The condition known as Shuigu Li (Water and Grain Dysentery) arises from a weak constitution with open Couli (skin texture and pores), deficient Qi and Blood, and injury by Wind in spring. The pathogenic factor lingers within the muscles. Later, encountering deficiency and weakness of the Spleen, Stomach, and Large Intestine, the pathogen takes advantage to invade, thus causing Shuigu Li. The Spleen and Stomach are exterior-interior partners; the Stomach is the Fu organ of the Spleen and serves as the Sea of Water and Grain. The Spleen is the Zang organ of the Stomach, its signs manifesting in the body's muscles, and its function primarily involves digesting water and grain. Once digested, the essence transforms into Ying Qi (Nutritive Qi) and Wei Qi (Defensive Qi) to nourish the Zang-Fu organs and fill the muscles. The Large Intestine is the Fu organ of the Lung, acting as the official of transmission, expelling waste. The essence of water and grain transforms into Blood and Qi, circulating in the meridians, while the dregs circulate in the Large Intestine. The Lung and Large Intestine are exterior-interior partners; the Lung governs Qi, and its signs manifest in the body's skin and hair. In spring, although Yang Qi floats on the surface, internal Qi and Blood remain weak. If diet and lifestyle are improper, or if physical labor and exertion are excessive, leading to Qi and Blood deficiency, one becomes injured by Wind pathogen, which lodges between the muscles. Subsequently, due to Spleen-Stomach Qi deficiency, the Wind pathogen enters the intestines and stomach vacuously. Those with weak Spleen Qi cannot control water and grain, so the dregs do not consolidate but transform into dysentery. Additionally, contracting Wind immediately after eating is called "Stomach Qi" disease. Its symptoms include aversion to wind, profuse sweating on the head, blockage below the diaphragm, inability to swallow food, abdominal distension with emaciation, worsened distension after eating, and Dongxie (profuse watery diarrhea) after consuming cold foods. Dongxie refers to dysentery with no limit (extreme frequency). If Stomach Qi exhausts and dysentery ceases abruptly, death ensues. Diagnosis: Pulse small, cold hands and feet indicate difficult treatment; pulse large, warm hands and feet indicate easy treatment. Discharging white foam: pulse deep indicates survival, floating indicates death. Body not hot, pulse not Xuanjue (extremely abnormal), slippery and large indicates survival, Xuanjue indicates death. Prognosis is determined by the cycle of the Zang organs. Pulse absent with cold hands and feet: if pulse returns and hands/feet warm, survival; if pulse does not return, death. Pulse slow with occasional smallness indicates survival; surging, large, and rapid indicates death. Xuanjue and choppy indicates death; fine, minute, and choppy indicates survival; tight, large, and slippery indicates death. Obtaining Da Jue Mai (Great Absent Pulse) does not necessarily mean death.
