[Symptoms of Abdominal Distension in the Six Fu Organs] Fullness and distension in the chest and anterior region, interfering with food intake, indicates Wei (Stomach) distension. Borborygmus accompanied by pain, producing a sloshing sound, indicates Da Chang (Large Intestine) distension. Scanty urine with difficulty in urination and fullness/distension in the lower abdomen indicates Xiao Chang (Small Intestine) distension. Qi stagnation leading to difficult urination and urgency/fullness in the Shao (Lower) abdomen indicates Pang Guang (Bladder) distension. Qi filling the skin and muscles, sounding hollow, indicates San Jiao (Triple Burner) distension. Pain in the hypochondrium, bitter taste in the mouth, and frequent sighing indicate Dan (Gallbladder) distension. These are the symptoms of abdominal distension in the Six Fu Organs.

[Etiology of Abdominal Distension in the Six Fu Organs] Irregular diet, suffering from hunger or overeating, often leads to Wei (Stomach) distension; stagnation in the Middle Jiao generates Phlegm or Accumulation, causing Lung Qi to fail in clearing, which descends to affect the Da Chang (Large Intestine), resulting in abdominal distension. Heat in the Xin (Heart) and Wei (Stomach) descends to affect the Xiao Chang (Small Intestine), also causing abdominal distension. Lung Qi stagnation prevents downward transmission to the Pang Guang (Bladder), causing lower abdominal distension. The San Jiao (Triple Burner) governs the Qi of the body; when Great Qi circulates freely, there are no obstructions; however, if the San Jiao (Triple Burner) is congested and stagnant, abdominal distension arises. Gan (Liver) and Dan (Gallbladder) belong to Wood and prefer smooth flow; failure to unblock them leads to Dan (Gallbladder) distension. These are the etiologies of abdominal distension in the Six Fu Organs.
