药材：青葙子、五味子、地骨皮、菟丝子（用酒浸泡后单独捣碎成末）、生干地黄（焙干）、决明子（炒制）、葶苈子（炒制）、黄芩、泽泻。（原文此处文字残缺，仅保留可见药名）

药材：旋复花、升麻、秦艽（去苗土）、羚羊角（镑片）、防风（去叉）、葳蕤（各一两）、黄连（去须）、柴胡（各若干）。
用法：上药为散，每服三钱，水一盏半，煎至一盏，温服。
夜光丸（出自《卫生宝鉴》）
治疗赤眼，翳膜遮蔽导致视物昏花。
药材：宣连、诃子（去瓤，各二两）、当归（一两）、铜绿（二钱）。以上四味药切碎。用河水三升，同煮浸两昼夜。武火煎煮，取汁。
另法：猪肚子（二个，先去脂，用禾稗叶梢在水中搓洗换水多次直至干净，细切），入黄连膏内煮至黑色，取出。
用法：将处理好的猪肚与药末混合，加入青盐少许，小便浸渍，晒干为丸。
马牙硝点眼方（出自《圣济总录》）
治疗赤眼涩痛，翳障侵入睛珠，碜痛不适。
药材：马牙硝（半两）、蕤仁（去皮研七粒）、杏仁（去皮尖双仁炒制研三七枚）、乌贼鱼骨（去甲研半两）、珍珠（十粒，泥裹煨）。
用法：上药为末，点眼。
栀子汤 治疗赤眼涩痛。
药材：栀子仁、黄连（去须半两）、黄芩（去黑心半两）、枳壳（麸炒三分）、龙胆（一两）、甘草（炙三钱）。
用法：上药为散，水煎，去滓，食后温服。
葳蕤汤（出自《圣惠方》）
治疗赤眼疼痛，见光不得，并伴有湿痒。
药材：葳蕤、黄连（去须）、秦皮（去粗皮）、决明子（炒制，各一两半）、菊花、防风（去叉）、栀子仁、甘草（炙）。
用法：上药为散，水煎，温服。

治疗赤眼疼痛。

治疗肝脏热极，眼睛红肿涩痛，泪出不止，风湿瘙痒，心膈壅滞，头目常疼。
药材：石决明（一两细研水飞过）、黄连（去须）、玄参、地骨皮、防风（去芦）、栀子仁、子芩、独活、子葳蕤、沙参（去芦）、蕤仁（浸去赤皮）、川大黄（微炒）、茺蔚子（各三分）。
用法：上药为末，炼蜜和捣，制成丸剂。

治疗眼睛红肿疼痛。
药材：槐皮（二两）、秦皮（一两）、黄连（半两）、淡竹叶（一握）、蕤仁（一两，浸洗去赤皮）、栀仁（半两）。
用法：上药以水三大盏，入古字铜钱十四文，煎至二盏，去滓。每暖三合洗眼，日三次。宜避风。
竹叶汤 治疗眼睛红肿疼痛。
药材：淡竹叶（洗净三握）、黄连（一两）、青钱（二七文）、大枣（十枚去核）、车前子（切五合）。
用法：上药同煎，温服。
黄芩汤 治疗热毒攻眼，小眦偏赤，疼痛不可忍受。

用法：上药锉如麻豆大小，每服五钱，水煎，温服。
胡黄连散（出自《宣明论》）
治疗不论久新，赤目疼痛，不能坐卧。并治大人小儿口疮。
药材：胡黄连、槟榔（各半两）、麝香（少许别研）。
用法：上为细末点之。如口疮，每服半钱，加麝香一字。
鱼胆贴眼膏（出自《圣惠方》）
治疗眼睛红肿疼痛。
药材：鲤鱼胆（一枚）、黄连（半两去须）、川大黄（半两）。
用法：上鱼胆汁和调末药，以瓷瓶盛之，于饭上蒸熟。

Yeguang Wan (Night-Glowing Pill) (from *Weisheng Baojian*)
Treats red eyes and blurred vision due to nebulae.

Usage: Mix the processed pig stomach with the herb powder, add a small amount of Qingyan (rock salt), soak in child's urine, dry, and make into pills.
Shimi Jian (Rock Sugar Decoction) Drip into eyes. Treats red eyes.

