Decoct with water and take orally. After one dose, symptoms alleviate; after two doses, symptoms further alleviate; after three doses, complete recovery occurs.
This formula treats both the Lung and Stomach simultaneously. Tonifying Qi in the Stomach is equivalent to tonifying Qi in the Lung; clearing Fire from the Lung is equivalent to clearing Fire from the Stomach; dispelling pathogenic factors from the Lung is equivalent to dispelling pathogenic factors from the Stomach. When pathogenic factors invade the Lung, they invariably enter the Yangming channel (Yangming Meridian). Once pathogenic factors in the Lung are dispersed, how could they escape into the Yangming channel?
This condition can also be treated with Laifu Tang (Reviving Decoction).
Renshen (Ginseng Radix), Fuling (Poria), Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma), Tianhuafen (Trichosanthis Radix) (each 3 qian), Yuanzhi (Polygalae Radix), Gancao (Licorice Root) (each 1 qian), Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma) (0.3 qian), Maidong (Ophiopogonis Radix) (1 liang), Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium) (0.3 qian), Zisu Ye (Perilla Leaf) (1.5 qian).
Decoct with water and take orally.
Some individuals talk loudly all day long and gather to converse throughout the night, leading to dry mouth and tongue, and mental fatigue. Consequently, they contract wind-cold, presenting with headache, nasal congestion, rapid breathing, and wheezing. People assume this is an external contraction of wind pathogen, little knowing it is actually an internal injury of Qi and Blood. Excessive speech damages Qi, and since Blood is generated by Qi, when Qi is damaged, Blood is inevitably damaged as well. Moreover, excessive speech depletes Body Fluids, which are also considered remnants of Yin Blood. Qi belongs to the Lung, and Blood belongs to the Liver; injury to both Qi and Blood implies injury to both the Lung and Liver, making them most susceptible to invasion by pathogenic factors. Since the pathogen has taken advantage of the deficiency of the Lung and Liver to penetrate deeply into these two meridians, causing Qi to rebel downward while failing to ascend upward, how should it be treated? The treatment should still focus on correcting the deficiency of the Lung and Liver, supplemented slightly with herbs that disperse pathogenic factors.
Prescribe Liangzhi Tang (Dual-Treatment Decoction):
Baishao (White Peony Root) (5 qian), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix) (3 qian), Maidong (Ophiopogonis Radix) (5 qian), Renshen (Ginseng Radix) (1 qian), Gancao (Licorice Root) (1 qian), Jiegeng (Platycodon Root) (2 qian), Zisu Ye (Perilla Leaf) (0.8 fen), Tianhuafen (Trichosanthis Radix) (1 qian).
Decoct with water and take orally.
This formula enters the Liver and Lung, treating Qi tonification, Blood tonification, phlegm resolution, and fire clearance separately. Efficacy can be achieved in two doses; there is no need for excessive use.
This condition can also be effectively treated with Jiabuzhong Tang (Modified Bu Zhong Yi Qi Decoction).
Shengdi (Rehmanniae Radix), Renshen (Ginseng Radix), Fuling (Poria) (each 3 qian), Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix) (each 5 qian), Gancao (Licorice Root), Banxia (Pinelliae Tuber) (each 1 qian), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix) (1 liang), Chuanxiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma) (1 qian), Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix) (1 qian).
Decoct with water and take orally.
Some individuals indulge in sleep and lying down, wandering in bed all day, thereby allowing wind pathogen to invade. They present with body pain, backache, fever, and aversion to wind. People assume this is an external contraction of wind, little knowing it is an internal injury of Spleen Qi. The Spleen governs the four limbs; limb fatigue and excessive desire for sleep occur because Spleen Qi fails to move and transform. Slight rest can nourish the exhaustion of Spleen Qi, but excessive sleeping prevents Spleen Qi from awakening, thereby damaging Qi. Already deficient becoming more deficient, how can it not invite external wind? Treating only the wind will inevitably damage Spleen Qi; since Spleen Qi is weak and invites wind, dispelling wind further injures Spleen Qi, and the pathogen, bullying the weakness of Spleen Qi, refuses to exit. People do not know to use methods to tonify the Spleen, often resulting in a swarm of complicated syndromes.
Treat with Bu Zhong Yi Qi Tang (Tonify the Middle and Augment the Qi Decoction) with modifications.
