[Lingsha (Spirit Cinnabar)]
Obtain Mercury and Sulfur.
Mercury Furnace (refining apparatus).
Sweet in taste, warm in nature. Non-toxic. It is formed by refining two medicinal materials, Mercury and Sulfur, using the water-fire alchemical method. (The method: Take one tael of Mercury and six zhu of Sulfur, first stir-fry to make "Qingsha Tou" (Green Sand Head), then put it into a water-fire furnace for extraction/refinement. If it takes on a shape resembling bundled needles or twisted threads, it is successful, also known as Erqi Sha (Two-Qi Cinnabar).) It fears salty water and should not be added; it detests Magnetite and must be avoided. It can stop irritability and fullness, unblock blood vessels, calm the hun and po souls, and nourish the spirit. It kills evil spirits and wards off malevolent influences, benefits qi, and brightens the eyes. Long-term use prevents aging, makes the body light, and leads to immortality. It makes the mind agile and the spirit clear and unobstructed. If fed to monkeys or parrots, they will act like humans without error.
[Yunmu (Mica)]
Yunmu from Yanzhou.
Yunmu from Jiangzhou.
[Yangqishi (Stilbite)]
Sweet in taste, neutral in nature. Non-toxic. Langya (located northeast of Pengcheng) produces it abundantly, and Lushan (belonging to Nankang Prefecture) also produces it. There are five colors, with Baize (White Ze color) being the most precious. It occurs in layered sheets that can be peeled apart, transparent, thin, light, and bright. It grows in sandy soil, growing month by month. It fears iron armor and east-flowing water; it avoids sheep blood and dislikes Xuchangqing (Polygonum perfoliatum). Using Zexie (Alisma orientale) as an assistant herb is suitable, following Leigong's processing methods is excellent. (For every jin of Yunmu, use one yi each of Xiaodichangcao (Scutellaria barbata), Zi Bei (Purple Shell), Tiankui (Solomon's seal rhizome or similar), Sheng Gancao (Raw Licorice root), and Dihuangzhi (Rehmannia juice), place them in a porcelain pot, put the Yunmu inside, add three yi of Tianchi water, boil for seven days and nights, do not lose control/measure, so the Yunmu naturally turns into jade green. The slurry settles at the bottom of the pot. Then vigorously add Tianchi water, stir with an object, remove what floats up and resembles snail slime. Wash three times in this manner. Take one tael of Chenxiang (Agarwood), grind into powder, decoct in three sheng of Tianchi water, divide into three parts, wash again, dry, and use.) If the measures are not understood, do not take it lightly. It treats dead flesh on the body surface, such as wind-cold-heat conditions occurring on carriages or boats; it treats red and white dysentery, and women's leukorrhea and metrorrhagia. It calms the five zang organs and benefits the essence of offspring, dispels pathogenic factors, and enables endurance of cold and heat. For generalized pruritus where hundreds of methods fail, mix powder with water and take orally; for various types of foul ulcers and all painful lesions, grind into powder, mix with oil, and apply externally. Long-term use extends life, lightens the body, and brightens the eyes. Additionally, Yangqishi is the root of Yunmu. It only fears Tusizi (Cuscuta chinensis) and also avoids sheep blood; it dislikes Zexie, Ronggui (Cinnamon bark), She Tui (Snake skin), and Leiwan (Polyporus umbellatus). When used as an assistant drug, Sangpiaoxiao (Mantis egg case) is suitable; choose those that are bright and translucent like wild wolf's teeth for superiority. (Those with cloud-head and two feet, or egret-feather patterns, are especially good.) To test its tightness or looseness, grind it extremely finely. Spread it in a glazed basin, expose it to the noon sun. Cover the basin surface tightly with wet paper, and gently smoke the bottom of the basin with mild fire. Those that rise and stick to the paper have strong potency; those remaining in the basin have weak potency. It has special efficacy in treating kidney qi deficiency and impotence; it breaks up blood masses and stagnation, providing immediate relief for unbearable abdominal pain. It removes dampness and itching of the scrotum, and drives out cold from the uterus. (Mo) Commentary: The commentary in Benjing states: There are five types of Yunmu. One should hold them up to the sun and observe carefully to distinguish them. If viewed in the shade, the mixed colors are not visible. If all five colors are present, it is called Yunhua. If all five colors are present but predominantly green, it is called Yunying, suitable for spring consumption. If all five colors are present but predominantly red, it is called Yunzhu, suitable for summer consumption. If all five colors are present but predominantly white, it is called Yunye, suitable for autumn consumption. If all five colors are present but predominantly black, it is called Yunmu, suitable for winter consumption. If only green and yellow colors are present, it is called Yunsha, suitable for late summer consumption. Crystalline pure white ones are called Linshi, suitable for consumption in all four seasons. The Baize used in medical prescriptions is exactly Linshi. It is also said: Other items rot when buried in soil and burn when exposed to fire, but these five types of Yunmu do not burn even after long exposure to fierce fire, nor do they decay even after long burial in deep wells, thus enabling longevity. After ten years of consumption, clouds often cover the person. Consuming the mother substance to generate the child substance is also a logical principle. Although this was said in ancient times, nowadays no one is heard taking it for longevity, probably because mineral substances have fierce properties, and moreover, the processing measures might not be fully detailed in textual records. Do not take it lightly; this is utmost caution.