Usage: The above herbs with three large cups of water and fourteen ancient copper coins are decocted to two cups, remove dregs. Warm three he per dose to wash eyes, three times a day. Avoid wind.
Huanglian Gao (Coptis Paste) (from *Shenghui Fang*)
Treats persistent red eye pain.
Zhuye Tang (Bamboo Leaf Decoction) Treats redness and pain in the eyes.
Herbs: Dan Zhuye (*Lophatheri Herba* [washed, three handfuls]), Huanglian (*Coptidis Rhizoma* [1 liang]), Qingqian (*Green Copper Coins* [14 coins]), Dazao (*Jujubae Fructus* [10 pieces, remove pits]), Cheqianzi (*Plantaginis Semen* [cut 5 he]).
Usage: The above herbs are decocted together, and taken warm.
Huangqin Tang (Scutellaria Decoction) Treats heat-toxin attacking the eyes, redness in the inner canthus, and unbearable pain.
Herbs: Huangqin (*Scutellariae Radix* [remove black heart]), Zhike (*Aurantii Fructus* [1 liang, remove pulp and bran-fried]), Weirui (*Polygonati Rhizoma*), Mutong (*Akebiae Caulis*), Gancao (*Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma* [roasted, each 1.5 liang]).
Usage: The above herbs are cut like hemp seeds, take 5 qian per dose, decoct with water, and take warm.
Huhuanglian San (Picrorhiza Powder) (from *Xuanming Lun*)
Treats red eye pain of any duration, unable to sit or lie down. Also treats mouth ulcers in adults and children.
Herbs: Huhuanglian (*Picrorhizae Rhizoma*), Binglang (*Arecae Semen* [each 0.5 liang]), Shexiang (*Moschus* [a little, pound separately]).
Usage: The above are made into fine powder and applied. For mouth ulcers, take 0.5 qian per dose, add one character of Shexiang.
Yudan Tie Yan Gao (Fish Gallbladder Eye-Pasting Paste) (from *Shenghui Fang*)
Treats redness and pain in the eyes.
Herbs: Liyu Dan (*Cyprini Carpio Vis* [one piece]), Huanglian (*Coptidis Rhizoma* [0.5 liang, remove stamens]), Chuandahuang (*Rhei Radix et Rhizoma* [0.5 liang]).
Usage: Mix the fish gallbladder juice with the herb powder, store in a porcelain bottle, and steam on rice.
Dilong Fen Bingzi (Earthworm Excrement Cake) (from *Shenghui Fang*)
Treats redness and pain in the eyes.

Treats Heart anxiety and stagnation-heat, red eyes, and dry mouth.
Herbs: Shigao (*Gypsum Fibrosum* [crushed]), Gan Juhua (*Chrysanthemi Flos*), Qianghuo (*Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix* [remove rhizome head]), Baifuzi (*Aconiti Kusnezoffii Radix* [pounded]), Baijiangcan (*Bombyx Batryticatus* [stir-fried]), Xuanshen (*Scrophulariae Radix*), Huanglian (*Coptidis Rhizoma* [remove stamens]).
Usage: Equal parts, make into powder, decoct with water, and take warm.
Liao Yan Chi Fang (Formula for Treating Red Eyes)
Herbs: Ruiren (*Pruni Semen*), Huangqin (*Scutellariae Radix*), Zhizi Ren (*Gardeniae Semen*), Huanglian (*Coptidis Rhizoma*), Qinpi (*Fraxini Cortex* [each 2 liang]), Zhuye (*Phyllostachys Viridis Folium* [cut 1 sheng]).