Renshen (Ginseng Radix) (3 qian), Huangqi (Astragali Radix) (5 qian), Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) (5 qian), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix) (2 qian), Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium) (0.5 fen), Gancao (Licorice Root) (1 qian), Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma) (0.3 fen), Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix) (1 qian), Banxia (Pinelliae Tuber) (1 qian), Shenqu (Massa Medicata Fermentata) (1 qian).
Decoct with water and take orally. After one dose, symptoms alleviate; after two doses, symptoms further alleviate; after three doses, complete recovery occurs.
Bu Zhong Yi Qi Tang is the sacred medicine for tonifying the Spleen. Given prolonged sleep leading to sinking of Spleen Qi, it is precisely suitable for using this formula to lift the sinking Qi. Banxia and Shenqu are added because prolonged sleep causes Spleen Qi to remain unawakened, leading to phlegm generation from diet; these two herbs are best at awakening the Spleen.
This condition can also be effectively treated with Jiawei Yiqi Tang (Modified Yiqi Decoction).
Renshen (Ginseng Radix) (2 qian), Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) (5 qian), Gancao (Licorice Root) (1 qian), Fuling (Poria) (3 qian), Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium) (0.5 fen), Banxia (Pinelliae Tuber) (1 qian), Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix) (1 qian).
Decoct with water and take orally.
Some individuals gamble all day and play cards late into the night, resulting in soreness and pain of sinews and bones, heavy legs, and abdominal hunger. This leads to contracting wind pathogen, generalized body pain, and alternating chills and fever. People assume this is an external contraction of wind, little knowing it is an internal injury of Blood and Qi. In daily life, Qi and Blood are easily damaged; gambling and card-playing exhaust the Mind (Shen), causing even greater damage to Qi and Blood. Regrettably, people use this for leisure, dissipating Qi and Blood. Even after pathogens have entered the body, they remain unaware. If physicians ignore the cause of internal injury and treat only external contraction, Righteous Qi becomes more deficient while Pathogenic factors become stronger, leading either to consumption disease (Lao Zhai) or chronic debility. Therefore, the treatment must greatly tonify Qi and Blood, adding slight harmonizing agents, so that Righteous Qi is sufficient to expel pathogens, which will naturally scatter outward.
Treat with Shiquan Dabu Tang (Complete Great Tonification Decoction) with modifications.
Renshen (Ginseng Radix) (3 qian), Huangqi (Astragali Radix) (5 qian), Chuanxiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma) (1 qian), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix) (3 qian), Fuling (Poria) (3 qian), Gancao (Licorice Root) (1 qian), Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) (3 qian), Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium) (0.5 fen), Baishao (White Peony Root) (3 qian), Shudi (Prepared Rehmanniae Radix) (3 qian), Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix) (1 qian).
Decoct with water and take orally. After one dose, sweating resolves the exterior; after two doses, fever subsides; continuous administration for several doses leads to complete recovery.
This formula tonifies both Qi and Blood. For Qi and Blood deficiency, there is no second prescription like this. The original formula contains Rougui (Cinnamon Bark) to tonify Mingmen Fire, but gamblers tend to have excess Fire and insufficient Water. Thus, Rougui is removed and replaced with Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix), harmonizing and supplementing, making pathogen dispersion easier.
This condition can also be effectively treated with Liangzhi Tang (Dual-Treatment Decoction).
Shengdi (Rehmanniae Radix), Renshen (Ginseng Radix) (each 3 qian), Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) (5 qian), Fuling (Poria) (3 qian), Gancao (Licorice Root), Banxia (Pinelliae Tuber), Chuanxiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma), Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix) (each 1 qian), Huangqi (Astragali Radix) (1 liang), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix) (5 qian).
Decoct with water and take orally.
Some individuals compete fiercely and fight, sometimes exposing themselves naked or bleeding without feeling pain, allowing wind pathogen to invade the skin. They present with aversion to cold, fever, headache, and hypochondriac pain. People assume this is an external contraction of wind, little knowing it is an internal injury of sinews and bones. Sinews belong to the Liver, and bones belong to the Kidney. When Liver Blood is sufficient, sinews relax; when Kidney Water is full, bones are strong. Thus, sinews and bones must be filled with Marrow and Blood. Among those who deplete Marrow and Blood, none exceed those who leak Essence, which everyone knows. However, fighting depletes Marrow and Blood, which is not fully known. During fights, anger arises, causing the Liver lobes to expand, blood fails to store, and blood is consumed. Once Liver Blood is depleted, it draws upon Kidney Water. Kidney Water nourishes the Liver, leading to internal burning of Wood and Fire, which easily dries up. If the Kidney cannot supply the insufficiency of Liver Blood, how can it distribute to the Marrow in the bones? With neither Blood nor Marrow in surplus, how can sinews relax and bones be strong? When sinews and bones lack vigorous Qi, wind pathogen invades due to deficiency, unable to resist. The treatment should urgently rescue the deficiency.
