【秦皮】
主治：清除热邪。清肝火。明目。补益精气。治疗风寒、湿痹引起的目赤肿痛、青翳白膜（角膜云翳及白内障）。治疗下焦虚热、痢疾伴里急后重、妇人带下病、小儿惊风抽搐、天蛇毒疮。
秦皮散方：秦皮、滑石、黄连各等分。每次取五分，用开水浸泡，趁热清洗患处。治疗风毒引起的红眼病，视物昏暗，畏光羞明。
【合欢】
主治：安神定志，调和五脏，消散痈肿，续接筋骨，缓解折伤疼痛。
合欢散方：合欢皮（炒至黑色）四两，芥菜子（炒）一两。研成细末。每次服用二钱，临睡前用温酒送服。药渣外敷于患处。治疗跌打损伤导致的骨折。
【皂荚】
主治：通利九窍，辟除瘟疫，搜剔经络，消痰化食。泻肝火，利肺气，开胃，拔毒。治疗风痹、死肌（肌肉萎缩或坏死）、骨蒸潮热、中风口噤（牙关紧闭）、身体面部突然肿胀、头风脑眩、急性喉痹阻塞、咳嗽气逆、胸中痰结、坚症（腹部肿块）。治疗外肾偏痛、便毒肿痛、自缢将死时（研末吹入鼻中）。治疗妇人吹乳（急性乳腺炎）、难产、胞衣不下、痉风疠（麻风病或严重痉挛性疾病）、疥癣、一切肿痛、便毒、痈疽。皂角刺的功效大致相同。
皂角丸方：猪牙皂角、枳壳、羌活、桑白皮、槟榔、杏仁、麻仁、防风、白芷、陈皮各等分。研成细末，和蜜制成梧桐子大小的丸剂。每次服用三五十丸，用蜂蜜水送服。治疗肠风便血、大便秘结涩滞。有热象者加大黄。
皂角刺丸方：皂角刺二两（烧至烟尽，存其性），防风、槐花各七钱五分，蛇床子、白矾、枳壳、白蒺藜（炒）、羌活各五钱，蜂房（炒焦）、五倍子各二钱五分。研成细末，用醋调绿豆粉煮糊为丸，制成梧桐子大小。每次服用五十丸，饭前用苦楝根煎汤送服。治疗痔漏，症状或痛或痒，时常流出脓血。
皂角苦参丸方：大皂角五两，苦参一斤，荆芥十二两，白芷、大枫子肉、防风各六两，川芎、当归、生何首乌、大胡麻、枸杞子、牛蒡子（炒）、威灵仙、全蝎、白附子、蒺藜（炒）、独活、牛膝各五两，草乌（炮制）、苍术（炒）、连翘、天麻、蔓荆子、羌活、青风藤、甘草、杜仲（酥炙）各三两，白花蛇（切片，酥炙）、缩砂仁（炒）各二两，人参一两。研成细末，用醋打老米糊为丸，制成梧桐子大小。每次服用三四十丸，饭前饭后用温酒送服。注意避风忌口。治疗粟疮瘙痒，日久皮肤如蛇虫爬行状。
皂角化痰丸方：皂荚根白皮（酥炙）、白附子（炮）、半夏、南星（炮）、枯白矾、赤茯苓、人参各一两，枳壳（炒）二两。研成细末，用生姜汁煮面糊为丸，制成梧桐子大小。每次服用三十丸，饭后送服。治疗劳风导致的心脾壅滞，痰涎过多。咽喉不利，涕唾稠粘，吞咽阻塞，呕吐逆气，时而昏愦不清。
皂荚丸方：皂荚（酥炙）八两。研成细末，炼蜜为丸，制成梧桐子大小。每次服用三丸，用枣膏和汤送服。治疗肺痈初起，咳嗽气逆，吐出浊物。
又一方：蛇蜕七条，蝉蜕、白术、龙胆草、玄精石、生当归、白菊花、茯苓、木贼、连翘、赤芍、刺皮、穿山甲、谷精草各一两五钱，猪爪二十枚，川芎五钱，人参一两。研成细末。一半加入牙皂十二挺（烧存性）一起研磨，炼蜜为丸，制成梧桐子大小。每次服用一钱或五分，空腹用杏仁汤送服；另一半加入仙灵脾一两，研磨混合，每次服用三钱，用三片切开的猪肝夹药煮熟，临睡前细细嚼碎，用原汁送下。治疗沉翳及内外障膜，如十六般内障，可与生熟地黄丸同用。
又一方：皂荚（去皮弦，蜜炙）、紫菀、炙甘草、桑白皮、石菖蒲、半夏各二钱，明矾、杏仁、白丑头末各一钱，胆星一钱五分。研成细末，以百部一两二钱煎膏为丸，制成梧桐子大小。每次服用三四钱。治疗久哮。
皂角散方：皂角（烧灰）、蛤粉（研细）等分和匀。每次服用八字重，用热酒调下。治疗吹奶（急性乳腺炎）。
又一方：皂角、莱菔子等分。研成细末。每次服用二钱，水煎服，旨在催吐。
皂刺散方：皂角刺三斤，烧枯后蒸一个时辰，晒干研成细末。每日饭后服用二钱，用大黄煎浓汤调下。治疗麻风病半月后眉毛头发重新生长。
皂荚散方：大皂荚（炙去皮带子）、蜀椒各一两，细辛一两五钱。捣碎成散，装入囊中纳入阴道内。想解小便时，或感觉胸闷时，则取出之。已取出后再纳入。治疗妇人黄瘕（妇科积聚病）。待恶血排尽后，用温水清洗。三天内不要亲近男子。
[Qinpi (Fraxini Cortex)]
