Mainly treats infantile night crying; place the herb under the mother's sleeping mat without her knowledge.
Mainly treats "Xi Du" (stream poison) and "She Gong" (a venomous insect living near water that can shoot sand to cause injury). Juice is extracted by crushing and taken orally; the dregs are applied externally to sores to stop bleeding.
Hundred-One Formula: There are many varieties of "Tun Er" (Pig's Ear), it is unclear which one is correct. The white leaves of Song Cai (Chinese Cabbage) are also called Tun Er. *Yan Shi Jia Xun* records: Ma Xian is also named Tun Er, which is Portulaca Oleracea (Purslane).
Applied to treat metal weapon wounds (Jin Chuang), it stops bleeding and promotes flesh regeneration, causing the sore to turn black. Nowadays, if candle wax drips down, it foreshadows happy events; otherwise, it is an omen of gaining money.
Mainly treats poisoning from snake, scorpion, and insect bites. The herb is crushed and applied to the wound to promote tissue regeneration and relieve pain. It grows in the Jiangnan region, reaching a height of two or three chi.
Mainly treats Ding Chuang (carbuncle/furuncle). Mix equal parts of Bai Ya (White Ochre), Yang Ti Cai (Shepherd's Purse or similar), Qing Tai (Green Moss), Ban Xia (Pinellia Rhizome), Di Gu Pi (Cortex Lycii), Feng Ke (Beehive), Xiao Er Fa (Child's Hair), and Fei Bo (Red Silk). Process them into ash. On the fifth day of the fifth lunar month, mix the herbal powders and take one Qian Bi (a small measuring spoonful) dose; this will cause the root of the Ding Chuang to be expelled.
Wild Lang Ba Cao
The autumn seeds can be used to dye soap, turning black hair dark and preventing aging. It grows beside mountain paths.
*Tu Jing* states: Wild Lang Ba Cao mainly treats blood dysentery in men, but not in women. For chronic childhood malnutrition dysentery (Gan Li), use its roots; frequent consumption in folk practice is effective. For those suffering from blood dysentery, take two jin of the herb, crush and extract one sheng of juice, add flour equivalent to half an egg yolk, mix evenly, and drink on an empty stomach in one dose. For severe cases, no more than three doses are needed. If fresh herbs are unavailable, collect the seedlings, dry them in the shade, and crush into powder. Dysentery patients take one Fang Cun Bi (square-inch measure) of the powder, mixed with half a cup of honey water. Minister Yu Xi et al. note: Wild Lang Ba Cao appeared in recent times and was not found in ancient prescriptions. Although Chen Cangqi mentioned it darkens hair and prevents aging, growing by roadsides, his description was not detailed. Emperor Taizong's imperial writing records its therapeutic effects very precisely; we have included it at the beginning of the external category in *Bencao Tujing*.
Mainly treats axillary odor (body odor) and metal weapon wounds. Harvest on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month. Collect dew-covered herbs, dry one hundred types in the shade. Burn to ash, form into cakes using Jing Hua Shui (first-drawn well water in the morning), re-burn until white, mix with strong vinegar to form cakes, and apply between the armpits; replace when dry. This may induce whole-body pain and discomfort, stopping once sores erupt. Wash with water or urine, no more than two or three times. It also treats metal weapon wounds, stopping bleeding and promoting tissue regeneration; take ash mixed with Duan Shi (calcined pyrite or hematite powder), form into cakes, burn until white, scrape the powder, and apply to the wound.
