Treats lung abscess (Fei Yong) causing chest fullness and distension. Generalized edema of the body, face, and eyelids. Nasal congestion with clear discharge. Loss of smell, unable to perceive fragrant, foul, sour, or pungent odors. Cough with rebellious Qi ascending. Wheezing with audible sounds and airway obstruction. This decoction is indicated. (Formula seen above. One dose every three days, up to three or four doses. Must first administer Xiao Qing Long Tang (Minor Blue Dragon Decoction) for one dose, then proceed.)
Treats Ben Tun (Running Piglet) where Qi rushes upward to the chest, accompanied by abdominal pain and alternating chills and fever. This decoction is indicated.
Gan Cao (Licorice Root), Dang Gui (Angelica Sinensis), Xiong (Ligusticum Chuanxiong), Huang Qin (Scutellaria Baicalensis), Shao Yao (White Peony Root) (each 2 liang). Ban Xia (Pinellia Tuber), Sheng Jiang (Fresh Ginger) (each 4 liang). Sheng Ge Gen (Pueraria Root) (5 liang). Gan Li Gen Bai Pi (Bark of Prunus Sibirica Root) (1 sheng).
The above nine ingredients are boiled in 2 dou of water, reduced to 5 sheng. Take 1 sheng warm, three times daily and once at night.
Song says: Qi rushing and abdominal pain is called Ben Tun (Running Piglet). Four taels each of Ban Xia (Pinellia Tuber) and Sheng Jiang (Fresh Ginger), five taels of Ge Gen (Pueraria Root). Two taels each of Dang Gui (Angelica Sinensis), Shao Yao (White Peony Root), Xiong (Ligusticum Chuanxiong), Huang Qin (Scutellaria Baicalensis), and Gan Cao (Licorice Root). The bark of Li tree root must be calculated as one sheng.
According to Shang Han Lun (Treatise on Cold Damage): The disease of Jue Yin (Lesser Yang) manifests as Qi rushing upward to the heart. Now, Ben Tun (Running Piglet) presents with alternating chills and fever and abdominal pain; this indicates pathogenic factors in the Liver channel, with Qi communicating through Yin and Yang.
Xu Zhongke states: This formula combines Gui Zhi Tang (Cinnamon Twig Decoction) and Xiao Chai Hu Tang (Minor Bupleurum Decoction), removing Chai Hu (Bupleurum Root), Gui Zhi (Cinnamon Twig), and Da Zao (Jujube), applying the treatment method for combined diseases of Tai Yang (Greater Yang) and Shao Yang (Lesser Yang).
You Zaijing states: Fu Ling (Poria) and Gui Zhi (Cinnamon Twig) are the principal medicines for treating Ben Tun (Running Piglet), but they are not used here because the disease does not originate from the Kidney. Note: For those not cured after taking this decoction, Wu Mei Wan (Mume Pill) yields miraculous effects.
(Song seen in Chang Sha Fang Ge Ku (Songs of Formulas from Changsha)). Treats cases where, after sweating therapy, burning needles were used to induce further sweating. The needle sites became cold, developing nodular redness. This will inevitably trigger Ben Tun (Running Piglet), with Qi rising from the lower abdomen to the heart. Moxibustion should be applied to each nodule (one moxa cone per site), and this decoction is indicated.
Gui Zhi Tang (Cinnamon Twig Decoction) (Formula seen in the chapter on Gynecological Diseases of Pregnancy), with an addition of 2 liang of Gui Zhi (Cinnamon Twig).
Yuan Xi notes: Sweating followed by forced sweating severely damages Heart Qi. When Heart Qi is damaged, it cannot descend to connect with Yuan Yang (Primal Yang), causing Kidney Qi to become cold and water to stagnate. Additionally, the needle sites are invaded by cold...
(Song seen in Chang Sha Fang Ge Ku (Songs of Formulas from Changsha)). Treats cases where, after sweating therapy, palpitations occur below the umbilicus, indicating impending Ben Tun (Running Piglet). This decoction is indicated.
Fu Ling (Poria), Gan Cao (Licorice Root), Da Zao (Jujube), Gui Zhi (Cinnamon Twig).
This occurs due to insufficient Heart Qi after sweating, allowing Kidney Qi to invade. Palpitations below the umbilicus are a precursor to Ben Tun (Running Piglet).
Sun Nan Xin Dian notes: Acquired due to fright, it seems only appropriate to treat via the Heart. However, the pathology moves upward from below, stirring Kidney Qi and disrupting the Jue Yin (Lesser Yang) channel...