Treat with Siwu Tang (Four Substances Decoction) with modifications.
Shudi (Prepared Rehmanniae Radix) (1 liang), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix) (5 qian), Chuanxiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma) (1 qian), Baishao (White Peony Root) (5 qian), Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix) (1 qian), Niuxi (Achyranthis Bidentatae Radix) (3 qian), Jincha Shihu (Dendrobii Nobile Caulis) (2 qian), Danpi (Moutan Cortex) (2 qian), Baijiezi (Sinapis Semen) (1 qian).
Decoct with water and take orally.
Siwu Tang is a blood-tonifying herb, but also a marrow-tonifying herb. Originally, because Marrow and Blood were deficient, pathogens invaded; tonifying Marrow and Blood makes pathogen expulsion easy. Thus, slight Chaihu is added to harmonize and resolve wind pathogen, scattering it immediately. Those who treat only wind without tonifying Marrow and Blood are ignorant of treating internal injuries.
This condition can also be effectively treated with Hugusan (Bone-Protecting Powder).
Niuxi (Achyranthis Bidentatae Radix), Danpi (Moutan Cortex) (each 3 qian), Jincha Shihu (Dendrobii Nobile Caulis), Shanzhuyu (Corni Fructus) (each 2 qian), Shudi (Prepared Rehmanniae Radix), Baishao (White Peony Root), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix) (each 5 qian), Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix), Tianhuafen (Trichosanthis Radix) (each 1 qian).
Decoct with water and take orally.
Some individuals fish all day, immersing their bodies in water, experiencing intermittent fever, aversion to cold, and chilling. People assume this is an external contraction of wind-dampness, little knowing it is obstruction of Lung Qi. The Lung governs Qi; when Qi is vigorous, it circulates throughout the body and escapes through the skin and hair. Even with external pathogens, damage does not occur. If Lung Qi is slightly deficient, Qi stagnation may occur. Immersion in water restricts the skin and hair, making it difficult for deficient Qi to circulate, and dampness invades. Dampness is externally acquired, now entering via the skin, causing obstruction of Qi throughout the body, leading to aversion to cold and chilling. Since Lung Qi is deficient, the skin and hair cannot defend externally; cold water chills Metal, and Lung Qi battles dampness, generating fever. This fever results from Lung Qi deficiency failing to resist pathogens. The treatment should primarily tonify Lung Qi, accompanied by diuretic herbs, so that Righteous Qi becomes vigorous and pathogens disperse easily.
Prescribe Lilu Tang (Benefit Lung Decoction):
Zisu Ye (Perilla Leaf) (1 qian), Renshen (Ginseng Radix) (2 qian), Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) (3 qian), Fuling (Poria) (5 qian), Gancao (Licorice Root) (1 qian), Jiegeng (Platycodon Root) (1 qian), Banxia (Pinelliae Tuber) (1 qian), Shenqu (Massa Medicata Fermentata) (0.3 fen), Fuzi (Prepared Aconiti Lateralis Radix) (0.1 fen).
Decoct with water and take orally. After one dose, fever resolves; after two doses, aversion to cold disappears; after three doses, complete recovery occurs.
This formula tonifies insufficient Lung Qi. Although no explicit diuretics are seen, water naturally exits via the Bladder. Because internal injury led to pathogen invasion, there is no need to treat external contraction.
This condition can also be effectively treated with Xuanbi Tang (Open Obstruction Decoction).
Huangqi (Astragali Radix), Fuling (Poria) (each 5 qian), Renshen (Ginseng Radix), Zhuling (Polyporus) (each 3 qian), Zexie (Alismatis Rhizoma) (2 qian), Banxia (Pinelliae Tuber), Rougui (Cinnamon Bark), Qianghuo (Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix) (each 1 qian).
Decoct with water and take orally.