Herbs: Qianhu (*Peucedani Radix*), Fangfeng (*Saposhnikoviae Radix*), Juemingzi (*Cassiae Semen*), Huanglian (*Coptidis Rhizoma*), Ruiren (*Pruni Semen* [each 2 liang]), Zhuye (*Phyllostachys Viridis Folium* [cut 1 sheng]).
Usage: Cut the above herbs, add 6 sheng of water, decoct to obtain 2 sheng, and take warm.
Zhuye Tang (Bamboo Leaf Decoction)
Herbs: Zhuye (*Phyllostachys Viridis Folium* [one handful]), Xijiao Xie (*Rhinocerotis Cornu* [shavings]), Shengma (*Cimicifugae Rhizoma*), Gan Ge (*Puerariae Radix* [each 2 liang]), Huangqin (*Scutellariae Radix*), Maimendong (*Ophiopogonis Radix* [remove heart, each 3 liang]).
Usage: Cut the above herbs, add 6 sheng of water, decoct to obtain 2 sheng, and take warm.
Tongge Qi Tang (Cardamine Decoction)
Treats red eye pain and sore swelling.
Herbs: Qi (*Cardamine Hirsuta* [4 liang]), Shigao (*Gypsum Fibrosum*), Digupi (*Lycii Cortex*), Gancao (*Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma* [slightly roasted, each 2 liang]), Gegen (*Puerariae Radix* [cut 3 liang]), Huangqin (*Scutellariae Radix* [remove black heart 1 liang]).
Usage: Coarsely crush and sieve, take 5 qian per dose, decoct with water, and take warm.
Huang Tang Treats heat-toxin attacking the eyes, darkness and general redness.
Herbs: Huang (*Rhizoma Coptidis* [cut]), Shaoyao (*Paeoniae Radix*), Zhimu (*Anemarrhenae Rhizoma*), Shengma (*Cimicifugae Rhizoma* [each 1.5 liang]), Xijiao (*Rhinocerotis Cornu* [shaved 1.5 liang]), Ku Zhuye (*Bitter Bamboo Leaf* [50 pieces]).
Usage: Cut like hemp seeds, decoct with water, and take warm.
Xi Lun San (Eyelid Washing Powder) (from *Wangshi Boji Fang*)
Treats wind-toxin invasion, red and painful eyes, greatly reduces nebulae, removes granulation tissue, and washes away wind-sand, iron filings, and magnetic powder.
Herbs: Xianlingpi (*Epimedii Folium* [remove stems]), Qinpi (*Fraxini Cortex* [remove rough bark]), Huanglian (*Coptidis Rhizoma* [remove stamens]), Huaihua (*Sophorae Flos* [stir-fried, equal parts]), Sheng Xi (*Fresh Rhinoceros Horn* [shaved a little]).

Gouqi Jian (Goji Berry Decoction) (from *Shenghui Fang*)
Treats red eye pain, unceasing pain day and night.

Usage: Make into powder, use 1 qian per dose, mix with water and honey to form a paste, spread on silk and apply.
Zhi Chi Yan Fang (Formula for Treating Red Eyes) (from *Rumen Shiqin*)
Herbs: Tonglü (*Vermilapis*), Qingfen (*Calomel*), Yaxiao (*Natrii Sulfas*), Shexiang (*Moschus* [equal parts]), Naobo (*Borneolum Syntheticum* [a little]).
Usage: Pound into fine powder, apply dry.
Jie Chi Yan Fang (Formula for Cutting Red Eyes) (from *Rumen Shiqin*)
Herbs: Huanglian (*Coptidis Rhizoma*), Lüfan (*Vitriolum* [green]), Xingren (*Armeniacae Semen Amarum*), Gancao (*Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma*), Tonglü (*Vermilapis* [equal parts]).

