Xia Yingbai stated: The Tianhe Shui (River Water) acupoint is located above the Neiguan (Inner Pass) point. First, pinch the Zongjin (Total Tendon) point, and pour fresh cold water over it. Then, from this point, push along with the flow of water towards the Hongchi (Red Pool) point until reaching Hongchi. The Hongchi point is located in the cubital fossa (elbow bend).
This method is called Qing Tianhe Shui (Clearing River Water), also known as Yin Shui Shang Tianhe (Guiding Water Up to the Heavenly River), and is used to treat all types of heat syndromes.
Tu Weisheng stated: The Hongchi point should correspond to the Quze (Pool at the Crook) point in acupuncture, because Quze belongs to the Pericardium Meridian of Hand-Jueyin, and its location is also in the elbow bend.
Xia Yingbai stated: After finishing the clockwise rotation of Laogong (Palace of Labor) on the right hand, flex the fingers and flick upward at several points including Neiguan, Yangchi (Yang Pool), Jianshi (Intersecting Vessel), and Tianhe to treat alternating chills and fever.
Xia Yingbai stated: The two ends of the transverse crease at the junction of the palm and forearm are the Yin and Yang points. The side near the little finger is the Yin point, and the side near the thumb is the Yang point. Dividing the crease into two equal parts with two fingers' width and stroking outwards from the center is called Fen Yin-Yang (Separating Yin and Yang). It treats alternating chills and fever, abdominal distension and enlargement, diarrhea, vomiting and regurgitation, and obstruction of the zang-fu organs.
Xia Yingbai stated: Using both thumbs to push together from the two ends of the Yin and Yang points towards the center can harmonize Qi and Blood.
Xia Yingbai stated: The first red tendon on the transverse crease at the junction of the palm and forearm, closer to the thumb, belongs to Fire, corresponding to the Heart and Small Intestine, and externally connects to the eyes. Pinching it treats Huoluan (Cholera-like syndrome) characterized by internal heat and external cold.
Tu Weisheng stated: Pinching the red tendon to treat Huoluan refers to Heat Huoluan; one should not underestimate this for Cold Huoluan (implying specific indication or caution).
Xia Yingbai stated: The second green tendon inside the red tendon belongs to Wood, corresponding to the Liver and Gallbladder, and externally connects to the eyes. Pinching it treats redness, dryness, and excessive tearing of the eyes.
Xia Yingbai stated: Zongjin, also known as Huangjin (Yellow Tendon), is the central tendon among the five tendons, belonging to Earth. It governs the Five Elements and corresponds to the Spleen and Stomach. Pinching it treats intestinal borborygmus, and Huoluan with vomiting and diarrhea.
Tu Weisheng stated: Pinching Zongjin to treat Huoluan with vomiting and diarrhea applies to Cold Huoluan; it should not be lightly used for Heat Huoluan.
Xia Yingbai stated: The fourth white tendon next to Zongjin belongs to Metal, corresponding to the Lungs and Large Intestine, and externally connects to the nostrils. It is indicated for chest and abdominal fullness, dizziness, and phlegm production.
Xia Yingbai stated: The fifth black tendon next to the little finger belongs to Water, corresponding to the Kidneys and Bladder, and externally connects to the ears. It is indicated for emaciation, drowsiness, and dizziness.
