[Symptoms of Body Swelling due to Wind-Cold] Aversion to cold with fever, swelling of the head and body. When wind predominates, there is excessive sweating; when cold predominates, there is no sweating. This is a condition caused by external contraction of wind-cold, corresponding to "Wind Water" (Feng Shui) and "Skin Water" (Pi Shui) described in the *Jin Gui Yao Lue* (Essential Prescriptions of the Golden Cabinet), which should be treated via the Taiyang Meridian (Taiyang Channel).
[Etiology of Body Swelling due to Wind-Cold] The defensive qi (Wei Qi) is inherently deficient, and lung qi is inherently hot. Deficiency of defensive qi allows external pathogens to easily invade; heat in the lung causes the skin pores (Mao Li) to open easily. When cold attacks the muscle surface, it becomes stagnant and fails to dissipate, resulting in symptoms of fever and body swelling.
[Pulse of Body Swelling due to Wind-Cold] The pulse is mostly floating and large, or floating and rapid, or floating and tight. Floating and slow indicates wind; floating and tight indicates cold; floating and rapid indicates heat.
[Treatment of Body Swelling due to Wind-Cold] For a floating and slow pulse, disperse wind; for a floating and tight pulse, disperse cold. Zhang Zhongjing's Fangji Huangqi Tang (Stephania and Astragalus Decoction) treats wind pathogen. (If wind enters the Lung Meridian accompanied by wheezing and cough, use Xiebai San plus Fangfeng.) If cold enters the Lung Meridian accompanied by fever, wheezing, and cough, use Xiebai San plus Mahuang.

[Symptoms of Body Swelling due to Cold-Dampness] Heavy and painful body, cold calves and shins, chest fullness and oppression, generalized body swelling. These are symptoms of swelling caused by cold-dampness.
[Etiology of Body Swelling due to Cold-Dampness] It may be due to seasonal continuous rain and cold weather; or living in damp and yin environments where yin-cold qi attacks the muscle surface; or getting wet after sweating, injuring the body with cold water. Thus, the condition of cold-damp swelling forms.
[Pulse of Body Swelling due to Cold-Dampness] The pulse is mostly deep and small, or deep and slow, or deep and soggy.
[Treatment of Body Swelling due to Cold-Dampness] With aversion to cold and body pain, first warm the meridians and dispel dampness. In winter, use Mahuang Guizhi Tang (Ephedra and Cinnamon Twig Decoction); in other months, use Qianghuo Dusheng Baidu San (Notopterygium and Angelica Pubescens Decoction to Overcome Toxins). For stagnation of dampness, use Shengshi Tang (Decoction to Overcome Dampness). For lung injury by dampness with wheezing, cough, and edema, use Daoshui Fuling Tang (Water-Guiding Poria Decoction).