Guangming San (Brightening Powder) (from *Haishang Fang*)
Treats red eyes.
Herbs: Huanglian (*Coptidis Rhizoma* [1 liang]), Danggui (*Angelicae Sinensis Radix* [1 fen]), Dan Zhuye (*Lophatheri Herba* [30 leaves]), Chi Shaoyao (*Paeoniae Radix Rubra* [2 qian]), Chi Zao (*Red Jujube* [5 pieces]).
Usage: Make into coarse powder, divide into three doses, decoct with water, and take warm.
Yan Fang (Verified Formula)
Zao Lian Gao (Date and Coptis Paste) Treats red eyes with unbearable pain day and night.
Herbs: Zao (*Jujubae Fructus* [5 pieces]), Huanglian (*Coptidis Rhizoma*), Baifan (*Alumen* [a little]), Gancao (*Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma*), Rushiang (*Olibanum* [a little]).
Usage: Decoct the above ingredients into a paste, drip into the eyes, effective. One version lacks Gancao.
Chi Yan Fang (Red Eye Formula)
Take real pearl (*Zhenzhu*) and Huanglian (*Coptidis Rhizoma*), pound into fine powder, place in a snail shell. After a moment, juice comes out. Take the juice and drip into the eyes for cure. For chronic internal cataracts, add Cheqianzi (*Plantaginis Semen*) and Gan Dihuang (*Rehmanniae Radix Praeparata*).
Yan Shao Chi Yao (Medicine for Red Eye Corners) (from *Jisheng Bacui Fang*)
Herbs: Huanglian (*Coptidis Rhizoma* [3 qian]), Baifan (*Alumen* [3 qian, water-washed]), Tonglü (*Vermilapis* [0.5 qian]), Mituoseng (*Lithargyrum* [1 qian]), Qingfen (*Calomel* [a little]).
Usage: Pound into extremely fine powder, add a little water to mix, and drip into the eyes.
Dahuang Wan (Rhubarb Pill) Treats upper jiao accumulated heat, redness, soreness, and pain in the eyes.
Herbs: Chuandahuang (*Rhei Radix et Rhizoma* [cut, crush, slightly stir-fried]), Zhizi Ren (*Gardeniae Semen* [5 liang]), Qi (*Cardamine Hirsuta* [5 liang]), Gegen (*Puerariae Radix* [cut 1 liang]).

Usage: Coarsely crush and sieve, take 5 qian per dose, add 1.5 cups of water, decoct to 1 cup, and take warm.
Cangzhu San (Atractylodes Powder) (from *Shengji Zonglu*)
Treats red eye pain.
Herbs: Cangzhu (*Atractylodis Rhizoma* [1 liang]), Chantui (*Cryptotympanae Periostracum*), Muze (*Equiseti Hiemalis Herba* [cut]), Huangqin (*Scutellariae Radix* [remove black heart, each 0.5 liang]).
Usage: Pound raw into powder, take 1 qian per dose, mix with fresh drawn water.
Zhuye Jian (Bamboo Leaf Decoction) (from *Shenghui Fang*)
Treats red eye pain.
Herbs: Zhuye (*Phyllostachys Viridis Folium* [cleanly cut 2 handfuls]), Dazao (*Jujubae Fructus* [split 5 pieces]), Guwen Tongqian (*Ancient Character Copper Coins* [7 pieces]), Huanglian (*Coptidis Rhizoma* [remove stamens, pound 0.5 liang]).
Usage: Mix together, put in copper/stone vessel, decoct with water, take three times a day.
Zhi Mu Chi Tong (Treating Red Eye Pain) (from *Qianjin Fang*)
Herbs: Xionghuang (*Realgar*), Xixin (*Asari Radix et Rhizoma*), Huanglian (*Coptidis Rhizoma*), Jiang (*Zingiberis Rhizoma干燥* [each 2 qian]).