Some individuals suffer from endless worry and thought, compounded by irregular diet, injuring the Spleen and Stomach. Their complexion is dark and lusterless, especially around the lips. They feel hungry but dislike food, experience shortness of breath, and rapid respiration. People assume this is an internal injury, little knowing it is reversal of Yin and Yang. The Heart and Lung reside in the Upper Jiao, circulating Ying and Wei and providing luster externally. The Kidney and Liver reside in the Lower Jiao, nourishing sinews and bones internally. The Spleen and Stomach reside in the Middle Jiao, transforming and transporting essences, irrigating the four Zang organs. The four Zang rely entirely on Spleen and Stomach Qi. If the Spleen and Stomach are injured, the four Zang lose their source; Spleen and Stomach disease leads to disease in all four Zang. Endless worry knots Spleen and Stomach Qi; irregular diet damages Spleen and Stomach Qi. The mouth is the pathway for Spleen Qi; lips are the gate of the mouth. Spleen Qi connects to the mouth and manifests in the lips. Metal and Water insult Earth, so black color appears on the lips. Is this not Yin-Yang reversal? It is not merely decline of the Yangming Stomach meridian causing facial withering; both Yin and Yang Qi of the Spleen and Stomach are deficient. How can we not urgently rescue the Earth of the Central State?
Preshe Hesun Tang (Harmonious and Smooth Decoction):
Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma) (0.5 fen), Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix) (0.3 fen), Baizhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix) (0.3 fen), Huangqi (Astragali Radix) (3 qian), Renshen (Ginseng Radix) (2 qian), Gancao (Licorice Root) (0.3 fen), Baishao (White Peony Root) (3 qian), Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) (5 qian), Fushen (Poria with Hostwood) (3 qian), Paojiang (Prepared Ginger) (0.5 fen).
Take before noon. Continuous administration for ten doses removes black color completely; another ten doses cure all diseases.
This formula is a variation of Bu Zhong Yi Qi Tang, lifting Yang Qi to disperse Yin Qi. When Yang Qi sinks into Yin, Bu Zhong Yi Qi Tang lifts Yang Qi. When Yin Qi floats up into Yang, this formula lifts and disperses Yin Qi, both achieving rapid efficacy.
This condition can also be effectively treated with Niaozhi Tang (Regulate Reversal Decoction).
Renshen (Ginseng Radix), Fuling (Poria), Baishao (White Peony Root), Shengdi (Rehmanniae Radix), Shashen (Glehniae Radix) (each 3 qian), Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) (5 qian), Gancao (Licorice Root) (0.5 fen), Suzi (Perillae Fructus), Shenqu (Massa Medicata Fermentata) (each 1 qian), Jingjie (Schizonepetae Spica) (2 qian).
Decoct with water and take orally.
Some individuals suffer from palpitations and forgetfulness, bland taste, dry tongue, excessive sweating, flaccid limbs, fever, white and turbid urine, and a large, empty, and rapid pulse. People assume this is an internal injury. Little do they know it results from excessive thinking. Jun Huo (Monarch Fire) is Heart Fire; Xiang Huo (Minister Fire) is Fire in the Shaofu (Pericardium). The Shaofu Hand-Jueyin meridian is Yin in nature but governs Heat. Ancients called it Jueyang because its Fire rises uncontrollably. Yue Ren said: Worry and thought injure the Heart. Once Heart Qi is injured, Heart Blood is consumed. Once Heart Blood is consumed, Heart Qi loses autonomy and tends to delegate authority to Minister Fire. Minister Fire, bullying the weakness of Monarch Fire, seizes Heart authority and acts recklessly. The treatment should use Water to balance Fire. However, seeing fierce Fire, using cold-cooling herbs to balance it further weakens Heart Qi, exacerbating scorching harm. One should urgently tonify deficient Heart Qi and greatly nourish dried-up Kidney Water. Then Heart Fire calms, Minister Fire settles, and finds peace.
Prescribe Kanli Liangbu Tang (Kan-Li Dual Tonification Decoction):
Renshen (Ginseng Radix) (5 qian), Shudi (Prepared Rehmanniae Radix) (1 liang), Tusizi (Cuscutae Semen) (3 qian), Shengdi (Rehmanniae Radix) (5 qian), Maidong (Ophiopogonis Radix) (5 qian), Danpi (Moutan Cortex) (2 qian), Chao Zaoren (Fried Ziziphus Seed) (3 qian), Bei Wuweizi (Schisandrae Chinensis Fructus) (1 qian), Fuling (Poria) (3 qian), Sangye (Mori Folium) (14 leaves), Shanyao (Dioscoreae Rhizoma) (5 qian), Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) (3 qian).
