【释名】蜂肠（《本经》）、蜂
百穿（并《别录》）、紫金沙。
【集解】《别录》曰∶露蜂房生 山谷。七月七日采，阴干。
弘景曰∶此蜂房多在树腹中及地中。今曰露蜂房，当用人家屋间及树枝间苞裹者。乃远
举 ，未解所以。
恭曰∶此房悬在树上得风露者。其蜂黄黑色，长寸许，螫马、牛及人，乃至欲死。非人
家屋下小小蜂房也。
韩保升曰∶此树上大黄蜂窠也。所在皆有，大者如瓮，小者如桶。十一月、十二月采之。
宗 曰∶露蜂房有二种∶一种小而色淡黄，窠长六七寸至一尺，阔二、三寸，如蜜脾下
垂一边，多在丛木深林之中，谓之牛舌蜂；一种多在高木之上，或屋之下，
许，或一、二斗，中有窠如瓠状，由此得名玄瓠蜂，其色赤黄，大于诸蜂。
曰∶蜂房有四件∶一名革蜂窠，大者一、二丈围，在树上、内窠小隔六百二十个，
大者至一千二百四十个，其裹粘木蒂是七姑木汁，其盖是牛粪沫，其隔是叶蕊也；二名石
蜂窠，只在人家屋上，大小如拳，色苍黑，内有青色蜂二十一个，或只十四个，其盖是石垢
，其粘处是七姑木汁，其隔是竹蛀也；三名独蜂窠，大小如鹅卵大，皮浓苍黄色，是小蜂肉
并蜂翅，盛向里只有一个蜂，大如小石燕子许，人马被螫着立亡也。四名是草蜂窠也。入
以革蜂窠为胜。
时珍曰∶革蜂，乃山中大黄蜂也，其房有重重如楼台者。石蜂、草蜂，寻常所见蜂也。
独蜂，俗名七里蜂者是矣，其毒最猛。
【修治】 曰∶凡使革蜂窠，先以鸦豆枕等同拌蒸，从巳至未时，出鸦豆枕了，晒干用。
大明曰∶入药并炙用。
【气味】苦，平，有毒。《别录》曰∶咸。
之才曰∶恶干姜、丹参、黄芩、芍药、牡蛎。
【主治】惊痫螈 ，寒热邪气，癫疾，鬼精蛊毒，肠痔。火熬之良（《本经》）。疗蜂毒、
毒肿。合乱发、蛇皮烧灰，以酒日服方寸匕，治恶疽

风虫牙痛∶露蜂房煎醋，热漱之。《袖珍方》∶用草蜂房一枚，盐实孔内烧过
盐汤漱去。或取一块咬之。秘方也。《普济方》∶用露蜂房一个，乳香三块，煎

喉痹肿痛∶《普济方》露蜂房灰、白僵蚕等分，为末。每乳香汤服半钱。《食医心镜》∶
用蜂房烧灰。每以一钱吹入喉内。不拘大人、小儿。
重舌肿痛∶蜂房炙研，酒和敷之，日三、四次。（《圣惠方》）
舌上出血窍如针孔∶用紫金沙（即露蜂房顶上实处）一两，贝母四钱，芦荟三钱，为末，
蜜和丸雷丸大。每用一丸，水一小盏，煎至五分，温服。吐血，温酒调服。（《云台方》）
吐血衄血∶方同上。
崩中漏下五色，使人无子∶蜂房末三指撮，温酒服之，大神效。（张文仲方）

【释名】蜂肠（出自《神农本草经》）、蜂百穿（均出自《名医别录》）、紫金沙。
【集解】《名医别录》记载：露蜂房生长在山谷中。七月七日采集，阴干。
陶弘景说：这种蜂房多在树腹中和地中。现在所说的露蜂房，应当使用人家屋檐间及树枝间包裹的。这似乎是远举之词，我不理解其中的原因。
苏恭说：这种蜂房悬挂在树上，经受风露的。其蜂体黄黑色，长约一寸左右，螫刺马、牛及人，甚至会导致死亡。不是人家屋檐下那种小小的蜂房。
韩保升说：这是树上的大黄蜂巢穴。各地都有，大的像瓮，小的像桶。十一月、十二月采集。
寇宗奭说：露蜂房有两种：一种小而色淡黄，巢长六七寸至一尺，宽二、三寸，像蜜脾一样下垂一边，多长在丛木深林之中，称为牛舌蜂；一种多在高高的树木之上，或屋檐之下，巢大如斗许，或一、二斗，里面有巢像葫芦状，因此得名玄瓠蜂，其颜色赤黄，比各种蜂都大。
李时珍说：蜂房有四类：一名革蜂巢，大的有一、二丈围，在树上，内部巢有小隔六百二十个，大的至一千二百四十个，其包裹粘附树蒂的是七姑木汁，其盖子是牛粪沫，其隔板是叶蕊；二名石蜂巢，只在人家屋上，大小如拳头，颜色苍黑，内有青色蜂二十一个，或者只有十四个，其盖子是石垢，其粘合处是七姑木汁，其隔板是竹蛀屑；三名独蜂巢，大小如鹅卵大，皮厚苍黄色，是小蜂肉并蜂翅，里面只盛有一个蜂，大如小石燕子大小，人马被螫着立刻死亡。四名是草蜂巢。入药以革蜂巢为优。
李时珍说：革蜂，就是山中的大黄蜂，其巢有重重叠叠如楼台状的。石蜂、草蜂，是寻常所见的蜂。独蜂，俗名七里蜂，其毒性最猛。
【修治】陈藏器说：凡使用革蜂巢，先用鸦豆枕等同拌蒸，从巳时至未时，取出鸦豆枕后，晒干使用。
孟诜说：入药并需炙用。
