The mother of Professor Song Mingyuan, aged seventy-four, suffered from a disease similar to the above symptoms due to being startled by war horses. Taking these two formulas yielded effective results.
Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma (Renshen) (remove rhizome, one liang) Ziziphi Spinosae Semen (Suanzaoren) (lightly stir-fry, remove skin, grind, one liang) Chen Sha (Cinnabar, water-triturated, half liang) Boswelliae Resina (Ruxiang) (one fen, grind in a mortar placed in a basin of water)

My clan brother's wife lost her mind due to the chaos of war and fire. I prepared this formula for her; after taking twenty pills, she recovered. Relatives and acquaintances widely circulated it, and all who took it found it effective.
Treats accumulation of qi due to fright and worry, wind-pathogen invading the Heart. Upon onset, the jaw becomes tight, saliva surges causing obstruction and unconsciousness; upon waking, the spirit appears dull as if foolish.
Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata (Fuzi) (paozhi, remove skin and navel) Costi Rhizoma (Muxiang) Bombyx Batryticatus (Baijiangcan) (remove silk mouth, stir-fried) Daboia Savioana (Huashe) (soak in wine, remove skin and bones, roast) Exocarpium Citri Reticulatae (Juhong) Arisaema Cum Bile (Nanxing) (wash and soak, slice thinly, soak in ginger juice overnight, half liang) Cinnabar (Zhusha) (water-triturated one fen, reserve a small amount for coating)

Take one pill per dose, dissolve in Yinjin Bohe Tang (Silver Flower and Mint Decoction); warm wine is also acceptable.
This is my family's secret formula. In the year Wushen, a soldier in the army committed an offense, was stripped naked and about to be executed, but was pardoned. His spirit became disordered like madness. I gave him one pill. After taking it, he slept; upon waking, the illness had disappeared. Zhang Zaiyang, the Military Commissioner of Jiangdong, his wife had lost her mind for several years due to fleeing bandits. I taught her this formula; she recovered before finishing one course of treatment. Also, the wife of Wan Yan, Patrol Officer of Huangshan, suffered from mania and syncope for over a year. More than ten physicians treated her without success. I taught her this formula, removing Fuzi and adding Tiel Fen (Iron Powder). She recovered before finishing one course of treatment. Tiel Fen not only resolves phlegm and calms the Heart, but is particularly effective in suppressing Liver pathogenic factors. If there is frequent anger and excessive Liver pathogenic factors, Tiel Fen can subdue them. The *Suwen* states: "Yang jue (manic rage) is treated with Tielluo Yin (Iron Filings Decoction)," which reflects the principle of Metal controlling Wood. This point had not been discussed by predecessors.
