Grind them all into powder, and take with Chen Mi Tang (aged rice decoction).
Ancestral prescription for treating Li Ji (Dysentery): Regardless of whether it is Chi Li (bloody dysentery) or Bai Li (mucoid dysentery), use only Bao He Wan (Preserve Harmony Pill) to harmonize with Xiang Lian Wan (Fragrant Coptis Pill).
For cases where Li Ji has persisted for a long time, accompanied by severe fever and unrelenting thirst, it is incurable.
For cases where Li Ji has persisted for a long time, with six pulses being surging and rapid, face red, and body hot, it is incurable.
For cases where Li Ji has persisted for a long time, with incessant thirst, it is incurable.
For cases where Li Ji has persisted for a long time, with vomiting and inability to eat, and ineffective medication, it is incurable.
For cases where Li Ji persists without stopping, passing purple blood clots, it is incurable.
For cases where Li Ji has persisted for a long time, passing black water resembling dust-laden rainwater from a leaking roof, it is incurable.
For cases where Li Ji has persisted for a long time, with extreme emaciation and wasting of muscles, it is incurable.
For cases where Li Ji has persisted for a long time, with rectal prolapse extending more than one cun, it is incurable.
For cases where Li Ji has persisted for a long time, transforming into convulsions and tremors, it is incurable.
If Li Ji transforms into Xie Xie (Diarrhea) but dietary intake remains normal, it is easy to treat.
Xi Jiang Yue (Tune):
Li Ji was anciently known as "Zhi Xia" (Stagnant Downward Flow), caused by food stagnation mixed with damp-heat. Intestinal rumbling and abdominal pain cause restlessness; there is tenesmus (urgent need to defecate with little result) and no relief. Chi Li (bloody stool) results from excessive fire in the Small Intestine; Bai Li (mucous stool) transmits from pathogenic factors in the Large Intestine. Ignorant physicians mistake Bai Li for cold, recklessly administering pungent-warm pills and powders.
There is no method beyond two for treating Li Ji; this secret passed down from He Jian (Liu Wansu) is excellent. Regulating Qi and moving Blood is a divine technique, ensuring complete recovery without deviation. When Qi moves, tenesmus stops naturally; when Blood harmonizes, dysentery settles. Avoid pungent-sweet warm substances; use cold-bland and leaching methods. Do not fear if the disease has lasted many years.
For initial stages of Li Ji, first use purgatives: Huang Lian (Coptidis Rhizome), Zhi Shi (Aurantii Fructus Immaturus), Bing Lang (Areca Seed), add plenty of Da Huang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma) steamed with wine, or use San Huang Tui Dang (Three Yellows Pushing Purge). If the patient is deficient, avoid this method; instead, analyze carefully using Xiao Dao (Digestion-promoting) methods. Bao He Wan is an immortal formula; simply ensure accurate diagnosis.
After purgation removes the pathogen and tenesmus ceases, further distinguish between Chi and Bai: For Chi Li, Jian Hong Fang (Cut Red Formula) is unsurpassed; for Bai Li, Gu Chang (Solidify Intestine) is steady. If Chi and Bai are mixed and unhealed, Xiang Lian Wan is highly effective, bringing fame to skilled practitioners in the countryside.
If encountering epidemic Li Ji (Shi Xing Li Ji), affecting everyone uniformly, with headache and body pain causing sighs, beware of the epidemic pestilence Qi. First use Ren Shen Bai Du San (Ginseng Detoxifying Powder), then use Cheng Qi Tang (Order the Qi Decoction) to push out stagnation. Then observe the pulse to adjust加减 (additions and subtractions), distinguishing clearly between deficiency and excess to regulate.
If previous methods fail for chronic Li Ji, with Qi sinking and intestinal slipping continuing urgently, quickly administer cold medicines combined with lifting agents; combining astringents is very stable. Use Ren Shen (Ginseng), Bai Zhu (Atractylodes), Sheng Ma (Cimicifugae Rhizome), Dang Gui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Bai Shao (Paeoniae Radix Alba), Wu Mei (Mume Fruit), Su Ke (Poppy Shell), Huang Lian (Coptis), Huang Qin (Scutellariae Radix), Gan Jiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma), He Zi (Terminalia Chebulae Fructus), Chi Fu Ling (Red Poria), using Jing Mi (Oryza Sativa Germ) and Chen Pi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium) as guides.
Remember the herbs for Li Ji: To detoxify, use Zhi Zi (Gardeniae Fructus), Huang Qin, Huang Lian; Da Huang and Mang Xiao (Natrii Sulfas) can push out the old; Mu Xiang (Aucklandiae Radix) and Chen Pi settle pain; Bing Lang and Zhi Ke (Aurantii Fructus) relieve tenesmus; Sheng Ma and Chai Hu (Bupleuri Radix) lift Qi; Gu Chang (Solidify Intestine) uses Su Ke, He Zi, Wu Mei; Ze Xie (Alismatis Rhizoma) and Zhu Ling (Polyporus) smooth water flow.
Several symptoms of incurable Li Ji: If the pulse is surging and large, beware; if mouth-closed (Jin Kou) preventing eating and vomiting fluids occur; severe fever, vexation, thirst, and abdominal distension; anus flaccid (Po Hu point area relaxed or anal incontinence); feces like black dust or claw fragments; red face, red lips, sunken eye sockets, rapid breathing, and mental confusion indicate critical danger.
In children, rectal prolapse occurs due to deep-seated diarrhea/dysentery; Qi deficiency causes sinking unable to rise, mixing cold and heat indistinguishably. Tenesmus makes defecation difficult; excessive straining damages Shen (Spirit), causing the anus to protrude and be invaded by cold, preventing retraction.
To recognize the treatment for rectal prolapse, nourishing Blood and harmonizing Qi is appropriate: Chuan Xiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma), Bai Zhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix), Dang Gui, Bai Shao, Ren Shen, Chi Shi Zhi (Halloysit Rubrum). Huai Zi (Sophorae Tonkinensis Seed), Shan Yao, Lian Rou (Lotus Seed Endocarp), Long Gu (Fossilia Ossis Mastodi et Scapulae), Wu Bei Zi (Galla Chinensis) follow. Grind Wu Bei Zi finely into pills, still taken with rice water.
Internal decoctions and pills achieve efficacy; external remedies support: Dust from inverted walls on beams, ash from calcined turtle heads ground fine, mouse feces mixed with mugwort moxa, ignited in a bucket. Sit above it to fumigate; within moments, the anus retracts.
If previous methods fail, crush fresh Snail (Tian Luo) into paste, mix with Po Xiao (Mirabilite) and Da Huang, pound into ointment and apply; it heals immediately. If still ineffective, use topical application: Xiong Dan (Ursi Bile) and Bing Pian (Borneolum Syntheticum) are recommended; Goose bile applied heals the disease. Physicians must remember this well.
Dao Qi (Guide Qi) with Fu Ling, Huang Lian, and Mu Xiang; Da Huang, Dang Gui, Bai Shao, Su Ke, Bing Lang. When dysenteric pus and blood flow endlessly, guarantee one dose brings health.