【气味】苦，平，有毒。《名医别录》说：咸。
徐之才说：畏干姜、丹参、黄芩、芍药、牡蛎。
【主治】惊痫抽搐，寒热邪气，癫疾，鬼精蛊毒，肠痔。火熬制效果良好（出自《神农本草经》）。治疗蜂毒、毒肿。配合乱发、蛇皮烧成灰，用酒每日服用方寸匕，治疗恶疽、恶脉诸毒皆愈（出自《名医别录》）。治疗上气、赤白痢、疮。服用汁液，可解乳石毒（苏恭）。

**[Names]** Fengchang (from *Shennong Bencao Jing*), Fengbaichuan (both from *Mingyi Bielu*), Zijinsha.
**[Collection and Explanation]** *Mingyi Bielu* states: Lufengfang (Hornet's Nest exposed to dew) grows in mountain valleys. It is harvested on the seventh day of the seventh lunar month and dried in the shade.
Taohongjing said: This kind of nest is mostly found inside tree trunks and in the ground. The so-called "Lufengfang" nowadays should refer to those wrapped in eaves of houses and among branches. This seems to be a distant reference, and I do not understand the reason behind it.
Su Gong said: These nests hang on trees, exposed to wind and dew. The hornets are yellowish-black, about one cun long. They sting horses, cattle, and humans, sometimes causing death. They are not the small nests under human dwellings.
Han Baosheng said: This is the large yellow hornet's nest on trees. It is available everywhere; large ones are like jars, small ones like buckets. Harvested in the eleventh and twelfth lunar months.
Kong Zongsao said: There are two types of Lufengfang: One type is small and pale yellow, with a nest six or seven cun to one chi long, two or three cun wide, hanging down like a honeycomb on one side, mostly found in dense woods and deep forests, called Niusheweng (Ox-tongue Hornet); the other type is mostly on high trees or under eaves, the nest size like a dou or one to two dou, containing a nest shaped like a gourd, hence named Xuanhugeng (Black Gourd Hornet), its color is reddish-yellow, larger than other hornets.
