Treatment of heatstroke with Yuhu Wan (Jade Pot Pill).
Bo Shang Liu Huang (Sulfur imported from overseas), Yan Xiao (Saltpeter), Hua Shi (Talcum), Bai Fan (Alum) (each 1 liang).
The above four herbs are pounded and sieved into fine powder. Add 6 liang of premium white flour, mix evenly. Use freshly drawn cold water to form pills the size of *Cercis chinensis* seeds. Take 20 pills per dose, swallowed with freshly drawn cold water. In cases of severe confusion and impending death, administer a paste mixed with water; the patient will revive immediately, with miraculous efficacy.
Shilin's "Bishu Lu" (Records of Summer Retreat) states that he personally cured a servant of the Imperial Horse Office, and mentions that Shen Cunzhong once wrote about this method:
Dao Shang Re Tu (Hot soil from roads), Da Suan (Garlic).
Use approximately equal amounts. Pound and grind thoroughly. Mix with cold water, strain off the dregs, and drink. The illness will heal immediately. This prescription was posted in calligraphy on the city gate of Pei County, Xuzhou, by an unknown person.
Chuan Bai Yao (Decoction yielding 3 liang of liquid), Ren Shen (Ginseng Root) (weighing 3 qian), Gan Cao (Licorice Root), Mai Men Dong (Ophiopogon Tuber), Wu Mei Rou (Mume Fruit Flesh), Bai Mei Rou (White Mume Fruit Flesh), Gan Ge (Kudzu Root) (the above each 0.5 liang).
Grind the above into fine powder. Form pills using wheat paste, sized like *Euryale ferox* seeds. Take one pill per dose, dissolve in the mouth. When traveling in summer, one pill suffices for a day.
Diyu San (Sanguisorba Powder) for treating heatstroke coma, loss of consciousness, and impending death; also treats bloody dysentery. Passed down by Huagongshi.
Di Yu (Sanguisorba Root), Chi Shao Yao (Red Peony Root), Huang Lian (Coptis Rhizome) (remove roots), Qing Pi (Citrus Peel) (remove albedo).
Divide the above equally, grind into fine powder. Take 3 qian per dose, mixed with Jiang Shui (fermented rice water). If unavailable, freshly drawn cold water may be used. For bloody dysentery, use one zhan of water, decoct until reduced to 7/10, strain, and take warm.
Heart diseases, Spleen diseases.
Xiang Fu San (Cyperi Rhizoma Powder) for unbearable pain of the heart and spleen.
Gao Liang Jiang (Galangal Rhizome) (remove rhizome base, stir-fry), Xiang Fu Zi (Cyperi Rhizoma) (remove hairs, stir-fry) (each 1 liang).
Grind into powder. Take 2 qian per dose, add salt, and mix with Mi Yin (rice beverage). Wu Neihan obtained this prescription in the Renyin year of Xuanhe era, prepared it, and boarded a boat the next day. The boatman's wife suffered from severe heart pain and was near death. Wu administered half a bowl, and she recovered immediately. Both ingredients must be stir-fried separately; if stir-fried together, efficacy is lost.
Treats nausea due to alcohol intoxication, and disorders such as vomiting and regurgitation caused by heart and spleen diseases.
Sheng Jiang (Fresh Ginger Rhizome) (1 jin, peeled, sliced, marinated overnight with 1 liang of green salt, then dried/baked), Gan Cao (Licorice Root) (1.5 liang, honey-fried), Chen Pi (Aged Citrus Peel) (1 liang).
Grind into fine powder. Mix with refined honey, pound and beat for a thousand times. Form pills the size of cherries. Take one pill per dose, chew thoroughly, and swallow with salted water. Time is not restricted; alternatively, it can be dissolved in the mouth on an empty stomach.