Indications: Clears heat. Cools the Liver. Improves vision. Nourishes essence and marrow. Treats wind-cold, bi-syndrome due to dampness, red eyes with swelling and pain, cyanotic nebula and white membrane (corneal opacity and cataract). Treats deficiency-heat in the Lower Jiao, dysentery with tenesmus, leukorrhea in women, infantile convulsions, Tian She Du Chuang (toxic sores), etc.
Qinpi San (Qinpi Powder): Qinpi (Fraxini Cortex), Huashi (Talcum), Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma) in equal parts. Use 5 fen per dose. Soak in boiling water and wash the affected area while hot. Treats red eyes caused by wind-toxin, dim vision, and photophobia.
[Heguan (Albiziae Cortex)]
Indications: Calms the mind and stabilizes the Five Zang organs. Resolves abscesses and swelling. Reconnects sinews and bones. Alleviates pain from fractures and injuries.
Heguan San (Heguan Powder): Heguan Pi (Albiziae Cortex) stir-fried until black, 4 liang; Jiecai Zi (Brassicae Chinensis Semen) stir-fried, 1 liang. Grind into powder. Take 2 qian per dose with warm wine before sleep. Apply the dregs externally to the affected area. Treats bone fractures from falls and injuries.
[Zaojiao (Gleditsiae Fructus Spinulus)]
Indications: Opens the nine orifices. Expels pestilence. Searches out meridians to resolve phlegm and aid digestion. Purges the Liver. Benefits the Lungs. Stimulates appetite. Draws out toxins. Treats wind-bi syndrome, dead flesh (necrosis), bone-steaming fever, stroke with locked jaw, sudden swelling of body and face, headache and vertigo, acute throat obstruction, cough with rebellious Qi, phlegm accumulation in the chest, hard masses. Treats unilateral pain of external genitalia, swollen and painful sores in the groin, near-death from hanging (grind into powder and insufflate into nose). Treats chuang ru (acute mastitis), difficult labor, retention of placenta, spasm and leprosy, scabies and tinea, all types of swelling, pain, groin sores, carbuncles, and ulcers. The thorns of Gleditsia (Zaojiao Ci) have similar functions.