Li Shizhen said: There are four kinds of hornet nests: First is the Ge Fengke (Leather Hornet's Nest), large ones have a circumference of one or two zhang, on trees, with internal compartments numbering 620, up to 1240 for larger ones. The wrapping adhering to the tree stump is juice from Qigumu, the cover is cow dung foam, and the partitions are leaf veins. Second is the Shi Fengke (Stone Hornet's Nest), only found on house roofs, size like a fist, color dark grey-black, containing 21 or 14 green hornets. The cover is stone scurf, the adhesive is Qigumu juice, and the partitions are bamboo borings. Third is the Du Fengke (Solitary Hornet's Nest), size like a goose egg, skin thick and dark yellow. It contains flesh and wings of small hornets, holding only one hornet inside, as large as a small swallow stone. If humans or horses are stung, they die immediately. Fourth is the Cao Fengke (Grass Hornet's Nest). For medicinal use, the Ge Fengke is superior.
Li Shizhen said: Ge Feng refers to the large yellow hornet in mountains, whose nests are layered like pavilions. Shi Feng and Cao Feng are common hornets seen daily. Du Feng, commonly known as Qilifeng (Seven-Li Hornet), has the most potent venom.
**[Processing]** Chen Cangqi said: When using Ge Fengke, first steam it mixed with Ya Dou Zhen (Crow Bean Pillow) from Si hour to Wei hour. Remove the Ya Dou Zhen, then dry and use.
Meng Shen said: For medicinal use, it must be roasted.
**[Flavor and Toxicity]** Bitter, neutral, toxic. *Mingyi Bielu* adds: Salty.
Xu Zhicai said: It is incompatible with Ganjiang (Dried Ginger), Danshen (Salvia Miltiorrhiza), Huangqin (Scutellaria Root), Shaoyao (Peony Root), and Muli (Oyster Shell).
**[Indications]** Treats fright epilepsy with convulsions, pathogenic factors of cold and heat, manic depression, ghost essence and gu poison, intestinal hemorrhoids. Firing/roasting is effective (*Shennong Bencao Jing*). Treats bee/wasp venom and toxic swellings. Combined with disordered hair and snake skin, roasted to ash, taken orally with wine once a cun-bi daily, it cures malignant carbuncles, evil pulses, and various toxins (*Mingyi Bielu*). Treats ascending qi, red and white dysentery, and sores. Drinking the juice resolves Rushi (Mineral Drug) toxicity (Su Gong).

**[Elucidation]** Li Shizhen said: Lufengfang is a herb for the Yangming channel. Its use in surgery, dentistry, and other diseases relies on its ability to attack poison with poison and its insect-killing efficacy.
**[Prescriptions]** Fifteen old prescriptions, twenty new prescriptions.
Sudden infantile epilepsy: One large hornet's nest, boiled in three sheng of water to make a concentrated decoction for bathing, three to four times a day is best. (*Qianjin Fang*)
Umbilical damp-heat swelling that does not heal for a long time: Roast the hornet's nest to powder and apply externally. Effective. (*Zimu Milu*)
Wind-bi of hands and feet: Burn one large yellow hornet's nest (or three to four small ones) to ash. Mix with one bowl of single-clove garlic and one qian half of Baicaoshuang (soot from kitchen chimney), pound together and apply. Remove after one hour and bury in a shady place. Avoid raw/cold foods.
Wind-damp itching and urticaria: Jiyuan Fang uses equal parts of roasted Lufengfang and Chantui (Cicada Slough), powdered. Take one qian with wine, three times a day. *Meishi Fang*: Decoct Lufengfang to obtain two sheng of juice, add Mangxiao (Mirabilite) and apply, five times a day.