Usage: Mix and treat into powder, wrap in cotton around the shaft of a hairpin, moisten with saliva, press the powder end into the nasal opening.
Another Formula (from *Qianjin Fang*)
Herbs: Xionghuang (*Realgar*), Jiang (*Zingiberis Rhizoma干燥*), Huanglian (*Coptidis Rhizoma*), Fanshi (*Alumen* [each 6 zhu]).
Usage: Mix and treat as above. Another version adds Xixin (*Asari Radix et Rhizoma*) 6 zhu.
Tongnao San (Brain-Unblocking Powder) (from *Yuyao Yuan Fang*)
Treats red eyes and brain heat.
Herbs: Hanshuishi (*Hydrocalcitis* [burned red, washed, finely pounded 2 qian]), Naobo (*Borneolum Syntheticum* [finely pounded 1 qian]), Nan Pengsha (*Borax* [separately finely pounded 0.5 qian]).
Usage: Place together, pound uniformly and extremely finely, blow into nose or drip into eyes.
Bingchi San (Ice Pool Powder) (from *Yuyao Yuan Fang*)
Herbs: Heidou (*Sojae Semen Nigrum* [stir-fry, remove skin, make into fine powder]), Mayaxiao (*Natrii Sulfas* [pounded]), Qingdai (*Indigo Naturalis* [pounded, each 1 liang]), Naobo (*Borneolum Syntheticum* [pounded 1 qian, a little]).
Usage: Make into fine powder like dust, drip into eyes.
Tie Yan Fang (Eye-Pasting Formula) (from *Rumen Shiqin*)
Herbs: Luganshi (*Calamina*), Mituoseng (*Lithargyrum* [1 liang]), Huanglian (*Coptidis Rhizoma* [2 liang]), Puxiao (*Natrii Sulfas* [0.5 liang]).
Usage: First decoct Huanglian (*Coptidis Rhizoma*) in water to make juice, add Tongbian (*Child's Urine*), make into powder, and paste on eyes.
Sisheng San (Four Saints Powder) Treats red eyes.
Herbs: Danggui (*Angelicae Sinensis Radix* [1 liang]), Shaoyao (*Paeoniae Radix* [2 liang]), Huanglian (*Coptidis Rhizoma* [3 liang]), Gancao (*Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma* [4 liang]).
Usage: Make into powder, decoct with water to wash eyes, and take orally.
Ku Zhuye Zhou (Bitter Bamboo Leaf Porridge) Treats Liver and Diaphragm wind-heat, red eye pain, inability to see.
Herbs: Jingsmi (*Oryzae Fructus Glutinosis* [3 he]), Shigao (*Gypsum Fibrosum* [0.5 liang]), Shatang (*Saccharum* [3 fen]), Ku Zhuye (*Bitter Bamboo Leaf* [one handful, cut finely]).
Usage: Add one bowl of water, decoct Shigao (*Gypsum Fibrosum*) and Zhu Ye (*Phyllostachys Viridis Folium*) for ten minutes, remove dregs, add rice and cook porridge, eat.
Danggui San (Angelica Powder) (from *Shengji Zonglu*)
Treats redness and soreness of eyes, nebulae covering vision, frequent hot tears.
Herbs: Qingfen (*Calomel* [1 fen]), Danggui (*Angelicae Sinensis Radix* [cut and roast 1 fen]), Fangji (*Stephaniae Tetrandrae Radix*), Longdan (*Gentianae Radix* [each 0.5 liang]).
Usage: Make into powder, take 1 qian per dose, mix with warm water, take after meals.
Huanglian Gao Jian (Coptis Paste Decoction, also known as Jie Chi Yan, from *Shengji Zonglu*)