Decoct with water and take orally. Continuous administration for dozens of doses leads to recovery.
This formula tonifies both Heart and Kidney. Kidney Water ascends to nourish the Heart; with sufficient Water, Fire has no danger of hyperactivity, naturally extinguishing and bringing moistening joy. The Heart remains pure with external transmission, so the Pericardium dares not usurp power, inevitably cooperating for survival.
This condition can also be effectively treated with Zhenshen Tang (Spirit-Calming Decoction).
Renshen (Ginseng Radix), Chao Zaoren (Fried Ziziphus Seed), Fuling (Poria), Shanyao (Dioscoreae Rhizoma) (each 5 qian), Yuanzhi (Polygalae Radix) (1 qian), Bajitian (Morindae Officinalis Radix) (3 qian), Gancao (Licorice Root) (0.5 fen), Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma) (0.3 fen).
Decoct with water and take orally.
Some individuals suffer from fatigue and summerheat stroke. Taking Xiangru Yin (Elsholtzia Decoction) instead aggravates floating Deficient Fire, causing red face, body heat, and rapid, forceless pulses in all six positions. People assume summer-heat fire persists, little knowing it is internal injury of Middle Qi. When Middle Qi is sufficient, summer-heat pathogen cannot invade; summer-heat invasion is always invited by Qi deficiency. Internal deficiency fever requires treating deficiency, not pathogen. Moreover, in summer, Yin hides internally; combined with severe cold, it agitates rising Deficient Fire, constituting a syndrome of Yin excess blocking Yang. The treatment should tonify Yang and retreat Yin. However, during Yin excess and Yang deficiency, sudden use of Yang herbs among Yin may be rejected. One must use hot herbs with cold administration to comply with Yin-cold nature and achieve Yang-tonifying effects.
Prescribe Shunyin Tang (Comply with Yin Decoction):
Renshen (Ginseng Radix) (3 qian), Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) (5 qian), Fuling (Poria) (3 qian), Fuzi (Prepared Aconiti Lateralis Radix) (2 qian), Jiangtang (Dried Ginger) (1 qian), Qinghao (Artemisiae Annuae Herba) (2 qian), Bian Dou (Vigna Radiata Semen) (3 qian).
Decoct, cool until ice-cold, then take orally. Mild sweating will occur, leading to recovery.
This formula uses Ginger and Aconite within Ginseng and Atractylodes, which is too hot and incompatible with Yin. Adding cold-dispersing Qinghao appeals to its preference. Hot herbs taken cold prevent upper heat from clashing; by the time it reaches the Middle Jiao, cold nature dissipates and hot nature activates, ensuring compatibility rather than rejection.
This condition can also be effectively treated with Renshen Zhuer Xiang Tang (Ginseng, Atractylodes, and Two Fragrant Herbs Decoction).
Renshen (Ginseng Radix) (3 qian), Xiangru (Elsholtziae Herba) (1 qian), Gancao (Licorice Root) (1 qian), Sharen (Amomi Fructus) (1 grain), Shenqu (Massa Medicata Fermentata) (0.5 fen), Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) (2 qian), Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium) (0.5 fen), Huoxiang (Agastaches Herba) (5 qian).
Decoct with water and take orally.
Some individuals with constitutionally weak physique suddenly contract wind pathogen. The whole body feels tingling, moving like insects crawling, starting from the left leg, ascending to the head, descending to the right leg, with audible itching sensations. People consider it a strange disease, little knowing it is internal injury with insufficient Qi. Qi and Blood flow continuously; why would illness arise? Only when Qi and Blood stop flowing does itching appear between skin and hair, indicating Qi and Blood decline. Severe decline scorches skin and hair; mild decline causes shedding. With declined Qi and Blood and slight pathogen retention, the body attempts spontaneous sweating, but pathogen stays, battling in the skin, causing itching resembling insect movement, though no real insects exist. In Shanghan (Cold Damage) cases, excessive sweating leading to Yang collapse also presents with body sensation like crawling insects. Although Shanghan is external, Yang collapse transforms it into internal injury. Now, without Shanghan, yet showing crawling insect signs, it must be internal injury. The treatment should greatly tonify Qi and Blood; once Qi and Blood flow, itching self-resolves.