Wind-heat tooth swelling extending to head and face: Use Lufengfang, roast until carbonized but retaining nature, powder it. Mix with a little wine and gargle. (*Shibian Liangfang*)
Wind-worm toothache: Decoct Lufengfang in vinegar and gargle hot. *Xiuzhen Fang*: Use one grass hornet's nest, fill holes with salt, roast, then rinse with salt water. Or chew a piece. Secret recipe. *Puji Fang*: Use one Lufengfang, three pieces of Ruxiang (Frankincense), decoct with Xixin (Asarum) water and gargle. Alternatively, grind Lufengfang and Quanxie (Scorpion) together and rub on the area. *Shenghui Fang*: Use the stalk of the hornet's nest, wrap in cotton and bite. Effective.
Throat bi with swelling and pain: *Puji Fang* uses equal parts of Lufengfang ash and Baijiangcan (Bombyx Batryticatus), powdered. Take half a qian with Ruxiang decoction. *Shiyi Xinjing*: Roast hornet's nest to ash. Blow one qian into the throat. Suitable for adults and children.
Swollen tongue with pain: Roast and grind hornet's nest, mix with wine and apply, three to four times a day. (*Shenghui Fang*)
Bleeding from pores on the tongue like needle holes: Use one liang of Zijinsha (the solid top part of Lufengfang), four qian of Beimu (Fritillaria Bulb), three qian of Lvhui (Aloe). Powder them, form pills the size of Leiwan (Beetle Larva Pill) with honey. Take one pill, decoct in a small cup of water until reduced by half, take warm. For hematemesis, take with warm wine. (*Yuntai Fang*)
Hematemesis and epistaxis: Same prescription as above.
Metrorrhagia and leukorrhea of five colors causing infertility: Take three finger-pinches of Lufengfang powder with warm wine. Highly effective. (Zhang Wenzhong Fang)
Infantile dysentery with red and white stool: Roast hornet's nest to powder, take five fen with water. (Zhang Jie, *Zimu Milu*)
Infantile cough: Two liang of hornet's nest, washed and roasted to powder. Take one zi per dose...
Obstruction of urination and defecation: Roast hornet's nest to powder, take two to three qian with wine, twice a day.
Impotence: Grind hornet's nest, take two qian with fresh well water. Can satisfy ten women. (*Gulou Shenshu*)
Yin cold and impotence: Apply hornet's nest ash to the yin region at night, heat will arise. (*Qianjin Fang*)
Yin toxin abdominal pain: Three qian of Lufengfang (roasted to retain nature), five cun of Congbai (Green Onion White), grind together into pills. Men hold in left hand, women in right hand, grasp yin while lying down. Recovery occurs with sweating.
Tapeworms: Roast hornet's nest to retain nature, take one spoonful with wine. Worms die and exit. (*Shengsheng Bian*)
Heat-toxin obstruction from mineral drugs, headache, dry mouth, scanty red urine: Decoct hornet's nest to obtain five he of juice and take. Mineral drug residues will pass through urine. Highly effective. *Tujing* says: Roast twelve fen, boil in two sheng of water to obtain eight he...

Recurrent soft boils: Two Lufengfang, roast to retain nature. Boil twenty-one Badou (Croton Seeds) in clear oil for two or three boils, remove beans. Use oil to mix and apply. Very effective. (*Tangshi Dexiao Fang*)
Women's妒乳 (Jealous Breast/Mastitis): Milk abscess not draining, forming internal pus, called Du Ru. Roast hornet's nest to ash, powder. Take two qian, decoct in a small cup of water to six parts, strain and take warm. (*Jizhong Fang*)
Wind sores not healing: One Lufengfang, roast yellow and powder. Mix one qian with lard and apply. (*Zhouhou Fang*)
Lower body leaking hemorrhoids: Roast large Lufengfang to retain nature, grind, and sprinkle. If dry, mix with true rapeseed oil. (Tang Shi, *Jingyan Fang*)
Swelling and pain from wasp sting: Powder hornet's nest, mix with pig fat and apply. Or decoct and wash. (*Qianjin Fang*)
