The Zhiyin (Bladder 67) acupoint is located at the lateral side of the little finger (toe); Tonggu (Bladder 65) is found in the depression behind the metatarsophalangeal joint. Shugu (Bladder 64) is sought in the depression behind the fifth metatarsophalangeal joint; Jinggu (Bladder 64) is located at the muscle-bone junction below the prominence of the fifth metatarsal bone. Shenmai (Bladder 62), belonging to the Yang Qiao Mai (Yang Heel Vessel), is located below the lateral malleolus; Chengshan (Bladder 57) is taken below the pathway of the Intestine Meridian (Note: Text "Dui Chang" is likely an error, referring to location relative to bladder/intestine meridian path); Chengjin (Bladder 57) is in the center of the same pathway. Heyang (Bladder 38) is one cun below Weizhong (Bladder 40); Weizhong is located in the middle of the popliteal crease. Weiyang (Bladder 39) is between the two tendons on the lateral side; Fuyang (Bladder 59) is one cun above Yanglingquan (Gallbladder 34) (Note: Text "Fu zai yang yi cun shang" is concise, generally referring to Fuyang). Yinmen (Bladder 37) is six cun above [reference point] on the upper posterior thigh; Chengfu (Bladder 36) is below the buttock, ending at Yinchong (Note: "Yin chong zhi" is unclear, possibly a transcription error, treated literally as the boundary area).
The *Nan Jing* (Classic of Difficult Issues) states: There are eight extraordinary vessels among the meridians, which are not restricted to the twelve regular meridians. What does this mean? The answer is: There are Yang Wei Mai (Yang Linking Vessel), Yin Wei Mai (Yin Linking Vessel), Yang Qiao Mai (Yang Heel Vessel), and Yin Qiao Mai (Yin Heel Vessel), along with fifteen collateral vessels. In total, twenty-seven Qi circulate up and down together. Why are they uniquely not restricted to the meridians? The answer is that sages planned and dug channels to facilitate water flow, preparing for emergencies. When rain falls from heaven and channels overflow, causing waters to flood wildly, even a sage cannot redraw the plans. This is analogous to when collateral vessels are full and overflowing, the regular meridians can no longer restrain them. Since they are not restricted to the twelve regular meridians, where do these extraordinary vessels originate and continue? See the following text for details.
Du Mai (Governor Vessel) originates from Xiaji (Changqiang, Du 1), ascends within the spinal column to Fengfu (Du 16), passes through the brain, forehead, and nose, entering and intersecting [missing character, usually implying connection to the head/brain], serving as the general outline of the Sea of Yang Vessels. Ren Mai (Conception Vessel) originates below Zhongji (Ren 3), runs parallel with the Kidney Meridian of Foot-Shaoyin. Ren Mai and Du Mai both originate from Huiyin (Ren 1); these three vessels start together but diverge in their paths. Yang Qiao Mai originates from the bottom of the heel, follows the lateral malleolus upward into Fengchi (GB 20). Yin Qiao Mai follows the medial malleolus upward through the throat; it is originally a branch of the Yin and Yang vessels. All Yin vessels converge at Yin Wei Mai, originating from Zhubin (KI 9) of the Foot-Shaoyin Kidney Meridian. All Yang vessels converge at Yang Wei Mai, with Jinmen (BL 63) of the Foot-Taiyang Bladder Meridian as its starting point. Dai Mai (Girdle Vessel) circles around the hypochondrium, converging at Weidao (GB 27) of the Foot-Shaoyang Gallbladder Meridian. These are the eight extraordinary vessels that maintain and regulate the regular meridians, ensuring normal circulation.
Gongsun (SP 4) belongs to Chong Mai (Penetrating Vessel), treating diseases of the Stomach, Heart, and Chest; Neiguan (PC 6) belongs to Yin Wei Mai, sharing similar lower functions. Linqi (GB 41) belongs to the Gallbladder Meridian, connecting with Dai Mai; Yang Wei Mai meets Waiguan (TE 5) at the outer canthus. Houxi (SI 3) belongs to Du Mai, affecting the neck; Shenmai (BL 62) belongs to Yang Qiao Mai, with collaterals also connecting. Lieque (LU 7) belongs to Ren Mai, acting on the Lung system; Zhaohai (KI 6) of Yin Qiao Mai treats disorders of the diaphragm and throat.
Qian trigram corresponds to Gongsun, Gen trigram to Neiguan, Xun trigram corresponds to Zhen position Waiguan. Li trigram is at Lieque, Kun trigram corresponds to Zhaohai, Houxi is between Dui and Kan trigrams' Shenmai (Note: The Bagua-acupoint correspondence here is complex and textual variations exist). Tonification and sedation techniques distinguish reversal and compliance through floating and sinking depths; grasping the timing with respiration is not difficult. This is the ancestral secret divine needle method; myriad diseases are cured as easily as picking something up.
