Fifteen walnuts are placed in a clay pot, soaked with water to a depth of one finger's width above the walnuts, boiled four or five times, and the decoction is taken for drinking.
When dysphagia (difficulty in swallowing) has just recovered, food intake should not be increased abruptly. One must first consume rice gruel for one or two days, then light thin porridge for another one or two days, followed by thick porridge for one or two days. Each meal should be limited to one small bowl. Only after seven days can solid rice be eaten. Each meal should not exceed one small bowl, gradually increasing over time. One must absolutely avoid eating until full, because the stomach qi has just recovered; sudden overeating will damage the stomach qi, which would be incurable. Even if the patient desires to eat, their wishes should be accommodated, but salt and soy sauce must be avoided for fifty days after recovery. It is still advisable to consult a renowned physician for regulation.
For patients suffering from vomiting, the aforementioned formulas for treating dysphagia can be used universally.
Take a large piece of fresh ginger, slice it straight into thin slices without cutting through, sprinkle salt between each layer, tie it tightly with cotton thread, wrap it in seven layers of coarse straw paper, wet it with water, and slow-roast it until cooked. Remove, mash it, and decoct it with rice. Vomiting will stop immediately.
Another formula: One cup of fresh ginger juice (boiled and kept ready), four taels of honey (refined and kept ready). For each dose, take one spoonful of ginger juice and two spoonfuls of honey, taken with plain warm water.
Another formula: Eight fen of pepper, one pill of yeast medicine (ground into powder), five green onion heads, mashed together. If there is heat, stir-fry with tea; if no heat, stir-fry with wine. Apply to the epigastrium.
Another formula: Take half of a very large Fructus Aurantii (Zhiqiao), removing the inner pulp. Place six or seven fen of true Asafoetida (Wei) and twelve kernels of Apricot Seed (Xingren) (skin and tip removed), pound them into a paste, put them inside the Zhiqiao shell, close the two halves, wrap well with cotton paper, tie tightly with thread, and boil in boiling water over high heat for half a day. Remove, discard the internal medicine, dry the shell by baking, grind it into powder, and take it with liquor. Severe cases may recover in no more than two doses.
Another formula: Mix half a wine glass of aged fermented glutinous rice wine (strained of dregs) with half a wine glass of good soy sauce, mix evenly, and take warm. Vomiting will stop, and appetite will return.
Another formula: Make pills the size of beans using aged calcined iron oxide (Chenduan) (stir-fried and ground) and good vinegar. Take seven pills per dose with ginger soup. Recovery occurs within three days.
Another formula: Steam dried persimmon cakes mixed with dry rice until cooked, and eat continuously for eight days. Do not drink a single drop of water. Extremely severe cases will surely recover within eight days. This method has been tested repeatedly with consistent success and is infallible.
Another formula: Take two lotus roots, shade-dry them for three or four days, remove the head sections (two or three segments), and eat only the tip segment alone. Swallow both the juice and the residue. Consume one segment per day, finishing in two days, and recovery ensues.
Another formula: Squeeze one sheng of sugarcane juice, add two he of fresh ginger juice, warm it, and divide into five doses. This is highly effective.
Another formula: Squeeze several bowls of sugarcane juice, add dried Citron (Xiangyuan) and boil until soft, then add four taels of white sugar, mash and mix thoroughly. Take at any time. For extremely severe regurgitation caused by long-standing food stagnation, recovery occurs in three or four doses.
Another formula: Every morning, mix half a bowl of boiling water with half a bowl of cold water and drink. Long-term consumption can eliminate the root cause.
Another formula: Take a large piece of old ginger, make a hole, insert one red date (pitted), place one cardamom seed inside the date, wrap externally with yellow mud, and roast thoroughly. Discard the mud, ginger, and date, and chew only the cardamom. Eat a few seeds at a time; recovery occurs in a few doses, with excellent effect. Alternatively, decoct ginger, red date, and cardamom in water and drink; this is also effective. Most suitable for stomach cold.
Another formula: Grind one liang of earthworm feces, three qian of Costus Root (Muxiang), and seven qian of Rhubarb (Dahuang) into powder. Take five qian per dose, mixed with unrooted water. Avoid fried foods, alcohol, vinegar, pepper, and ginger (hot natured foods). Recovery occurs in one or two doses, with miraculous efficacy. Most suitable for vomiting and diarrhea caused by heat.
