Shugan Dihuang (Rehmanniae Radix Praeparata, soak/wash, pill-making method: steam 9 times, sun-dry 9 times is best), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix, slice, remove root neck, cut, lightly stir-fry), Baishaoyao (Paeoniae Radix Alba), Chuanxiong (Chuanxiong Rhizoma), each 1 liang. Grind into coarse powder. Take 3 qian, add 1.5 sheng of water, decoct to 80%, strain, take on empty stomach before meals. For blood stasis and abdominal Qi/Blood pain, add Ezhu (Curcumae Rhizoma) and Guanzi Gui (Cinnamomi Ramulus), name Liuhe Tang (Six Harmonies Decoction). Another formula uses Dihuang... blood cannot stop pain, better to use only 5 ingredients. For unbearable heart/abdominal pain in women, remove Dihuang, add Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma), name Sishen Tang (Four Spirits Decoction). Treats continuous lower bleeding and fetal unrest in pregnancy, add 10 leaves of Ai (Artemisiae Argyi Folium), one piece of Ejiao (Colla Corii Asini), decoct together. Or add cooked Ai, Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), Ejiao (Colla Corii Asini), Huangqi (Astragali Radix), etc., name Jiao Ai Tang (Colla Corii Asini and Artemisia Decoction). Postpartum blood collision causing dry mouth/vexation-thirst, add Gualou (Trichosanthis Radix) and Maimendong (Ophiopogonis Tuber). Hypochondriac fullness, add Houpo (Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex) and Zhishi (Aurantii Fructus Immaturus). Deficiency vexation insomnia, add Zhuye (Phyllostachys Folium) and Renshen (Ginseng Radix). Severe thirst/vexation, add Zhimu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma) and Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum), decoct together. Yi Jian Fang corrects errors saying: Siwu Tang is a key medicine for women. Now people don't understand its essence, speaking wildly. Also due to merchants not following method to process Dihuang with wine, steaming 9 times and drying 9 times. Raw is neutral and dispersing. Cooked is warm and tonifying. If steaming/drying count is sufficient, success is certain. Zheng Yi Jian Fang actually uses Danggui, Chuanxiong, Shaoyao, Renshen, Ganjiang, Gancao in equal parts. Take 4 qian each time, add 1 sheng of water, decoct to 60%, take warm. Name Zengsun Siwu Tang (Increased/Reduced Four Substances Decoction). Treats women with Qi and Blood deficiency. Limb lethargy. Fatigue and shortness of breath.