Usage: Add 1.5 cups of water, decoct in silver/copper vessel, wait outside method.
Huanglian Wan (Coptis Pill) (from *Shengji Zonglu*)
Treats Liver heat, redness and pain in the eyes.
Herbs: Huanglian (*Coptidis Rhizoma* [1 jin, remove stamens, wash with water, cut finely, soak in 2 sheng of water for five nights, filter through cloth, discard residue, decoct into paste in silver/copper vessel]), Naobo (*Borneolum Syntheticum* [1 qian]), Pengsha (*Borax* [a little]).
Usage: Mix the above herbs evenly, form into pills the size of tung tree seeds, take 20 pills per dose with warm water.
Xi Yan Tang (Eye-Washing Decoction) (from *Qianjin Fang*)
Treats red eye pain.
Herbs: Gan Zhuye (*Sweet Bamboo Leaf* [14 leaves]), Wumei (*Mume Fructus*), Guqian (*Ancient Coins* [each 3 pieces]).
Usage: Add 2 sheng of water, soak herbs for half a day, boil over stove facing east for three boils, three ups and three downs, wash eyes.
Zhi Yan Chi An Fang and Ming Mu (Formula for Treating Red/Dark Eyes and Brightening Vision) (from *Qianjin Fang*)
Herbs: Gu Qingqian (*Ancient Green Coins* [3 pieces]), Qingyan (*Rock Salt* [1 liang 6 zhu]), Xingren (*Armeniacae Semen Amarum* [take kernels when apricots are not ripe, pound into juice 1 he]).
Usage: Combine the above three ingredients in a vessel, seal the top, mix into paste.
Tonghe Gao (also known as Tongli Gao, from *Longmu Lun*)
Treats redness and soreness of eyes, nebulae covering vision, frequent hot tears.
Herbs: Qingfen (*Calomel* [1 fen]), Rushiang (*Olibanum* [size of soap bean]), Xingren (*Armeniacae Semen Amarum* [21 pieces, only remove skin and tip, chew finely]).
Usage: Put into mouth and chew thoroughly, pass through saliva, drip into eyes.
Zhizi Tang (also known as Sanhuang Tang, from *Cunren Fang*)
Treats red eye pain, also treats flying blood and red veins.
Herbs: Huanglian (*Coptidis Rhizoma*), Huangbai (*Phellodendri Cortex*), Shanzhizi (*Gardeniae Fructus* [equal parts]).
Usage: Make into powder, males use male breast milk to pill, females use female breast milk to pill, size of chicken head, dry. Swallow before bed.
Decoct to 7 he, remove dregs, wash hot.
Zhentou Wan (Needle Head Pill) (from *Shenghui Fang*)
Treats various types of red eyes in men, women, unmarried women, and children, with unbearable pain.
Herbs: Chuanwu Jian (*Aconiti Radix Lateralis Preparata* [seven tips, remove bad ones and dry]), Baijiangcan (*Bombyx Batryticatus* [seven, remove spines/silk/bad ones and dry]), Pengsha (*Borax* [ten pieces]).
Usage: Make into powder, mix with juice from pig gallbladder, dry in summer shade, form into pills the size of tung tree seeds, take 5 pills per dose with warm water.
Medicine Paste
Maihuang Tang (Wheat and Barley Decoction) Treats hot red eye pain.
Herbs: Cheqianzi (*Plantaginis Semen*), Maimendong (*Ophiopogonis Radix* [remove heart]), Sheng Dihuang (*Rehmanniae Radix Recens* [wash and dry, equal parts]).
Usage: Cut, take 3 qian per dose, add new water and honey, decoct together, take after meals. Additions.
Xinglian Tang (also known as Huanglian Tang)
Treats Fire Eye.
Zhuye Yin (Bamboo Leaf Drink) Treats hot red eyes and headache.
Herbs: Zhuye (*Phyllostachys Viridis Folium* [one handful, cut]), Mai (*Hordei Fructus* [1 sheng, rinse]), Diguo Bapi (*Lycii Cortex* [3 fen, cut]).
Usage: Add 5 sheng of water, decoct to obtain 2 sheng, stop when wheat is rotten, take after meals.
Zhi Yan Teng Fang (Formula for Treating Eye Pain)
Use a little Huanglian (*Coptidis Rhizoma*), one Xingren (*Armeniacae Semen Amarum*), a little Ru (*Breast Milk*), pound finely, decoct together, and drip.
Ruzhi Jian (Breast Milk Decoction) (from *Shenghui Fang*)
Treats Liver heat red eye pain.
Herbs: Ren Ruzhi (*Human Breast Milk* [0.5 he]), Guwen Tongqian (*Ancient Character Copper Coins* [10 coins]).
Usage: Use breast milk, rub coins in copper vessel until color changes, stop when thick enough to form a paste, put into eyes.
Zhi Mu Chi Ji Yi Fang (Formula for Treating Red Eyes and Nebulae) (from *Qianjin Fang*)
Herbs: Guqian (*Ancient Coin* [one piece]), Yan (*Salt* [square inch scoop]).
Usage: Mix and treat without sieving, apply to the eye.
Another Formula (from *Qianjin Fang*)
Herbs: Wuzeigu (*Sepiae Endoconcha*), Qiandan (*Minii Oxidum Rubrum* [equal parts]).
Usage: Pound finely together, mix with white honey like mud, steam for half a meal time, cool, and apply to the four corners of the eyes.
Zhi Yan Chi Tong (also known as Qinghuang Tang, from *Haishang Fang*)
Herbs: Dongqing Ye (*Ilicis Cornutae Folium*), Huanglian (*Coptidis Rhizoma*).
Usage: Take a little of each, decoct into thick soup, add a little Puxiao (*Natrii Sulfas*), wash eyes, very wonderful.
Taiqing San (Supreme Purity Powder) (from *Haishang Fang*)
Treats sudden wind and guest-heat red eyes and eye pain.
Herbs: Tongqing (*Vermilapis* [0.5 liang, pound separately]), Jiang Fenmo (*Ginger Powder* [made in December by washing ginger, chopping, pounding in sand mortar, rubbing through new hemp cloth, taking powder, drying in shade, making into powder]).
Usage: Make into powder, drip into eyes.
