The center of the tongue is red. Menstrual blood was initially pale and turned purple. The primary treatment should be softening the Liver to clear the Lung. (October 13th, corresponding to the 4th day of the 9th lunar month.)
Prescription: *Dong Sang Ye* (Folium Mori, 3 qian), *Nan Sha Shen* (Radix Adenophorae, 3 qian), *Wu Zei Gu* (Endoconcha Sepiae, 1.5 qian), *Sheng Bai Shao* (Radix Paeoniae Alba, 1.5 qian), *Chao Lv Jiao* (Colla Corii Asini, 1.5 qian), *Chuan Bei* (Bulbus Fritillariae Cirrhosae, 2 qian), *Fen Dan Pi* (Cortex Moutan, 3 qian), *Dan Qiu Shi* (Lapis Aquae Dulcis, 8 fen), *Sheng Shi Jue Ming* (Concha Arcae, 6 qian), *Zi Wan* (Herba Asteris Tatarici, 1.5 qian), *Tian Xing Ren* (Semen Armeniacae Amarum, 3 qian). Guide herb: *Pi Pa Ye* (Folium Eriobotryae, 5 leaves, de-hairy).
Five doses.
Commentary by Shao Jie: Liver Yang rebels upward, attacking the Lung causing cough. Both Lung fluids and Stomach fluids are scorched, causing menstrual blood to change from pale to purple. Therefore, the treatment employs clearing the Liver, extinguishing wind, nourishing the Stomach, and generating fluids.
[Case 2]
Zhao, a woman from Huachuan: Menstrual cycle is irregular. The left pulse is choppy, the right pulse is wiry. The center of the tongue is peeled (bare). Symptoms include dizziness and hoarseness. Commentary by Shao Jie: Kidney fluids are deficient and fail to ascend to the Heart. Liver Yin is depleted, leading to Jue Yang transforming into wind which scorches the Lung, causing hoarseness and dizziness. Treatment uses Ejiao Jizihuang Tang (Donkey-hide Gelatin and Egg Yolk Decoction) combined with herbs that soften the Liver and nourish fluids. This is indeed an effective prescription for this condition.
[Case 3]

Decocted in clear water for five doses.
Commentary by Shao Jie: Constitutionally Yin deficient, affecting both Chong and Ren vessels, leading to lower back pain radiating to the abdomen, menstrual irregularities with leukorrhea. Internal wind floats upward to the vertex, causing dizziness and toothache. Treatment focused on softening the Liver, extinguishing wind, nourishing fluids, and tonifying the Kidney, which resolved the headache and toothache. Subsequently, due to persistent abdominal pain, Qi-regulating and Blood-invigorating herbs were used.
[Case 4]
A certain patient: Internal Liver wind causes tremors. Palpitations (heart fright), dizziness, trembling limbs. Right pulse is wiry and deficient. Menstruation accompanied by lower back pain. Treatment should soften the Liver, extinguish wind, and settle the Spirit.

Guide herb: *Deng Xin* (Medulla Junci, 7 strands).
Five doses.
Commentary by Shao Jie: The Kidney fails to generate fluids, causing heart fright and lower back pain during menstruation. The Liver fails to nourish the sinews, causing internal wind to float, leading to dizziness and limb tremors. Current treatment softens the Liver and extinguishes wind to relieve dizziness, while settling the Spirit and tonifying the Kidney. This is indeed a symptomatic therapy.
[Case 5]
Yu, from Anchang: Stool is slightly moist. Root of the tongue is slightly yellow. Pulse is soggy. Tendons at the temples twitch and cause pain. This is caused by floating internal wind. Treatment should clear the Liver, extinguish wind, and promote diuresis/dampness removal. (September 24th.)
Prescription: *Sang Ye* (Folium Mori, 3 qian), *Huang Cao Shi Hu* (Herba Dendrobii Nobiles, 3 qian), *Rui Ren* (Semen Pruni Armeniacae, 1.5 qian), *Ku Ding Cha* (Folium Ilicis Kudingcha, 1.5 qian), *Gan Ju* (Flos Chrysanthemi, 2 qian), *Sheng Shi Jue Ming* (Concha Arcae, 6 qian), *Fu Ling* (Poria, 4 qian), *Tong Cao* (Medulla Tetrapanacis, 1.5 qian), *Gou Teng* (Caulis Uncariae cum Uncis, 3 qian), *Ci Ji Li* (Fructus Tribuli, 3 qian), *Dan Zhu Ye* (Folium Lophatheri, 1.5 qian).
Decocted in clear water for three doses.
Commentary by Shao Jie: Stomach deficiency with dampness retention. Liver Yang transforms into wind which does not subside, rising directly to the vertex, causing pain at the temples. Therefore, treatment employs formulas that clear the Liver and drain dampness.