Prescribe Bu Zhong Yi Qi Tang (Tonify the Middle and Augment the Qi Decoction):
Renshen (Ginseng Radix) (1 liang), Huangqi (Astragali Radix) (1 liang), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix) (5 qian), Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) (5 qian), Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium) (0.5 fen), Gancao (Licorice Root) (1 qian), Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma) (0.5 fen), Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix) (1 qian), Xuanshen (Scrophulariae Radix) (3 qian), Sangye (Mori Folium) (20 leaves).
Decoct with water and take orally. Ten doses lead to complete recovery.
Bu Zhong Yi Qi Tang is a divine agent for greatly tonifying Qi and Blood. Using more Renshen and Huangqi particularly tonifies Qi; vigorous Qi makes Blood vigorous and promotes circulation. Xuanshen and Sangye are added because itching often relates to Fire; they clear floating Fire. Sangye stops sweating; since excessive sweating causes itching, stopping sweat stops itching.
This condition can also be effectively treated with Canxie Guiqi Tang (Silkworm, Scorpion, Angelica, and Astragalus Decoction).
Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Huangqi (Astragali Radix) (each 5 qian), Fuling (Poria) (3 qian), Jiangcan (Bombyx Batryticatus), Banxia (Pinelliae Tuber) (each 1 qian), Quanxie (Scorpio) (1 unit), Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium) (0.5 fen).
Decoct with water and take orally.
Some individuals with pale complexion and timid spirit experience autumn fever, headache, vomiting, diarrhea, poor appetite, frequent eye closing, hoarse voice, confusion, loss of consciousness, difficulty swallowing porridge and drinks, and constant rubbing of the scrotum. People assume it is severe wind-cold, little knowing it is spleen injury from fatigue. Qi is originally harmonious Yang; bodily fatigue transforms harmonious Yang into pathogenic heat, without needing external wind for fever. All Yang meridians converge at the head; once Yang Qi is deficient, Clear Yang fails to ascend, and pathogenic heat takes over, steaming the head causing pain, without needing external wind. If Clear Yang fails to ascend, Turbid Qi fails to descend, disrupting upper and lower, causing vomiting and diarrhea. Vessels relate to eyes; eye sockets belong to Spleen. With Spleen Qi injured, eyes lack nourishment and must close. Spleen collaterals connect to the tongue base; Spleen injury causes tongue collateral malnourishment, leading to speech difficulty. Although throat connects to Lung, Spleen deficiency causes all five Zang deficiency; Lung deficiency impairs throat function, and Heart Spirit becomes confused. The scrotum belongs to the Liver; Spleen deficiency allows Liver to invade. Frequent scrotal rubbing fears Liver Wood excess. Extreme Earth deficiency manifests Wind-Wood imagery. The treatment should strongly strengthen Spleen Earth, eliminating Wind-Wood imagery.
Prescribe Bu Zhong Yi Qi Tang (Tonify the Middle and Augment the Qi Decoction):
Renshen (Ginseng Radix) (3 qian), Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) (5 qian), Huangqi (Astragali Radix) (5 qian), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix) (3 qian), Fuling (Poria) (3 qian), Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium) (0.3 fen), Gancao (Licorice Root) (0.5 fen), Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix) (1 qian), Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma) (0.3 fen), Zhi Fuzi (Prepared Aconiti Lateralis Radix) (0.3 fen).
Decoct with water and take orally. Two doses alleviate symptoms; ten doses lead to complete recovery.
The disease is fundamentally internal injury; Bu Zhong Yi Qi Tang fits the pathology. Adding Fuzi is because Renshen, Huangqi, Danggui, and Baizhu require Fuzi for significant efficacy and miraculous action. Using only 0.3 fen avoids excessive heat, accelerating correction.
This condition can also be effectively treated with Jiawei Guipi Tang (Modified Guipi Decoction).
Renshen (Ginseng Radix), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Fuling (Poria), Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma), Baishao (White Peony Root) (each 3 qian), Gancao (Licorice Root), Banxia (Pinelliae Tuber) (each 0.5 fen), Chuanxiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma) (2 qian), Baidoukou (Amomi Fructus Rotundus) (1 grain).
