If the Spleen Earth is unable to function properly, appetite will be lost. Consequently, Blood becomes deficient, causing the menstrual flow to be delayed. If in the following month food intake increases significantly, the menstrual flow may then occur earlier. Treatment should focus on regulating the Spleen; when the Spleen is robust, Blood will be balanced and Qi will flow smoothly, allowing menstruation to occur naturally at the proper time. The recommended formula is Zijin Wan (Purple Gold Pill).

When menstruation occurs either earlier or later than expected, it is termed "Qianqi" (Delayed or Irregular Menstrual Cycle). This condition arises from deficiency of the Spleen and Stomach, injury to the Chong and Ren vessels, and insufficiency of Qi and Blood. It is advisable to take Jiajian Bawu Tang (Modified Eight-Treasure Decoction) and concurrently administer Tiaojing Wuji Wan (Regulating Menstruation Black-Bone Chicken Pill).