Zaojiao Wan (Zaojiao Pill): Zhu Ya Zao Jiao (Gleditsiae Fructus), Zhike (Aurantii Fructus), Qianghuo (Notopterygii Rhizoma), Sangbaipi (Mori Cortex), Binglang (Arecae Semen), Xingren (Armeniacae Semen Amarum), Maren (Cannabis Semen), Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), Baizhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix), Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium) in equal parts. Grind into powder and make pills the size of wutong seeds. Take 30-50 pills per dose with honey water. Treats intestinal wind with hematochezia and constipation. Add Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma) if there is heat.
Zaojiao Ci Wan (Zaojiao Thorn Pill): Zaojiao Ci (Gleditsiae Spina) 2 liang (burned until smoke ceases, preserving its nature), Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix) and Huaihua (Sophorae Flos) each 7.5 qian, Shechuangzi (Cnidii Fructus), Baifan (Alumen), Zhike (Aurantii Fructus), Baijili (Tribuli Fructus) stir-fried, Qianghuo (Notopterygii Rhizoma) each 5 qian, Fengfang (Vespa Nest), Wubeizi (Gallae Chinensis) each 2.5 qian. Grind into powder. Mix with vinegar and mung bean flour paste to make pills the size of wutong seeds. Take 50 pills per dose before meals with decoction of Kudzu root (Kudzu Radix). Treats hemorrhoids and fistulas, with symptoms of pain or itching, often discharging pus and blood.
Zaojiao Kushen Wan (Zaojiao and Sophora Pill): Da Zaojiao (Gleditsiae Fructus) 5 liang, Kushen (Sophorae Flavescentis Radix) 1 jin, Jingjie (Schizonepetae Herba) 12 liang, Baizhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix), Dafengzi Rou (Bischofiae Semen), Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix) each 6 liang, Chuanxiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Sheng Heshouwu (Polygoni Multiflori Radix), Da Huma (Cannabis Semen), Gouqizi (Lycii Fructus), Niubangzi (Arctii Fructus) stir-fried, Weilingxian (Salviae Miltiorrhizae Radix), Quanxie (Scorpio), Baifuzi (Typhonii Rhizoma), Jili (Tribuli Fructus) stir-fried, Duhuo (Angelicae Pubescentis Radix), Niuxi (Achyranthis Bidentatae Radix) each 5 liang, Caowu (Aconiti Radix Praeparata), Cangzhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma) stir-fried, Lianqiao (Forsythiae Fructus), Tianma (Gastrodiae Rhizoma), Manjingzi (Viticis Fructus), Qianghuo (Notopterygii Rhizoma), Qingfengteng (Sinomenii Caulis), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), Duzhong (Eucommiae Cortex) prepared with su (pig fat) each 3 liang, Baihuashe (Bungarus Parvus) sliced and prepared with su, Suasharen (Amomi Fructus Rotundus) stir-fried each 2 liang, Renshen (Ginseng Radix) 1 liang. Grind into powder. Mix with vinegar and old rice paste to make pills the size of wutong seeds. Take 30-40 pills per dose with warm wine before or after meals. Avoid wind and dietary restrictions. Treats millet sores with itching, where the skin becomes like snake or insect trails over time.
Zaojiao Huatan Wan (Zaojiao Phlegm-Resolving Pill): Zaojiao Gen Baipi (Gleditsiae Radix Bark) prepared with su, Baifuzi (Typhonii Rhizoma) prepared, Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma), Nanxing (Arisaematis Rhizoma) prepared, Kubai fan (Alumen), Chifuling (Poria cum Ligno), Renshen (Ginseng Radix) each 1 liang, Zhike (Aurantii Fructus) stir-fried 2 liang. Grind into powder. Cook with fresh ginger juice and wheat paste to make pills the size of wutong seeds. Take 30 pills per dose after meals. Treats lung-labor wind causing stagnation in Heart and Spleen, excessive phlegm and saliva. Throat discomfort, thick sticky sputum, swallowing obstruction, vomiting and regurgitation, occasional fainting.
