When the fetus is in the womb, if the mother consumes hot-natured foods, the heat attacks the Zang-Fu organs. After birth, heat-toxin accumulates in the mouth, and small granules resembling millet seeds appear on the tongue, causing the mouth to be unable to open. The infant is seen unable to suckle milk, the crying voice gradually becomes smaller, and saliva bubbles are expelled from the mouth. One must immediately examine the infant's groin area; if white spots are present, gently scrape them off with fingernails first, then apply medication. Among the three conditions of newborn umbilical tetanus (Neonatal Tetanus), cheiloschisis (sucking-mouth), and trismus (lockjaw), prevention is paramount to avoid occurrence; if a patient already suffers from these, they are mostly difficult to treat.
Main Formula (for treating trismus and inability to suckle): Chan Tui (Cicada Slough, *Cryptotympanae Pupa*) (20 pieces, remove head and feet), Quan Xie (Scorpion, *Scorpio*) (7 pieces, wash, stir-fry), Qing Fen (Calomel, *Hydrargyri Chloridum Vapouratum*) (a small amount).
Grind the above into powder, mix with breast milk, and administer orally.
Quan Xie San (Scorpion Powder): Quan Xie (Scorpion, *Scorpio*) (20 pieces, wash, stir-fry), Zhu Sha (Cinnabar, *Cinnabaris*), Peng Sha (Borax, *Borax*), Bing Pian (Borneol, *Borneolum Syntheticum*), She Xiang (Musk, *Moschus)* (each 2.5 fen).
Grind the above into powder, mix with the lactating mother's saliva, and apply to the inside of the infant's lips and teeth. Alternatively, mix with pig milk and introduce into the mouth.
Another Prescription: Wu Gong (Centipede, *Scolopendra*) (dry ones from pharmacies, remove feet, roast until scorched and grind into powder), add a small amount of She Xiang (Musk, *Moschus*), mix with pig milk. Or use pig milk alone to treat infant trismus.
Due to heat received in the womb, heat-toxin becomes excessive and obstructs the anus, leading to blockage and lack of lubrication, thus causing this condition. Urgently have a woman rinse her mouth with warm water and perform suction therapy on seven areas of the infant: the anterior chest, posterior back, below the navel, and the palms and soles of both hands and feet, repeating four or five times. Then, dissolve 5 fen of Qing Fen (Calomel, *Hydrargyri Chloridum Vapouratum*) with a little honey in warm water, and administer small amounts frequently, stopping when bowel movement is achieved. If still blocked, it indicates internal closure of the anus; one should use an object to penetrate it. A gold hairpin is best (must be thick and smooth), followed by a jade hairpin. Insert about two cun deep, insert a strip made of Su He Wan (Styrax Pill) into the opening, considering it improved when feces are discharged. (Abdominal distension and inability to suckle lead to death within seven days.) Alternatively, use the Pig Gallbladder Enema method (see Constipation), combined with Su He Wan (Styrax Pill) (formula see Cold Damage).
If a newborn has heat-pathogen in the Stomach and Chest, they will frequently stretch their limbs, make hiccuping sounds, strain their breath, forcing the Qi into the umbilical and abdominal region, causing the umbilicus to swell, turn red, and enlarge. This is caused by the mother suffering from shock-heat; do not apply toxic drugs externally.
Main Formula: Zhi Zi Ren (Gardenia Seed, *Gardeniae Fructus*) (stir-fried), Bai Zhu (Atractylodes Rhizome, *Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma*), Bai Fu Ling (Poria, *Poria*), Zhu Ling (Polyporus, *Polyporus Umbellatus*), Ze Xie (Alisma Rhizome, *Alismatis Rhizoma*) (equal parts), Guan Gui (Cinnamon Twig, *Cinnamomi Ramulus*) (half dose).
Grind the above into powder, take 3 fen per dose, mixed with honey water or Jixin Tang (Centella Decoction), twice daily.
Er Dou San (Two Beans Powder): Chi Xiao Dou (Adzuki Bean, *Vigna angularis*), Dan Dou Chi (Prepared Soybean, *Sojae Preparata*), Nan Xing (Arisaema Rhizome, *Arisaematis Rhizoma Praeparatum*), Bai Lian (Belamcanda Rhizome, *Belamcandae Rhizoma*) (each 1 qian).
Grind the above into powder, take 5 fen per dose, mix with natural juice of Ba Jiao Ye (Banana Leaf, *Musa Basjoo Folium*) and apply around the affected area once daily. Healing is indicated when urine turns white.
