eyebrows, and on the limbs. This is highly effective. See the section on Malaria later for more details.
Shao Zhen Wan (Needle-Burning Pills): Water-pulverize *Huang Dan* (Lithargyrum, Lead Monoxide) and *Zhu Sha* (Cinnabar). Mix and form pills the size of soybeans. Use 3–4 pills per dose, place on the tip of a needle, heat red over a lamp flame while preserving the medicinal properties (cun xing), grind into powder, and administer mixed with cool rice wash water. Take before meals for diarrhea; take at any time for vomiting. Externally, mix egg white with true mung bean flour to make a paste. For vomiting, apply to the soles of both feet; for diarrhea, apply to the fontanelle. This is very effective. See the section on Diarrhea later for more details.
When the newborn has not yet cried, remove the dirty blood from the mouth. Wrap a finger in cotton, dip it in *Gan Cao Tang* (Licorice Decoction), and wipe clean the saliva in the mouth. Then observe the complexion. If the body and face are red and the lips are purple-red, it indicates the presence of fetal toxicity. Wait four to five hours, then use 1 qian of cooked *Da Huang* (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma, Rhubarb Root), 1 qian of *Jin Yin Hua* (Lonicerae Japonicae Flos, Honeysuckle Flower), and 1 qian of *Gan Cao* (Licorice Root). Steep in one cup of water to make a decoction. Wrap a finger in cloth, dip in the decoction, wash the mouth, and feed several tea spoons. Repeat this several times until the next day. When approaching one week of age, after the meconium is completely discharged, breast milk can be given. Daily, use light salt tea, dip a cloth in it, and wash the mouth four to five times to remove tongue coating and saliva, thereby preventing diseases such as Ma Ya (Epstein's Pearls), E Kou (Thrush), Chong She (Double Tongue), and Mu She (Wooden Tongue). If the newborn's face and lips are pale and translucent, simply use *Jin Yin Hua Gan Cao Tang* (Honeysuckle and Licorice Decoction) to wash the mouth and administer several times. Daily, washing once or twice with light ginger soup is sufficient. The infant's spirit is not yet settled; do not expose them to sudden cold or violent heat, do not allow exposure to sudden loud noises, do not show them strange objects, and do not administer medicine lightly. For any minor ailments, instruct the nursing mother to avoid greasy food, meat, and alcohol, so that the milk remains clear and harmonious, leading to spontaneous recovery within one or two days. Infants under one year old should only drink milk. After one year old, start with rice flour, then move to porridge and soft rice. Do not overfeed. Do not nurse immediately after eating, and do not eat immediately after nursing. Meat dishes should be introduced late; raw and hard foods should not be given hastily.