Zaojiao Wan (Zaojiao Pill): Zaojiao (Gleditsiae Fructus) prepared with su 8 liang. Grind into powder. Make honey pills the size of wutong seeds. Take 3 pills per dose with jujube paste and water. Treats early-stage lung abscess with cough, rebellious Qi, and expectoration of turbid matter.
Another Formula: Shedding of snakes (Shetui) 7 strips, Chantui (Cicadae Periostracum), Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma), Longdancao (Gentianae Radix), Xuanjingshi (Xuanjingshi), Sheng Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Baijuhua (Chrysanthemi Flos), Fuling (Poria), Muzei (Equiseti Herba), Lianqiao (Forsythiae Fructus), Chishao (Paeoniae Radix Rubra), Cipi (likely referring to a bark or specific herb, contextually ambiguous but kept as Cipi), Chanshanjia (Manis Squama), Gujingcao (Euphrasiae Herba) each 1.5 liang, Pig trotters 20 pieces, Chuanxiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma) 5 qian, Renshen (Ginseng Radix) 1 liang. Grind into powder. Divide into two halves. One half mixes with 12 whole teeth of Ya Zao (Gleditsiae Fructus) burned to preserve nature, ground together, made into honey pills the size of wutong seeds. Take 1 qian or 5 fen per dose on an empty stomach with Apricot Kernel decoction. The other half mixes with Xianlingpi (Epimedii Herba) 1 liang, ground together. Take 3 qian per dose. Sandwich the medicine between three slices of pig liver, cook thoroughly, chew finely before bed, and swallow with the original broth. Treats deep nebula and internal/external cataracts, such as the sixteen types of internal obstructions. Use together with Sheng Shu Dihuang Wan (Rehmannia Pill).
Another Formula: Zaojiao (Gleditsiae Fructus) peeled, string removed, honey-fried, Ziwan (Adenophorae Radix), Zhi Gancao (Prepared Licorice), Sangbaipi (Mori Cortex), Shichangpu (Acori Tatarinowii Rhizoma), Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma) each 2 qian, Mingfan (Alumen), Xingren (Armeniacae Semen Amarum), Bai Chou Tou Mo (Beladonna Seed Powder) each 1 qian, Danxing (Arisaema cum Bile) 1.5 qian. Grind into powder. Use 1.2 liang of Dubu (Stemonae Radix) decocted into paste to make pills the size of wutong seeds. Take 3-4 qian per dose. Treats chronic asthma.
Zaojiao San (Zaojiao Powder): Zaojiao (Gleditsiae Fructus) burned to ash, Haifen (Concha Meretricis) ground, mixed in equal parts. Take 8 fen per dose with hot wine. Treats chuang ru (acute mastitis).
Another Formula: Zaojiao (Gleditsiae Fructus), Laifu Zi (Raphani Semen) in equal parts. Grind into powder. Take 2 qian per dose, decoct in water and take orally to induce vomiting.
Zao Ci San (Zaojiao Thorn Powder): Zaojiao Ci (Gleditsiae Spina) 3 jin, burned until charred, steamed for one shichen (two hours), dried and ground into powder. Take 2 qian per dose after meals, mixed with strong decoction of Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma). Treats leprosy; eyebrows and hair regenerate after half a month.
Zaojiao San (Zaojiao Powder): Da Zaojiao (Gleditsiae Fructus) roasted, peeled, de-seeded, Shujiao (Zanthoxyli Pericarpium) each 1 liang, Xixin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma) 1.5 liang. Pound into powder, store in a bag, insert into the vagina. Remove when needing to urinate or feeling stifled, then re-insert. Treats female huang jia (yellow mass/gynecological tumor). After foul blood is expelled completely, wash with warm water. Avoid sexual intercourse for three days.
