阿魏具有破除症结（腹内结块）、驱避瘟疫、防治瘴疠（山林湿热致病之气）、治疗心腹疼痛、霍乱、蛊毒、疳积虚劳、肾气逆上，以及解除食用菌类、马牛羊等自死动物肉类中毒的功效。
阿魏丸。阿魏（用醋浸泡）五钱。山楂肉、南星（用皂角水浸泡）、半夏（与南星一同浸泡）、麦芽、神曲（炒制）、黄连、莱菔子（蒸制）各一两。连翘、贝母、栝蒌各五钱。风化硝石、碱、胡黄连、白芥子各二钱五分。将上述药材研成细末。用姜汁浸湿炊饼（一种面食），调和药末制成丸剂。每次服用二钱。用于治疗症瘕积聚痞块（腹内结块）。服药后频繁食用胡桃肉。若伴有咳嗽，加入香附、蛤粉。体质虚弱者忌服。
又方。阿魏（用面粉包裹煨至面熟为止）、当归、桂心、青皮、附子（炮制）、白术、川芎各一两。吴茱萸（炮制）、木香、干姜各三分。槟榔、肉豆蔻（煨制）、玄胡索、莪术各一两。朱砂五钱。将上述药材研成细末。先用一升醋煮阿魏成膏状，再与药末混合，制成梧桐子大小的丸剂。每次服用二十丸，饭前用热酒送服。用于治疗妇人血气攻心引起的疼痛，以及一切冷积气证。
阿魏保生膏。先用麻油二十两，浸泡榆、桑、桃、柳、槐树枝各二十一段，熬至枯焦。再加入蓖麻仁、巴豆各一百二十粒，大枫子（去净肉）、土木鳖、番木鳖各五十个，穿山甲（炙制）二十片，白附子、当归、白芷各五钱，大黄二两，甘草三钱，核桃肉一斤。继续熬至枯焦，滤去药渣。将药油重新倒入干净的锅中，熬至滴水成珠的程度。加入飞净的血丹八两，制成膏剂。再加入没药、乳香（均去油）、儿茶、血竭、阿魏各五钱，冰片一钱，麝香三钱，水红花（熬成膏）四两。搅拌均匀后收贮。每次使用时，用狗皮摊贴患处。治疗痞块积聚有显著疗效。
阿魏雷丸散。阿魏、紫雷丸、雄黄、紫石英各三分。朱砂、滑石、石胆、雌黄、芦白蔹、犀角各五钱。斑蝥（去足翅）、芫青（去足翅）各四十枚。牛黄五分。紫铨一两。捣碎成散剂。每次服用一钱七分，空腹时以酒送服，早晚各一次。用于治疗肠虫病。
阿魏麝香散。阿魏（酒煮）五钱。麝香一钱。雄黄三钱。野水红花子四两。神曲（炒制）、人参、生白术各一两。肉桂五钱。制成散剂。每次服用三钱，用三个去皮荸荠捣烂与药混合。早晚各服一次，服药后用砂仁汤漱口。
Indications. Breaks up masses and accumulations, wards off epidemics, prevents miasma (pathogenic factors caused by damp-heat in mountainous regions), treats heart and abdominal pain, cholera, gu poison (poisoning from decaying matter or parasites), childhood malnutrition and consumption, rebellious kidney qi, and resolves toxicity from mushrooms and meat of dead horses, cattle, and sheep.
Awei Pill. Awei (soaked in vinegar) 5 qian. Hawthorn fruit flesh, Arisaema cum Bile (soaked in soapberry water), Pinellia Rhizoma Preparatum (soaked with Arisaema), Malt, Medicated Leaven (stir-fried), Coptis Rhizoma, Radish Seed (steamed) each 1 liang. Forsythiae Fructum, Fritillariae Bulbus, Trichosanthis Fructus each 5 qian. Sal Nitri Recrystallizatus, Alumen Rubrum, Picrorhizae Rhizoma, White Mustard Seed each 2.5 qian. Grind into fine powder. Soak steamed wheat cake in ginger juice, mix with the powder to form pills. Take 2 qian per dose. Treats zheng jia (masses and accumulations) and epigastric fullness. After taking the medicine, frequently consume walnut kernels. If cough is present, add Cyperi Rhizoma and Concha Meretricis. Contraindicated for those with deficiency.
Another Prescription. Awei (wrapped in flour and roasted until the flour is cooked), Angelicae Sinensis Radix, Cinnamomi Cortex, Tangerine Peel, Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata, Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma, Chuanxiong Rhizoma each 1 liang. Evodiae Fructus (processed), Costi Rhizoma, Zingiberis Rhizoma Preparatum each 3 fen. Arecae Semen, Myristicae Semen (roasted), Corydalis Rhizoma, Curcumae Radix each 1 liang. Cinnabaris 5 qian. Grind into fine powder. First, boil Awei in one sheng of vinegar until it forms a paste. Mix with the powder and form pills the size of wutong seeds. Take 20 pills per dose before meals, washed down with warm wine. Treats pain in women due to blood and qi attacking the heart, and all types of cold accumulation and qi stagnation.
Awei Baosheng Ointment. First, use 20 liang of sesame oil to soak branches of elm, mulberry, peach, willow, and locust trees (21 segments of each). Boil until charred. Then add 120 grains of Ricini Semen and Crotonis Fructus, 50 Daphnes Genkwa Seeds (cleaned flesh), Sparganii Rhizoma, and Strychni Semen each. Add 20 slices of Pangolin Scales (roasted), 5 qian each of Typhonii Rhizoma, Angelicae Sinensis Radix, and Angelicae Dahuricae Radix, 2 liang of Rheum Palmatum Radix et Rhizoma, 3 qian of Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, and 1 jin of Walnut Kernel. Boil until charred, filter out the dregs. Return the filtered oil to a clean pot and boil until it forms beads when dropped in water. Add 8 liang of refined Xue Dan (Cinnabar preparation) to form the ointment. Then add 5 qian each of Myrrha, Olibanum (both defatted), Camelliae Semen, Sanguis Draconis, and Awei; 1 qian of Borneolum Syntheticum; 3 qian of Moschus; and 4 liang of Polygoni Multiflori Caulis (boiled into paste). Stir evenly and store. Apply externally using dog skin as a plaster base. Highly effective for treating masses and accumulations.
Awei Leiwan Powder. Awei, Lei Wan (Polyporus Umbellatus), Realgar, Fluorite each 3 fen. Cinnabaris, Talcum, Chalcanthum, Orpiment, Bai Lian (Bai Lian root), Rhinoceros Horn each 5 qian. Mylabris (legs and wings removed), Mylabris (legs and wings removed) each 40 pieces. Cow Bezoar 5 fen. Zi Dian (likely a typo for a mineral or herb, possibly referring to a specific preparation) 1 liang. Pound into powder. Take 1.7 qian per dose on an empty stomach with wine, twice daily (morning and evening). Treats intestinal parasites.
Awei Shexiang Powder. Awei (boiled in wine) 5 qian. Moschus 1 qian. Realgar 3 qian. Wild Polygoni Multiflori Caulis Seed 4 liang. Medicated Leaven (stir-fried), Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma, Raw Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma each 1 liang. Cinnamon Twig 5 qian. Prepare as powder. Take 3 qian per dose, mixed with three peeled and mashed water chestnuts. Take once in the morning and once in the evening, rinsing the mouth with Amomum Villosum seed decoction after administration.
